Just wondering what you guys thought of the Fox Sports/Afl idea to countdown the top 10 in tomrows draft. It will be prerecorded. For mine, i think its crap.

If you dont like it, how are you going to watch/listen to the draft. SEN? Cope with Fxotel? Combination?

Im actualy not going to complain....there will now be two points of interest/anticipation for us......10-6 and then a break and pick 11 and 12.

I don't like it. Much prefer the traditional format of starting at No.1, and just going through the order from there. Still, i'll be tuning into Foxtel to watch the telecast.

it's pretty ****ing stupid. as HBF said, ill still watch it though. they're trying to model it on the NBA aren't they? but isn't the difference there that you dont know who gets pick 1? whereas there's no suspense here because everybody knows who has the picks and who they are most likely to take.

Also will SEN announce the top 10 normally or do they have to do it backwards like Fox?

No its different from the NBA. NBA starts from pick 1 which is the marquee pick of the night, and yes they usually know who is going to be first up there too.

There'll be anticipation either way. This way it'll be right from the start, then get predictable from pick 5 to 1, then get exciting again.

Silly idea. After pick 5 is called I reckon there will be zero suspense compared to climbing up the order and watching it unfold in natural sequence that would actually build more tension.

The only added interest in the idea will be if someone like Martin goes at 5-6 everyone will will be wondering for the next couple of picks who went in his place. Even before it is called though it will still be obvious who it was. Still if you look at Rich last year it would still more interesting watching club after club pass on him and wondering who the hell was going to bite the bullet. Could you imagine it if he was the fourth name called out at pick 7. It's obvious to me which method has a better capacity to build suspense.

The actual night is being broadcast from 10 to 1. So listening to SEN will still mean that you hear the names from 10 to 1.

And yes it's a horrible idea.

Waste of time.

It kills all the suspense attached to the player West Coast draft with pick.

I love seeing the dumb clubs taken aback and having to shuffle the papers once their player was taken.

Even though we would have run through all possible outcomes and would be well organised, at least it gives Carlton and Melbourne more thinking time for picks 11 and 12 if the players are hard to split.

Having said that, the AFL are that stupid, they will probably have the clubs with picks one to ten take their picks with Carlton, Adelaide, Sydney, the Dogs, etc. locked out of the room and out of the loop.

I like the idea of stepping up to the podium and announcing the pick, there's no need for reverse order though.

What I'd like to see is the trading of future and current draft picks allowed for trade week and the day of the draft. It's probably a bit too far adding player trades on the day of the draft, but it's always the most interesting bit of the NBA draft to see who will mortgage their future by trading future draft picks in order to add another draft pick or move up the order to get a player they desperately want.
