Good point about ignoring the haters. The idea of moving back Bont to the backline is not a bad one, however, now is not the time. It would be a good move in a role such as Pendles but later in his career. Bont is too valuable in the middle atm. In a few years time he could be a good forward or back ala Pendles.
The other issue is that Bont is so good resting forward so there's the chance he spends a few minutes there each game too.

The best way to use Bont instead of pigeon holing look at the opponent and how the game is running and utilise him there.

He is clearly our best mid, one of the best in the competition and that is his starting point. He already rests up forward. There is nothing wrong with also playing him down back in the right circumstances, in a defensive role where his ability would also assist in attack from defense.

Simply put he is versatile and for the team he should be utilised that way and should have the freedom as an on ground leader to make those adjustments during the game

However, saying he should be used down back permanently is simply a waste of generational talent

Surprised we aren’t going after Flanders. Good age and would be perfect off HB flank to compliment Dale.

Would happily part with our first rounder

I'm surprised as well. I saw a couple of Box Hill games this year given we were supposedly interested in Blanck, and Serong looked a better player each time.

At the very least he plays the role we shoved Coffield into for a bunch of games this year.
Surprised we aren't linked at all.

I'm sure Sammy has something up his sleeve but it annoys me that I have to sit at work and listen to every club in the hunt for players and we never get a mention! It makes the day drag! I want to play golf!!

Don't think I will be voicing my opinion on here for a while 😂 bit rough with the feed back
Dont take it personally.

This place gets as sensitive as a Venus fly traps trichome and is just as prone to reflexively snapping shut at this time of year.

Surely we go for Merrett.

Kicking to Darcy and Naughton he would be sensational.

And another left footer mid/ winger/ half back.

Pretty sure he was a dogs supporter as a kid.

If Merrett was obtainable and open to a trade to us I would pursue it.

Outside the box I would put Bont behind the ball and have Merrett, Richards, Libba, Treloar, Freijah and Kennedy as the inside nucleus.

This is if no first choice key defenders are available.

Hawthorn are a way more attractive proposition for him than we are, in just about every metric

Not necessarily. There’s every chance his management set up the call just to make it look like he’s interested, purely to squeeze more money out of the Saints.
Yes but SoS is their list manager,

He will not do anything forcing Wilkie to request a trade

If it then goes through or not is up for debate but knowing SoS he won't budge and it will be interesting to see who blinks first then

Whether the Wilkie gambit comes to anything or not.

It makes me very uncomfortable as a bulldogs supporter as we enter an age where contracts mean nothing. One where free agents are already coalescing around the teams that have historically been the competitions dominant sides. Or where mid tier teams are forced to pay over the odds for equally mid-tier players just to sell hope to a supporter base that sees a game becoming increasingly difficult to draft and develop their way back to competitiveness.

You don’t pick up the phone and have a chat to another teams coach if you’re not at least somewhat interested…

You listen to anybody who is offering you at anywhere between $300k and a choose your own price blank cheque more than your current employer.

In the current climate, Wilkie holds all the cards over the Bulldogs and to a lesser extent St.Kilda. Especially so with us given the amount of pressure that we'll come under should we not land a KPD of note in the coming trade period. To be honest, Im not entirely convinced that Wilkie is the answer either, but here we are painted into a corner of our own making. waving around wads of cash hoping somebody will bite.

Contracts don't mean nothing,

They will get significantly more for Wilkie then we got for Smith due to his contract,

Clubs move on players all the time they don't want or drop them to the 2s so they request a move

The value in the contracts is the trade value
