Just on Free Agents...I note Alex Rance is a FA next year. With his dad having played for us there is a family club connection, would think we would be into him massively with a huge offer and the promise of shifting from mid table mediocrity to sustained premiership attack...

Not sure that Jake Carlisle is a FA next year?

Really think we will have a massive crack at WHE.

Could be a very good year to finish right near the bottom and have the PSD threat. WHE and/or Jake via PSD (or using as leverage to get a good trade), and Rance as a FA. Kabboom

Rance would be on big $ at Richmond wouldn't he?

I think he is more important to the Tigers winning games then Jack Riewoldt

He is very important to Tiges but if he remains unsigned he is a target. I'd throw big coin at him, worst outcome, Tiges have to pay more and it compromises their cap.

Now we have Boyd and the best young Vic mid group, we are very well placed to target players like Rance in my view. The whole comp can see we are coming.

Signing Boyd even if he does jackshit next year is key. As Fronk said, it also allows us to do a massive trade next year. WHE fits our needs beautifully.

Gee you have to think that with his ties to the Tiges and GWS, recruiting Choc Williams to coach us could well be a masterstroke.

If we got Rance/Carlisle and WHE that would be completely ridiculous

:straining:
Given that we've dumped Higgins', Cooney's and Griffen's contracts, that's a ridiculous amount of salary cap space that's. Our list management team will be working furiously before the final list management date to ensure that contracts are front-loaded so we can merely meet the 95% salary floor.

With the assumption that Boyd's contract increase from 2015-16 is roughly the same as the decrease in the collective front-loaded contracts of other players, we've still got 10% of the cap to work with to sign any free agents (as we can go to 105% of the cap).
Carlisle-WHE at 700k each isn't as ridiculous as it sounds.

Our list management team knew what they were doing. They didn't just move on Cooney because he was old, they moved him for the salary cap room which the grand plan of it all will come to fruition when we sign one, possibly more gun, OOC players at the end of next season.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean it wasn't possible

more that would be ridiculous to have all these players along with the gifted young players that we already have

fingers crossed that something big does happen next season and we land a big fish in the trade period

Hey Dry Rot I know you already were quick to apologise to Pannalstaroz but I admit I got annoyed at your attitude and bookmarked around P470 of this thread and pulled a few quotes out. In the future, I hope a lot of posters remember the below discussions before ruling anything in or out. (And no I am not kicking you Dry Rot, well a little, but you earned it..:))

Why are we discussing getting Patton or Reid at the end of this season? It is just fantasy.

Rubbish statement. Everyone is gettable.

I totally agree. I'm sick of us thinking negative that we can't attract players. We just need to have the balls to sign a marqee player. We have the capacity to do so and if Ablett, Mumford,Ward and co left for cash, we can put together a deal to make a player a top 10 earner in the comp. They might not be worth it at the time, but as one poster said, Patton will dominate the comp in 3-4 years time and will be priceless. We need to put the pressure on the expansion clubs and throw a golden carrot to a potential young star such as Patton,Cameron,Boyd

Meanwhile, back in reality Patton and Boyd won't be going anywhere at the end of this season....

Nor Reid.

So you agree there is no harm in trying.

Quite the opposite, I think it is ridiculous.

You may well be right, but gee if the right offer got put in front of them, surely they would have to look at it. Balls of steel stuff if they do what you are saying and ignore all offers (also they have already let Tyson and Adams go)

Yeah and of course Syd have free cap space, assume they'll be going after Frawley....

I understand what you are saying....My point is, line a few uncontracted players up..Pattons contract is up at the end of next year, as is Tom Boyds, he will demand a big pay day and we can only try to lure him on a million a year, if GWS offer close to that to keep him, at least we tried. I would then offer 800k to Tom Boyd for 5 years. We just need to go out and hunt these expansion teams who have elite talent. They did it to us, now its our turn. We could offer Jeremy Cameron 1 Mill a year for 5 years and I still believe we most likely won't get him. His contract is up at the end of the year and if he stays on big money with GWS, not sure how they will be able to keep Patton/Boyd the year after. All I am saying is that we have to plan this out and talk to their agents and try.

No, it's just fantasy. Why not go after Cloke, Hawkins or WCE's Kennedy this year too? Just as silly.

And you are the sole judge and arbiter of plausible? I am not - hence the use of the word 'possible'.

I look at Patton because there have been consistent rumours that he may want to head back, and that GWS players are more at risk due to their shit performance and shit living circs in outback Sydney (as opposed to lovely Gold Coast). So no I'm not talking about GCS fwds because I don't think its plausible. I do think Patton is plausible (albeit not a big chance but certainly plausible) you don't....but you go further and call it unrealistic, fantasy and ridiculous, but does than mean you are right?

Other than your theory GWS won't trade because it would send a bad message, you have presented little evidence to suggest why it couldn't happen.

Evidence that it could happen include persistent rumours of Patton being target by us (by very reputable posters here for one) and in other places. That Patton has not extended is contract yet. That GWS are may/could be pushed into trading if Patton says he wants to go at the end of 2015 - like Lake (yes precedent).

Guess we will have to differ, sure probabilities are you on your side, but I think it far from the impossibility you seem to think.

Sounds like you're the bloke who will always have a crack at the super model at the bar.

Fair enough.

You just have to get lucky once, and you nailed a supermodel....

Still waiting...

Not any more.....(well in trade land) ;)

More I think about it, the more in convinced it was so so important to grab Boyd this year rather than next. Would have made it difficult to get the trade assets together to get him and a Carlisle/WHE/Kelly. Gives us a good run at that next season with Boyd already in the bag.

Anyone think we can get Carlisle AND WHE/Kelly?? Tough. Would need one to come via the psd I reckon.

Kelly will still be under contract won't he? Didn't he extend?

EDIT: Damn you Dannnnnnn. You get in quickly.

Another brilliant thing to come out of netting Boyd is the confidence we now seem to feel at our ability to attract talent. I'll admit, I thought the idea of getting Cameron, Boyd, Patton, Carlisle, WHE, Reid etc. was a long shot at best. Now I'm thinking we can get anyone. Can't wait until next trade period.

Hey, I was right about Patton and Reid. :D

WHE HATES SYDNEY, partner finishes her Uni course and is coming back to Melbourne next year. Wants to play for the Bulldogs!! Club knows this!
Well this changes my opinion on getting Both Carlisle and WHE.... where did you hear this? Sheesh...if we pissed people of by gettting Boyd, that would bring the roof down.
