We live in a world of seemingly endless sitting positions. We design our homes with our butts foremost in our minds. People are often shocked to find how big their seat to person ratio is at home.

Post how many seats are in your home and the seat to person ratio (seats per people living at your home). Seats include chairs, couches, outside benches, stools, beanbags and lounges. They dont include Beds. If you have a 4 seater couch then that counts as 4 seats.

I have 52 seats at home giving me a seat to person ratio of around 12.33.

Why? I have no idea. It feels like madness.

I am 3:1. Unless you include the throne which bumps it up to 5:1. Although I only use one of them for #2, so 4:1

Where do we sit (lol) on things like footstools which aren't intended as a seat but are sat on on occasion. I have one of those.

Foot stools can count if their primary purpose is sitting. If its for foot resting then no.

3-1 ratio is pretty low. You have done well. I could learn from you.

You should put in a bid to host a Gold Coast game.

I’m over to 4:1 before I even count the beanbag.

I choose a decadent life, moving from room to room just to use a different seat.

1 (5 seater) couch + 2 chairs at dining table. = 7:1

Ppl told me to get 4 for the latter but yeah nah- just takes up extra room for something i barely use as i eat in front of the TV usually. I've had ppl over for dinner, have organised to get extra chairs its not that big a drama.

8:1 here.

If you were to reduce though what do you do when you have visitors.

"Can I bring anything"

"BYO seat or your girlfriend will have to sit on my lap"
We need a seat version of uber. We think 1 car per adult is wasteful but we currently live in a society of atleast 4 seats per person if not higher. And that doesnt even count all the public and office seating.

12 to 1 in the house, plus 8 outdoor chairs. I live alone but have a large extended family. When they all come to my place at once just about all of them get used.

My ratio is deflated somewhat by my recent selling of a 5 seat lounge suite. I don't intend to replace it, but who knows what the future holds. The last few years I've waged war on crap, but I still feel like I have too much.

Selling crap on gumtree is an ordeal though. As is constant family visiting. Life is balance.

When I was married, we somehow ended up with 27 champagne flutes. But only 22 seats. The crap was suffocating.

3 seat couch, 2 arm chairs i was given and dont want, 2 seat couch I want to get rid of, 6 chair dining table. I live alone and eat where I primarily sit. Ridiculous now youve made me think about it but as someone said, not much you can do without it. Guests would liket sit also

Doesn't this just mean you've got a big house and would prefer not to shlep the seats around whenever you move to a different area?

But I’ve worked hard for my chairs and I should be free to have as many as i want.....

Interesting thought process OP.

Three seater couch in the loungeroom. One seater in back room/dining room. Another one seater in my gaming room. Computer chair in my missus' room. Six chairs for our dining table (quite a big one). Four chairs for our outdoor setting. One random plastic chair that was there when we moved into the house. 17 chairs for myself and my partner @ 8.5 per person. That amount seems reasonable given we use them all except the plastic chair that was there when we moved in.
