If we beat Essendon by at least five goals or so* on Friday night, we'll move to top spot on the AFL ladder.
Of course its a long shot that we'd remain there for the entire weekend. We'd require Carlton to beat West Coast at Subiaco, Hawthorn to beat Brisbane at the Gabba and the Bulldogs to beat Port Adelaide.
In the unlikely event that that does happen though it would be a great time to have top spot bragging rights; the end of round 15 marks the point where each team has played each other once.
I think the last time Adelaide was on top of the ladder at the end of any round was round 19 1997.
Anyway I'll be satisfied with sitting on top for the best part of the 24 hours from Friday night onwards.
* Just doing the calculations, in order to overtake Port's current percentage...
if Essendon scores 50, we need 73 or more
if Essendon scores 100, we need 137 or more
So its about a 4-6 goal margin required depending on how high scoring the match is.
