Adelaide
If we beat Essendon by at least five goals or so* on Friday night, we'll move to top spot on the AFL ladder. :D

Of course its a long shot that we'd remain there for the entire weekend. We'd require Carlton to beat West Coast at Subiaco, Hawthorn to beat Brisbane at the Gabba and the Bulldogs to beat Port Adelaide.

In the unlikely event that that does happen though it would be a great time to have top spot bragging rights; the end of round 15 marks the point where each team has played each other once.

I think the last time Adelaide was on top of the ladder at the end of any round was round 19 1997.

Anyway I'll be satisfied with sitting on top for the best part of the 24 hours from Friday night onwards. :p

* Just doing the calculations, in order to overtake Port's current percentage...
if Essendon scores 50, we need 73 or more
if Essendon scores 100, we need 137 or more
So its about a 4-6 goal margin required depending on how high scoring the match is.

As I have said on the other thread, this weekend's results really went in our favour. We are the only top 4 side to win this weekend. 1 game behind Port and only half a game behind Eagles and Lions.

Personally I think the best we can hope to finish at the end of 22 rounds is 2nd which would give us a home final. Port will get the top spot IMHO. So if we win 1st week of the finals and Port loose, we earn the right to host Preliminary final where we could well face Port.;)

Just wondering....

If it is a Port, Crows 1-2 at the end of the minor round will the AFL let there be two home finals on the same weekend.
Obviously If Port are top they will play on the Friday night and the Crows the saturday night.
Footy park could be under seige with a Showdown the week before and be guaranteed 3 home finals straight after or maybe 4 if one of the teams lose in the first week. Thats nearly half the finals series in South Australia.

AFL said they will play both at Footy Park. I think in their finals fixture that AFL released, there will only be one game on the MCG in the 1st round and the lowest ranked team (6th ) will play there.;)

All that would happen is one would be played Saturday night and the other Sunday.

So the AFL are saying the higher ranked team is the more important.
So if we finish top your final will be 2nd rate to our first rate final.
:)

Spot on, Stiffy. If Port lost the first week we would definitely play them in the third (providing they got thru the second), remember the cross over.

But lets see what pans out. The AFL must be creaming themselves with the potential for blockbuster crowds for the remaining 8 weeks. The 8 might be settled in the next 3 weeks though given Essendon plays Adelaide (A) then Brisbane (H) and Melbourne (A) whilst Hawthorn plays Brisbane (A), Melbourne (H)and West Coast (A). Roos have Melbourne, St kilda and Geelong, which would probably seal their position. Collingwood I believe are there (Freo, Richmond and Carlton). The rest are gone. It will probably take only 11 wins to make it.

It will interesting to see the crowd numbers both both games but then again we wouldn't need to worry about that now would we.

The layout of 1 v 4 etc etc, doesn't that get scheduled in the last sunday of the minor round? I think it's this way for ratings for certain channels, so I guess if both SA teams hosted a final, the one against the Vic team would be in a high rating timeslot like a Friday, against Brisbane or Sydney it would be a Sunday afternoon and if against a West Australian team it would be on a saturday night. Nine gets two games and ten gets two games right? I bet Eddie and channel 9 though try and have the two vic teams on the saturday and saturday night live on 9, which is probably going to be a Collingwood home game and Essendon away game if the interstate sides go 1-6.

Both Adelaide sides would get at least a 6 day break so therefore would play either Saturday or Sunday. Collingwood if they host a home final would probably get Friday night given they play Round 22 on a Friday night.

PS : I thought only Channel 10 has the rights to the finals. (I remember 10 covering Adelaide games last year and all were on a Saturday or Saturday night)

There is only one minor point that you missed out on. Channel 9 doesn't have rights to broadcast finals. Channel 10 and foxtel do the finals so I don't think ratings will have too much to do with match scheduling, it will be more to do with crowd numbers.

For the next showdown we might take some liquid nails with us and after the game we can stick it to our seats and when you guys go on the next friday night you can get stuck in the seats making the crowd for the more important final the next day all that bit bigger.
But probaly our best bet would be to take a rug and a loaf of bread and just hang out for 160 hours until the week after.

I think your right, I'll probably have to watch the replay listening to ****ers like Grybas and Walls.

You had me worried Dave when I read the title, as I though it may be another POS type thread. ;) Still a long way to go, but if we are good enough, we can put ourselves in a decent position to have a crack at the flag.

I probably don't take the same view as other posters might, but I don't see being first at the end of the minor round as a priority. Being on top after R22 doesn't guarantee success in the finals series, even if you do have a home ground advantage, as we have previously seen before.

Even though it's best to finish as high as possible, I personally feel that its even more important to have the belief and confidence to beat any team anywhere, because if we are good enough (and I think with our full strength side, we are) it doesn't matter who we play where.

The flag is the number 1 priority and being minor premiers doesn't mean we will win the flag, therefore I don't see being minor premiers as vitally important. It would be nice, no doubt, but it doesn't really take the big picture into account, I believe.

lets do a deal

we'll beat the crap out of port in two weeks to get adelaide second and your team keeps Lloyd goaless to let lynchy catch up on the goal kicking ladder

Would be a lot better if you beat the crap out of each other ;)

& if we can keep Lloyd to below 3 goals then that would be bloody great as he always has kicked a bag full against us,

As I said last week ONLY focus on what teams are infront of us,we had the results fall our way this w/e and it is now VERY tight at the top, any slip ups at this time of the year from any of the top four sides will will favour other teams in the top eight:D :D

Our tough road trips in rounds 19,20 are now starting to look very crucial that we win both if we want a top 2 position and garrenteed home finals;) ;)

In it's in our boys hands now they can make easy for themselves or if they played footy like they did on Saturday night they can make it hard, upto them, but I think we all know we are a better side than what we seen on the w/e;)

Im with you crowsfan.
In fact, depending on how things pan out, the AFC may even throw the last game just to finish fifth.

Not unless our players and coaching staff are completely devoid of brain cells.

Explain to me the logic of opting for an elimination final instead of a double chance?
