"Neil Cordy is reporting that Norwood captain and former Demon Alex Georgiou, Sam Baulderstone and former Bulldogs forward Matthew Panos have all been sounded out by the Bombers."

(Of course Baulderdstone has not been on an AFL list so would need some sort of exception)

With EFC restricted to players who have already been listed don't think "aspiring" is the best word to use.

It's either a failed actor looking to break back into the big time and get noticed again after being typed cast in B level movies.

Or someone retired from acting looking at breaking back into it

As said earlier can see a player who failed the first time taking the second chance, not so the retireed player.

If it's the AFL can they set their terms for the payment in order to play?

Say... $350,000 for the season.

Not a hands on manager. He'll set random benchmarks and review KPIs every month. Players bottom of the list get written up and sent back to the training room.

Likely EFC pay and arrange for accommodation. Can see a player who got delisted who thought they were not given a fair chance taking that risk. Not many people in thier 20s are on the equilivant of 100k a year plus bonus.

Don't think any big name retirees will go for it though.

If Essendon are paying for accommodation etc then that should be included under the TPP cap they are being given.

Another thing is that during the season, top up players who aren't selected for Essendon will most likely play Essendon VFL, unfairly making their reserves team very strong.

There should be a rule where players who aren't picked by Thursday have to play for their original club.

The top-up players will be playing during the season, but not for the Essendon VFL side.

Thats part of why the Herald-Sun "best 22" is so terrifying.

Yes, but if they sign 15-20 not all of them will play in the AFL team. Only about half a dozen or so. What happens to the rest?
