Had a bad ankle injury early this year for Werribee, buyer beware.

Always get nervous when oppo mates suggest one of their players to the Dogs....Black has been top of that list for a couple of Norf mates for a while. Bog ordinary player IMO....would prefer Cloke...

Any further discussions should have the 'Cloke test' applied IMO. If not better than Trav - do not pass go.

It's a fairly low bar, as we are applying a test that puts Jesse White in the mix, but unfortunately Black still doesn't meet the Cloke test IMO.

1. Hurley had dinner with McCartney and beveridge TWICE since his return to aussie. He called McCartney yesterday to say he would have loved to play his footy at the dogs, but just couldn't pull the trigger and leave his mates.

2. The club are keen on cloke and are confident they can get him for a 4th rounder and the pies will pay half of his wage.
Hopefully Hurley shouted the dinner, that's all I have to say. Glad we didn't get him personally. I would rather 2 x 400k players than 1 x 800k chap who hasn't played for a year.

You have no Casey magic ! Ferrell gives me headaches.

Love your work Fronk.

Kudos to Hurley. I would have loved him at the dogs but his loyalty to his friends shows that he's a high quality individual. No one would have begrudged him (from a neutral view) if he left. I think he's made a mistake in terms of playing in a successful side but good on him and we move on.

Don't think we get Cloke. Think his father as manager will push him in the Richmond direction, even though that too wouldn't be a good idea. Would happily give up a fourth rounder for him though.

That's entirely possible Dogsman. What I don't know is whether Cloke is keen on the dogs. We want him tho, and the pies are very reasonable re the framework of a possible deal.

Wasn't keen on Cloke but if that's all it costs then go for it.

Was it because Hurley couldn't pull the trigger or Essendon upped their offer to a ridiculous amount?

What stopped him from signing months ago? Was the bond with his mates not as strong then, or did his greed gland start pulsating?

Much easier for big Mick to save face and say it was about his mates rather than admit it was the filthy lucre that got him and Connors over the line.

The more they pay, the more loyal they are.

Are we any chance at Marchbank now that we've missed Hurley? I know he (and every other GWS player) has been linked to Carlton, but surely losing 9 games in a row would help some of them to consider alternative Victorian teams.

There was a moment in the second half of last weeks match when Darcy Moore was marking everything and his timing just impeccable and Rough went back and took a big contested pack mark against him. The way he moved was Brian Lakeish.
Would he be of more value to us back there? If so which secondary rucks are available on the market? Vardy has been mentioned. Are the two sydney blokes gettable?

Jackson Trengove. Roughy and Trengove ruck and play tall defence. Keeps Boyd forward as well.

That's the one for me, that I would be pushing.

I agree with this.

My view has always been, play 1 permanent KPF (Boyd or Redpath), play a ruckman who rucks big chunks of the match (Campbell or Minson), play roughead down back on the oppositions resting ruck. Means we don't leak goals to their resting ruck, we don't lose ruck competitiveness when our main ruck rests, and Roughead is very good under the high ball down back so can zone off and help pick them off. Also means Boyd would get more time up forward so we aren't compromising forward structure when the main ruck goes off.

It would be a unique structure in the AFL but I think it could work well.

Is the Jackson Trengrove rumour just talk or any suggestion he wants out? I would rather Black to Cloke. That said Cloke might be a better choice. Will fill in while Red is out, and when Redpath returns he can fade into obscurity.

It could be both. There's no reason why he can't want to play with his mates and make extra money. Who could blame him for wanting to eek every last cent out of that club? I'd much rather they retain him for 800k than for 600k.

I like your thinking mate, Marchbank is one that I like as well. The only concerning thing with that is how far advanced talks are with him and Carlton.

here is an idea, what about we push harder and win this years premiership and i don't care about anyone we gonna bring in anymore. we still have as much chance as anyone this year, easier than getting jack riewoldt, hurley or rance.

FT marchbank to me doesn't really fit a great need. I think Adams and probably Cordy are the long term solutions to the second and third tall defender spots and that if we are looking at a tall defender it's a short term stop game that can immediately shut down the big boys e.g. Eric Mackenzie or Nathan Brown or my previous suggestion in a Trengove/Roughead combination.

Trengove and Roughead allows Boyd to exclusively play forward and will allow him to regain the glimpses of size and strength he has shown.

Boyd needs a serious preseason in the gym, whilst maintaining or bettering current fitness levels.

I don't think our issue is the need of a kpd, yes Hurley would have been a massive get and when a player of that class comes up you have to throw your hat in the ring and we well and truly did that but there is no other kpd out there worth the big cost it would take to get them.

We are a fairly dominate side when fully fit our number one issues in my view are:
1. our forward efficiency
2. Marking inside 50
3. Ruck department

We don't give our midfield much silver service at stoppages image the supply our forward line would get if we added a decent hitout to advantage ruckman. We need more targets in our forward 50 Crameri helps this next year but we still need another kpf type.

I would be into Cloke at a small cost.

Who is out there for ruck that is a good hitout to advantage ruckman?

Also we should only be moving guys like Stevens Jong hrovat on if they want to move and if we can recruit an upgrade on them.

So who are the obtainable ruckman available (uncontracted, free agents) ?

Who are the available and obtainable kpf (uncontracted free agents) ?

Are there any decent outside good ball users available?

Ok we need a key back who can defend one one one.

Lynden Dunn as a stop gap for a couple of years while Collins develops?? On the outer at the Dees who are playing Oscar McDonald over him to get games into him.

Big kick, 29, would be our best one on one defender above 190cm? (Moz is 190cm). Would be cheap and a reasonable upgrade on Roberts and Hamling IMO. Dees fans seems to rate him and think he is stiff not to be playing.

I think we may need to start looking at options like this if nothing great presents.

Sadly.

No offence, but there are a handful of players I could never support if they wore our jumper, even if they professed undying devotion to the club.

This maggot is on that list.
