Too optimistic about the future?

Every time I read an article off the MFC website right now my first thought is the same...

"Are you guys high??"

It's his job to wear the rose colour glasses. Take from it what you will, he makes some decent points, but we are so far in the hole it's hard to fathom.

A bit too optimistic, yes but I prefer that to pessimism which is prevalent with every other media outlet. I'm tending to look at the bright side of life and am excited for our future.

I think supporters need both reality and hope

Honestly....I thought he gave a bit of both:

There’s no escaping that it’s been a dismal and tumultuous period for the Demons, on and off the field, for a whole host of reasons, but don’t be fooled into thinking that the list is a disaster.

Yes, it’s far from perfect, but a visualisation of the future shows that there is a nucleus of players, which can take the club into the future.

If you expect fair and balanced articles on a club site you're mad. It's their job to talk things up way past the bounds of credibility.

On the whole I'm expecting nothing but pain and suffering from this point on. I'll either be right or surprised.

The "24-27 years old from 2014-2017"... like many of us are not familiar with the concept of time.

couldn't really find an appropriate thread but I suppose this is reason to be optimistic.

Well the question is where do you esteemed ladies and gentlemen see Mitch Clarke next year or future barring injury of course.

I was thinking he would be best suited in the ruck because that's where he played his best footy, and with Hogan coming in you would have a three pronged forward line with Dawes, Hogan and Watts (not bad at all) throw in Howe and Davey and that's an impressive (yet full) forward line.

No agenda here guys just a footy fan who wouldn't mind hearing from some fellow supporters who are more invested in the dees than myself.

Omega: I'd like to see Mitch play in a position that will preserve his career the longest. Personally I fear for him re-injuring his foot on a high stress load playing 1st ruck.Mitch is definitely an imposing figure,
His attack on the ball is a great onfield example going forward; hence the reason why I want him on the park doing this week in and week out for the next few years. Ideal spot - FF with watts next to him - use jack as the lead up and Mitch to be more stay at home, with watts clearing deep forward leaving Mitch as the "over the head and one on one" option to the top of the square. only used as a second ruck once ruck number 1 goes down whoever that may be.

Agree with the above. Mitch Clark to stay FF (goal square) for at least one/two full seasons. Fear he is more likely to get injury if playing in the ruck. And we need him on the ground.
After 1 or 2 full seasons if injury free, then depending on Hogans development, move him to ruck.

thanks for the responses guys, where does this leave Dawes?

a forward line of

Davey Clarke Hogan
Watts Dawes Howe

Seems a little too tall.
I guess in the end its a good problem to have.

I would really like see Watts be in the centre for the bounce. I think he could use his height and skills to clear the ball out (even his 20m dash would be great to use as a defence / chase down).

I think it would be good to try.

Watts has just settled up forward. Lets use him as a forward.

I'd like to see Watts replace Mark Webber at redbull. He could use his reactions and ability to move in limited space to fix the poor starts they have been happening

If supporting Melbourne has taught me anything it's that any optimism is too much optimism

trust me I can relate, were staring down the barrel at a complete rebuild with our highest ladder ranking in the last 13 years being 5th

Yeah but chances are Neeld would get a gig as team manager and the wheels would fall off.

The wheels wouldn't fall off, Watts would amble around the track in 2nd gear.

He's not a good clearance player nor does he stand up well in a tackle or stick tackles
Do not put him forward

Your list is no worse then Richmonds in 2009. However, board changes must be made and poaching better coaches is a good way to start.
