Now I thought I was resonsbly computer savy.. I have no friggin idea how to work the torrents thing..

You need to download a program then find a site to download moves.

Can someone please please give me a simple run down of how I'm supposed to be able to do it all???
I feel like a friggin **** over here

Download something like utorrent.

Go to someplace like www.mininova.org, www.isohunt.com or www.thepiratebay.org or search on google for "movie/whatever you want torrents" and download the torrent file. The torrent file is only very small and will take less than a second to download, the the torrent program opens up that file and you download whatever it is your downloading through whatever torrent program you downloaded (utorrent is the best for me).

Anyone got any idea on why my torrent downloading is so so slow? It will go about 50kbs max even if there is about 50 seeders. I dont think my internet is by any means slow, i went on that speed test thingy and got 3318kbs download so I'm not sure what the problem is. Can anyone help?

Other users can limit their upload speed. So sometimes, you might have 50 seeds and still get a slow speed, othertimes you might have 5 seeds, but get 300k/sec.

I think you have do stuff like port forwarding in order to get it to run faster. My friend did all that shiz nizz on my bitcomet and my modem/router settings.

I'd say its a port forwarding issue.

Most torrent clients have a method for checking if your ports are forwarded correctly. If they aren't go to http://portforward.com/ and follow the step by step instructions. It may look technical, but if you follow the instructions word for word its pretty straight forward

Im relatively computer savvy myself, however when it comes to port forwarding ive had nothing but trouble,

Ive read up plenty of info previously, followed guides, my model is not documented so well, i have an OPEN NETWORKS modem.

Anyway, the one time i did manage a while back to get my port forwarded and working like a charm i did get some much improved speeds, but that coupled along with some sorta virus' a while back led to a hacker gettin a hold of my pc.

Not a pleasant experience let me say, at first it was instantly anytime i connected to the internet after switching the modem on, a new local area connection would show up, saying somethin along the lines of Local Area Network on Linux IGD connected.

I could open some properties on it to view that bytes of info where being sent and recieved from and to it, so i knew it wasnt good.
I happend to disable it by disabling then re enabling my LAN connection, but eventually that trick stopped working and i couldnt even access the properties of this connection any longer.

So down to near enuff the last straw, i had to re format my whole pc to be rid of this problem, not long after the re format, the net was back up and running, clean virus free, hacker free.

Within half an hour, freshly re formated comp, HACKER BACK. no jokes. I shit myself just about.

In the end, after my panic i realised the same port i had was still forwarded in my modem, so i got back into those settings and shut it off, no more hacker.

So thats just my personal story of warning and curiosity about port forwarding. Since then ive read up and got plenty tips and tricks to secure my computer a bit more, all seems well now.

As for my utorrent set up, no port forwarding anymore, but have set up a static IP and allowed incoming ping on my routers settings, I get the green tick on utorrent everytime now and usually some quite respectable speeds for adsl1 connection and no apparent hackers. Good luck

Wow, that scares me ^^. I'm actually pretty afraid of hackers. Also I'm not very computer savvy so I think I won't risk it and just deal with the slower speeds. :thumbsu: Thanks for the comments guys

Always make sure you are using a program such as Peer Guardian to avoid getting any Spy-ware, Ad-ware etc. if you want to download torrents.

http://torrentpond.com/ on here you can find download links for the main torrent applications, and a good listing of torrent file databases all serchable from the one page. any news on demonoid?:(

port forwarding is not worth the potential risks, unless you're a spyware/virus/https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/account/upgrades/etc guru. You're opening yourself up to heaps more risks for a minimal rise in download speeds.

If you're that worried about speeds perhaps contemplate a better broadband connection, or keep trying different torrents until you find one that goes quicker.

After personal experience, i agree with above poster.

Do a tiny bit of research to find the best torrents for what your chasing, check comments by other downloaders on specific torrents before downloading to gauge whether its good quality or not and no hidden nasties.

Be sure to find torrents with good seed to peer ratio's as they will download faster for you, better yet get access to some private torrent trackers, they usually get great speeds on torrents.

And as for uTorrent, i just have my router to accept incoming ping set up onto a static IP which i all set fairly easily myself from some online literature.

And use a program like Peer Guardian as well. Do all that and you should remain fairly safe on the net and recieving downloads in good time.

I get 30KBps max on my 256k connection on torrent downloads. Should I be getting it faster?

Yeah i think thats about as good as you'll get mate.

I'm on 512 and get about 52 max with my utorrent set up for max speed.

Maximum download speed you get is counted by dividing your connection speed by 8 or 10.

Nah max speed for a 256kbps connection is 32. Should look for a faster net plan.

I'm not complaining about it. Just I don't get the green tick on uTorrent and if portforwarding meant a significant increase then I'd try it.

Increase? Yes. Significant? No.
