Hopefully the club is working on a back up pain don’t think Sam Power would be silly enough to put all the eggs into the Wilkie bucket
Wilkie was the backup plan to Silvagni. Butts was the backup plan to Wilkie. Now there could be backups to those backups on the horizon that have yet to materialise. But we’re fast approaching the point where bringing in a backup for backups sake. Isn't an improvement on the current backup that we have.

Ryan Gardner.

He won't publicly request a trade if a deal isn't atleast on the table. Saints at this stage still refusing to budge on his deal but also not entertaining a trade. They're relying on him not being the type to blow things out publicly and professional enough to play on knowing he is foregoing a huge increase, seems at this stage he is prepared to do that. Either way we will know next week.
I reckon he tells them he is staying at their BnF and he gets announced as the captain. That is my feel.

Speed - Generally, although he did catch Hill (no one expected that)

Penetration on disposal - particularly by foot.

Burst speed - Getting away from congestion.

Every player has limitations, even The Bont, the good ones overcome them by excelling in other areas. The good coaches, give the player the opportunity to.
It's funny because I don't consider Libba a player with limitations.
He is the perfect inside midfielder. Sure some of his qualities won't work as a forward or outside but that's not his position.
Also will have to respectfully disagree on disposal penetration. He's only behind Bont and Dale in our side for long kicking skill.

Leaving 1mil+ on the table in the next 2 years for the saints captaincy. Can’t knock his loyalty.

Especially with JSOS and Flanders getting paid more.
Some people are just loyal can see why since the saints give Wilkie a chance as a mature ager in the rookie draft

Least flexible in case of injury. JOD can play anywhere and Lobb can Ruck. Pretty logical I would have thought.

Buss was easily our best defender on the day.
Spot on. Bev himself said something along these lines

About the only thing he does get wrong is get out of position at stoppages at times which he himself admits. Out side of that he is one of the best in his role

I don't know if it will be loyalty so much as unwillingness to do a deal on Saints part.
oh well Wilkie is contracted so saints hold the cards . hopefully we can get Connor Budarick over the line he is also important to get since we are looking for a small defender

I'll be so happy if we can land Butts, I think he's a really good, strong FB and exactly what we need. Right age bracket too and while still contracted, won't cost a stupid amount in trade if he requests out.

Butts, Budarick and Sellwood with a pre-season with us under his belt, plus natural improvement from JOD, Buss and even Cleary and our defence should be much improved next year. Obviously some up field pressure and tactical things we need to improve also, but adding to our personell will help a lot too.

I thought Butts was quite unlikely to leave

Nobody really knows yet. It rests with us really, if Wilkie gives us a no and we turned to him with a 4 year $2.8 mil - $3.2 mil type offer to get him to ask out, I imagine we'll get our wish. Will still have to satisfy Adelaide in trade, but say whatever we get for Buku plus a future 2nd probably gets it done.

If he’s staying they’ll give him a big new deal. We’ll get a read on where he’s at on Monday night. They still have a captain though, it’s only their supporters that have him out in his arse already.

Thought Cal Twomey said he wasn't leaving

Or we focus on Butters this year

Bulldog interest in Wilkie aside. I don't think the Saints should seriously consider offering him the captaincy and if they do, then he probably should think twice about accepting it.

I think the fact people keep trotting the potential captaincy thing out to try to keep him there, is actually a bit ridiculous and embarrassing for their club.

From Wilkie's perspective it could make it more difficult for him to leave a club that is clearly under paying him and likely reduce his bargaining position and open market value for his next contract negotiation, regardless of whether he stay or goes. From the Saints club perspective, it comes across as insincere and being motivated by a desperate attempt to keep a player they seemingly don't rate all that highly (at least financially) and who would therefore likely be a relatively short-term occupant of the role.

How does a guy in the middle of the financial pack exert authority over others that the club is clearly more invested in? Not easily.

Because I have an ability to see into the future. Heres's how the media will cover that news.

'Crazy Bevo ignores gaping hole in defence and selects midfielder.'
