Okay I have an open wound that really hurts and only time will heal it.
However if Thommo hadn't kicked out on the full and if someone had only just filled that hole so that buddy couldn't get a clear run at the ball to mark it and if Buddy wasn't on fire then...

There would have been this thread.

Was a great goal on the run about 50 out and so much pressure on him to kick it. Was the second one he has done recently in the dying stages of a close game.

I was also trying to think of who could have stood Buddy in place of Massie and Torney was the only other player that I could think of.

Great goal Torney. It should have been the winner.

Totally agree.

I was right behind the goals in the forward pocket 5 rows back as the ball came in and cleared the guys on the line for a goal and I went ape and was jumping up and down and screaming deliriously. Thought we had pulled the game (that was rightly ours) out of the fire.

Then the ball went up the other end and all I remember is watching the clock tick over and screaming "ice it" over and over again. My, how the seconds go really slow in that type of situation.

Then I remember Crawf getting the ball on the wing (didn't know at that stage that Thommo had put it OOF) and all I did was shout "get on Buddy" over and over.

When he got it, even outside 50, I turned to my daughter and calmly said "we're dead". Hushed tones around me and, off the boot even from where I was, it was clear we were stuffed.

This was immediately followed by heaps of delirious Hawk supporters jumping up around me and I was left holding my head in my hands (like numerous other nearby Crows supporters) wondering why I even bother to turn up to have my heart wrenched like this (yes, I was also there in the 1993 Prelim).

Anyway, stayed to clap Roo off the ground (the team went down the race near us) and we left to catch the train home.

Will I be there next year?...you bet your sweet cabootie I will.

Bring on 2008.

was just thinking the same thing

he had a couple of hawk bearing down on him too, and for him to cooly and calmly ice that shot from 50 (and then seeing campbell brown cannon into the goal post, left testicle first so i thought) had me jumping out of my seat (nearly sending the young fella who i was giving a bottle at the time flying!! :D)

I couldn't believe he kicked that goal. But I always knew there was plenty of time left and I knew we would still find a way lose, especially in a game away from home.

Loved the way Campbell Brown smashed into the goalpost and injured in what looked to be the medial ligament in his right knee.

Was a great goal. Deserved to be the winner. Went absolutely crazy at the time. Only to be absolutely gutted a few minutes later. I couldn't actually watch Buddy's kick, nor Rougheads just before it.

Amazing goal, and was a great feeling watching it! Saying that though, when he kicked it I knew there was still enough time for the Hawks to score a goal, so I was never confident it would be the winner. Great goal nonetheless!

Was right in front of me and I know he heard me from the back of level 2 yelling ''kick it have a shot kick it shot goal kick' and watching it come off the boot and sailing sailing, I was that pumped I stopped yelling, I suddenly felt this rush of emotion come over me thinking we can do this

Great goal and deserves a greater appreciation

Super super goal :thumbsu: I can remember it as clear as day, was right near infront of where I was. At first it looked like it would fade to the left, but as everyone stood up it pulled to the right and went through for a goal. Amazing feeling when it went through, was so overjoyed I was almost in tears!

Super goal? Your kidding right?

Did anyone see the teammate running inside that he burned who he could have handballed too.

Lucky it went through. Nothing against Torney.

I bet you think Lloyd should have handballed forward as well?

He DID kick the goal , hence '' super goal''

Haha nope I'm not kidding ;) As someone said earlier in the thread, he had a Hawthorn player breathing down his neck and the game was in the balance. If that's not super I don't know what is

Sadly one of our few players who can kick a long goal. He has quite a big boot on him and I have seen him kick goals from 60 out, usually on the run though.

Who is actually the Crows longest kick anyway? I miss the Robran days when the crowd used to will him to have a shot from the centre square.

You have inspired me to upload this clip to youtube. Matthew Robran bombs one from the centre square...

But back OT, Torney's goal was super... I was behind the flight of the ball as it went through and I was just PRAYING that the Hawks players didn't touch it... the Hawks fans around me all were like "oh thats good its touched"... when the umpire signalled the goal i flew out of my chair. Never been so excited about a goal or play at the football. Fitting of a match winner:thumbsu:

It wasn't to be though...:(

NO!! We pass the ball off way too much. at AFL level if you have the ball within 50m you should be confident to have a shot.

If they start taking these shots they might just get better at them and actually be able to hit them when we take a mark up forward.

It wasn't the first time this year that Torney has goaled on the run from outside 50. When you are confident in yourself from that position you take the shot, and Torney once again succeeded. The fact that it was Torney gave me confidence that he would more than likely goal and not burn the ball ala Thompson or Burton in a similar position.

It was an outstanding goal. I went nuts when it went through!
It probably capped off the best season in Torney's career. I thought he was one of our most consistent and best players throughout the year. One thing with Torney is that you can never say he doesn't put his body on the line!

i was sitting level 3 front row and he was right in front of us when he kicked it... at first it looked like it was nowhere near it but it just kept swinging back...

i had 3 crows next to me and i then began to crap on about 93....

it was a great goal but it ruined browny's knee... (yeah he probably should've seen the post)

Fantastic goal - must admit i thought we were home

Sitting at home, all alone, beer in hand, hands outsretched and what could only be described as a primal warrior yell....I think the neighbours probably know i don't mind the footy now.

I believe the quote went something like "do it your way until you stuff it up, then you do it my way".
