Well we know that 4th is out of the question in reality.

If you're correct about finishing 5th and then winning puts us on the opposite side of St Kilda, then that's what I want.
IMO we are capable of beating all of the others when we put our act together.

Finishing 5th and avoiding St Kilda depends on whether Sts win their first final. If they lose they would be our 2nd final assuming we win our first. Either way the 2nd week would be tough against WB or Collingwood away.

Summary - Crows lost 4th spot through inaccurate kicking in the geelong and pies games. Self fail

Well the Dogs winning was a bummer .. luck never falls our way in those kind of situations. Who would've thought they would beat the Lions in Brisbane and Geelong in consecutive weeks after losing to WCE at home? Not me that's for sure.

As most people have said really just need to finish off the season strongly, win the last 2 games and have a home EF against Essendon. Would be a waste of a season if we were to drop one or both games and end up playing Brisbane in Brisbane :o

I want you to go through our last four years finals history before you post something like that.

No AFC supporter has any reason to be cocky in the month of September, I will be wrapped if we win one finals game, so lets do that before we start coming and saying this team or that team is going to be a 'walk in the park' the AFC have a massive hurdle to get over first and that is to win in September.

Correct weight, all clear. Wave the flags umpire and put down your glasses.

It seems that way but we shouldnt be relying on other teams to lose... I put a lot of this down to our lack of ability to win close games and put teams away when we have had the chance over the last few years. We need to learn how to play 4 quarters.

Not quite correct, we had our chances in the Bulldogs game here, Brisbane game and the first Showdown.

However, most seem to miss the point this is still the first of our development years, and everything should be put into perspective.

Yeah, but the development to a degree has halted and we have fallen back into old habits.

Ever since 1998 we have had no luck go our way.

2005, Roo's brain fade against West Coast where he got suspended, Bock's injury

2006 Hentschel's knee, Roo getting Pavo virus. Sydney upsetting West Coast at Subiaco and putting them on our side of the draw and Biglands doing his knee just before half time in the prelim

2007 Thommo's kick going too far and going out of bounds on the full with seconds left and Buddy kicking a goal from the boundary line to win the game

2008 St Kilda winning by about 130 points To steal a top four spot from us.

If Collingwood win next week we might be lamenting some of those disgusting umpiring decisions in the Geelong which cost us the game and a spot in the top four.

I don't think it's our finals record as such that we need to fix, what we need to fix is beating the top teams, as we aren't doing this in the home and away round either.
The most annoying thing is not that we don't beat the top sides, but rather the way we lose to them after having a comfortable lead at some stage during the match. Seriously, does any side cough up a lead as often as we do?

Finals:
2006 PF vs West Coast
2007 EF vs Hawthorn
2008 EF vs Collingwood

This H&A season:
Round 8 vs Brisbane
Round 18 vs Geelong
Round 19 vs Collingwood

The fact is we've lost our last 3 finals after having a handy lead in the middle stages of the game. Hopefully with more experience, our 24 y.o. and under players can stand up and be counted in the pressure games. We really should have beaten Geelong in round 18 especially considering similarly placed sides in Footscray, Brisbane and Carlton have been beating them. The umps destroyed us that day, so I vote we lay the blame on that balding, snivelling little pansy Scott McLaren for us not making the top 4.

meh who cares.

as long as we put in a finals campaign that doesn't disgrace ourselves us, it will be a step forward. I'd love to see our team perform a little over their heads for once in a big game.

if we can just take something positive out of this finals campaign for next year, i'll be happy with that.

50 point loss for Bulldogs and 100 point win for us against Carlton required for top 4.

So I've just done some sums.

Let's say we beat Carlton 125 to 60, and Bulldogs lose to Collingwood 125 to 60. Then we'll sneak into 4th spot.

Edit: Whoops, had the wrong numbers :o

If both Adelaide and Collingwood win by 11+ goals, we go top 4.

Meanwhile if Collingwood win, say, 100 to 60, we'd need to win by about 15 goals.

There is also the chance that Sydney and the Bulldogs smash Collingwood.

Really though I don't know why I am even bothering with this thread.

So what you're all saying is that top 4 is gone....

No way those results will happen. Lets go for 5th and stay opposite side to the Saints

A mod should change the thread title... need to remove the ? marks!

It would be poetic justive for us to get it though after last year!

But then again if we lose next week and we are likely to head up to Brisbane to play the Lions in week 1 of the finals and have a very good chance to lose that one. But if Port can cause a massive upset tonight that seals a home final for us.

Anything can happen so next week is a must win.
