I didn't love him at half back. Just big number accumulation for not much impact. I think he's like Sheezel a bit, good ball user but not quick or a ball carrier and not a penetrating kick. He's very safe which is good if you have a bunch of butchers out of defense but they get a lot more from Rioli and Noble who have that line breaking ability. If I had Flanders I would prefer using Their foot skills further up the ground

I thought his best football in 2024 was as a midfielder. I understand why he was behind a few at Gold Coast but I don't understand why he couldn't have at least been a 30-40% CBA a game player. It was either 80% or more frequently 0%

If Merrett was obtainable and open to a trade to us I would pursue it.

Outside the box I would put Bont behind the ball and have Merrett, Richards, Libba, Treloar, Freijah and Kennedy as the inside nucleus.

This is if no first choice key defenders are available.

I think Bont could Marshall a pretty strong defensive unit and you could replace him with someone like Butters (preference) or Merrett.

We cannot enter this off-season with the same defensive unit and a couple of fringe options added. Won’t get the job done.

Some pretty ballsy trade moves are required.

Pretty mute point anyway cause we won’t get either Butters nor Merrett.

Just focus on a KPD and Butters. Its only 12 more months until we get the confirmation Zak is coming to the kennel. Be patient and don't chase the others

Bont would IMO be more valuable in defence and I think it's time we try something new. Would love Butts as well but seems iffy right now. Bont going back strengthens our backline and opens up an on ball spot too. Feel like it is the big move Bevo needs to experiment with.

Well the past 5 years of him being the best on baller have led to nothing so why not the next 5 years in defence spoiling the ball out of bounds, intercept marking and using his elite kicking to launch counter attacks? I think it is worth a shot to at least look at.

You don’t address your defensive deficiencies by taking the best midfielder in the clubs history and plonking him in the backline. You recruit competent defenders which, evidently, is exactly what we’re currently trying to do.

There is a chance that comes to nothing and we also lose Buku and Jones. Would be even weaker than this year.
