Putting aside how much of a long shot it would be, what would be the trade price for Butters this year? A Jeremy Cameron trade equivalent of our three firsts, with a couple of seconds coming back? Our 2 future firsts straight up?

Yeah I think it’s time re JJ. No longer that damaging speed off half back and now a liability one on one. Thanks for the memories.
I lean the other way. Was good enough for 16 games this year and statistically more or less kept pace with career averages.

At a base contract, I think he'd provide us with more value than whoever our last draft pick would be.

If we are in win now mode he is still gonna be a better option than a late draft kid though I reckon.

Unfortunately it might be the biggest haul for a player in recent memory. Picks are only as good as the recruiting staff. Giants got 3 firsts for Cameron but those 3 players turned out to be Conor Stone, Ryan Angwin & Brayden Cook so complete junk.

A contracted 25 year old top 5-10 player in the competition? It's 3 mid range firsts at least given none are expected to be top 10 picks.

I tend to agree that having JJ around for depth would be good.

I don’t think we can into next year with Dale, JJ and Bramble as our HBs though. Doesn’t stack up defensively.

Anyone know if there’s been any talk about Freijah’s contract? He’s OOC at the end of next season so it’d be good to get him tied down for 4+ years.

I'd trade Freijah for Wilkie on the priviso that it's a straight swap (or something else coming our way - which I don't expect) AND we get Zak Butters this year.

There's always team balance elements though.

Three years ago we needed more pace out of defence and JJ had a role to play holding onto his career for that.

Now that we've added pace in our defence, we've arguably added to much pace, need to swing back the other way and replace him with a defensively-oriented (even if slower) small-medium defender.

I'd rather keep Freijah and just get Butts. Wilkie's price will be astronomical

Yep this is where I am at. If it's costing us a guy like Freijah, thanks but no thanks. Rate him very highly and think he has star potential. Would rather just pay the much lower price, trade and salary wise for a very solid FB in Butts.

Jon Ralph for Fox Footy on Jamie Elliott;

“He would love to finish his career as a one-club player, he has huge loyalty there (at Collingwood), but he certainly has family connections up in Airlie Beach ... I think he is absolutely considering it at the moment.”

Someone needs to get the Fox Sports morons a map.

His manager was quoted a month or two back saying something like Freijah loves it and they will be looking to extend his contract at year end.

Watching Freijah slotting goals on the run from outside 50 in Saints colours would be devastating to watch.

He’d barely get a chance to kick a goal at that club, he’d be too busy doing Lyon’s defending
