enjoyed them in high school.
but they got boring. or my taste changed. prob both
maybe it's the lack of humour.
or when there is humour (Puscifer) it's not funny.

I saw them at the Myer Music Bowl early this year and at Alternative Nation in '95. A damn great live band. and I still listen to Aenima at least once every couple of weeks.

Hear they're awesome live, one of the only bands I regret not seeing live, yet anyway:D:thumbsu:

Saw them at The BDO earlier this year and was happy that after listening to them since I was younger that I finally got to see them live. My brother was obsessed with them for years, Danny Carey was his idol for a long time.

One thing I always wondered, Maynards on stage demeanour with Tool - as in standing at the back of the stage and not getting very chummy with the crowd, does he do this with APC and his other bands?

Not that it seems. Tends to dress up as a hillbilly for puscifer. Its the fun side/less serious side project. Pretty crap but the new album has some catchy songs.

Tool takes so long for albums as it has to benefit him as in lyrics wise, well something along those lines and I guess its becoming less of a priority now with wine making and puscifer.

Both Tool and APC he sings at the back, and only interacts with the crowd occasionally. That said, I thought at the recent BDO shows he was more interactive then he has been for a number of years.

Puscifer he tends to be a little more up front, I suspect that's because Puscifer is really just Maynard's solo project, as opposed to being part of a band as such.

saw them twice on the back of the lateralus release and both shows rank in my top 10 of all time
great band with a lot of dedication to their craft.

Adam Jones is one of the great modern guitar players too, up there with Matt Bellamy, Jeff Martin and Adam Nutter (The Music) for riffs.

Find it hard to pick between Aenema and Lateralus. First has a lot of solid tracks and some of their best work (Pushit, Forty-Six and Two, Eulogy), the other is an epic end to end work.

I'd have Aenema over all, but I actually took a good liking to 10,000 days. I like the 10,000 days track and Vicarious as well as The Pot.

I'm amazed hellboy that you thought he was interacting with the crowd at the BDO, at Melbourne all I could recall was the band coming out, playing and he said thank you after the last song and left before the rest of the band took a bow.

Aenima and Lateralus are incredible albums, among my favourites.

All their other stuff is fairly hit and miss.

Definitely not underrated though.

I was totally bang on.

I've always liked Tool but I find so many aspects of this band to be incredibly childish. Maynard is just so corny and uninteresting and all the imagery through their albums, merchandise and videos is laughably lame. You can see why so many 15 year old kids are so into them. So brooding.

I still rate Lateralus as the better album. I love the way it flows, particularly through the middle-section of the album.

Aenima probably has the better individual songs though in Pushit, Third Eye and the title track.

Reckon Pushit is my favourite Tool track nowadays.

Undertow is very underrated I reckon, almost prefer it to Lateralus. Aenima is still no.1 however.

That said, not anywhere as big a fan as I was 4-5 years ago, more a once in a blue moon listen rather than a daily listen nowadays.

Same here. Loved them in my teen/young adult years (at the time a couple of their albums were in my top 10 favourites), but only listen to them once in a blue moon nowadays. Also no where near as much of a fan as I once was 5-10 years ago, and agree that some of their work is slightly childish in a 90s way.

I still really enjoy Aenima & Undertow (for the most part). Agree that Pushit is a great track. Both those albums are between 50-100 on my all-time favourites list.

Lateralus and 10000 Days I seldom ever listen too nowadays. Still excellent albums, but not albums that have stuck with me over the years like their 90s work.

Yeah Pushit is a great track.

When I first listened to Aenima I only listened to the first five tracks because it had all that weird shit after that with "Message to Harry Manback" and "Intermission" but then eventually I started to listen to the rest of the album and realised there were other tracks just as awesome or better than the first five.

Jimmy is an incredible track too.

People pigeonhole Tool as just heavy metal but they're so much more than that, they're spiritual and once you get hooked on their music it becomes part of your DNA and you can't quit them.

They allude to it in this video.

don't have a top 5, 10 or 15. there's too many great tracks. AEnima, 10000 days, lateralus, undertow is probably the order in album's for me. opiate is also a great EP.

Need a new album....
they're blaming some court case with their former insurance company for not doing anything the last 5 years. that's the last i've heard from them. bit of a lame excuse i reckon. apparently draining creative energy.

Love Lateralus production and pained yet hopeful lyrics and it's clear best for mine, but I won't bother with another album if it comes out.. They seem to know they've covered everything too
