You do realise that by the time we traded up we knew exactly who pick 6 was going to be. All the list managers and recruiters know exactly who the other is taking, and it's been like that for years. They are all very complimentary to each other as it helps all out.
I know this is the case for some picks in some drafts, but a few too many recruiter heads flinging back/saying ****! under their breath/very disappointed looks at their booth (because their guy got swooped on) during the coverage for this to be across all picks.

I spoke with a 2IC at another club (went on to be a head recruiter) the day after we picked up Howard with our first rounder, and their recruiting department didn't see it coming at all - "we didn't have him (Howard) in our top 50".

And in many cases, the clubs themselves don't 100% know who they're taking - Hawthorn took 2 minutes and requested an extra 2 minutes for the Franklin and Lewis picks in 2004.

Yeah i've argued this with people a few times, i've given up now. We would have loved Watson, but we knew early on (like everyone else and according to Cal's Phantom Drafts at the time) the Hawks were expected to go with the Wizard. It was pretty well known a while out from the draft that's who they were tanking, and we were trading up for Sanders.

I spoke to a recruiter from another club in the year we took Bont and he said they thought it was a massive gamble. Obvious upside but based on short run of form and they thought late first round at best.

It was 50/50 at absolute best that Watson would still be there (and even that’s being generous). There’s no chance we do the trade a month before the draft on a 50/50 proposition if Watson was our target

On the Sanders vs. Watson debate, I thought the main reason to do the trade wasn’t about targeting a player but to get ahead of the Croft bid?

That was the first draft I really properly followed. I remember it was Harley Reid universal #1, then Kerch, Duursma, Walter(tied) & Watson rounding out a clear top 5.

Rumours that Eagles wanted the WA prospect Curtin and if they did a trade with North, one of those top 5 would have fallen to us. That didn’t happen and we ended up having a choice of the second tier who were all rated fairly even (Sanders, Windsor, Curtin, Caddy, O’Sullivan)

Of course, in the past and in later picks, that's true.

But it was very common knowledge that Watson was being picked up pick 5 by the Hawks and widely reported before we executed that trade.

Perhaps we started negotiations before Hawks had firmed but we almost certainly knew pick 6 would be Sanders before the trade.

With a month and half out from the draft? I don't believe this. They may have a good idea but at this point nothing's sure. It was reported that Sam Mitchell was meeting with Curtin and Duursma with a couple weeks to go in the draft. It was also reported that Clarkson was meeting with Curtin. Why would they do that if it was all set it stone?

He was viewed as a major flight risk and he didn’t have a best position.

So we chose Sanders…….

Who Tasmania are going to poach and we are playing out of position.

Curtin didn’t have a best position because he was good no matter where he played. Hardly a problem for the Crows.

Someone from twitter linking us to Ollie lord on the bulldogs facebook forum . Saying we will use him as a key defender.

Don’t know how legit it is just passing on the info
As a Port fan, I have come across this bloke on Twitter and he's full of nonsense. So take it with 2 buckets of salt.

Lord can't play KPD. Has played like 2 games there and half a season in SANFL there and he was terrible.

And people say AI is going to take over, everyone knows Sam Power doesn't blink
