At the start of the year a pencilled in the top 7 backs being as follows:

Cornes
Shaw
Milburn
Goddard
Burgoyne
Bowden
Birchall/Waters/Mackie

On reassessment if I were to choose 7 backs now I would have:

Cornes (ignoring the niggling injury)
Shaw
Goddard
Milburn
Newman
Burgoyne
Bowden/Mackie/Birchall

Despite what their form suggests I feel inclined to avoid:

Bock
King
Johncock
Mcmahon
Wheatley
Macdonald

I went for a different backline strategy this year, which has reaped great dividends for myself.
I decided that it was pointless spending 300k on a gilbee or sort who'd probebly get 70odd a week.

So I got Shaw, Cornes, and King which was very cheap. I then filled the rest out with Bradshaw, Ibbotson, Moore (syd) and Brown, which were players that I thought would get a lot of game time. I decided i'd rather drop the 40pts per person or so from that line up, and have 600k to invest across the board on forwards and midfielders.

As it turned out, these 4 players above (with the exception of Brown who i've now traded for Johncock) have done almost as well as guys like McLoed.

I've spent more now on midfields, and have a super team that has kept me in the eliminator, and top 300!

Hey everybody

Current Backline:

Cornes
Shaw
Bowden
Milburn
Fisher
McLeod
Myers

SDT
Selwood

I want to upgrade the 7th spot... Who should it be?

Cost is a factor but not make or break...

Cheers in advance!

Since your reserves suck ass I would go someone that is pretty durable. Birchall will be cheap as chips in a few weeks.

Not going to be a top back but picked him up at the start of the season as an iffy and has performed solidly, R.Ladson with an avg. of 75+:thumbsu:

Must be ranked top 100 by that team you have i mean the others you have a simply guns aswell. I was close to putting Deledio in my top 7 his last 3 -5 weeks have been awesome. Plus he is a dtm gun he tackles, marks, goals and gets plenty of it.

I wish my mids were 6 of any of these
Cross
Corey
Bartel
Ablett
S.Thompson
M.Murphy
Priddis
Swan
K.Cornes

all such superstar dtmers

Cheers... I'm ranked 25 at the moment, and team is coming along together nicely. Just noticed that Ibbotson has the worst average of any of my players with 74. Pretty happy with that!

Drummond is one of the best DT backs going around but he's just way too injury prone to have in your team. Also after briefly reading over these posts i'm surprised that everyones (from what i saw) failed to mention Joel McDonald as a top back??

He's played every game this year and averaged a handy 83 (better than the likes of Goddard and Johncock). While he's obviously not as good a football player we are talking DT here. So I would throw him into the top 7.

I think Mackie has a big chance to take over from Chad Cornes as the top back. King is being relegated to tagging roles and Peter Burgoyne hasn't been doing enough lately.

i think i might go newman because i think he is the most consistent...never gets tagged...plays in the midfield...and i the moment consistency is what i need

I think Drummond will be in the top 3 backs for the rest of the year (if he stays fit). At 310k, could be a great pickup if you are willing to take a risk.

EDIT: 315k
