Norf backing in their current key defenders after approaching the same players as us.

Theres quite literally no one available
We dropped the ball by not chasing Tylar Young harder.
He was perfect - cheap, excellent numbers, and 27 yo

This. 100%.
Zak knows it, Port and the Dogs know it.

Port have one of the biggest contracts in afl history in front of him as of mid this year and he approached them a few months later asking to see if they’d be interested in trading him home.

They’ll hold him to contract and spend the next year convincing him to stay.

The only thing I’m confident on if it isn’t Port, it’s us. 50/50 right now.

I’ll say one thing on this.

This has very little to do with the football and they cannot convince him to stay. Port knows this, Dogs know this. He has met with senior leaders at the Dogs.

Port knows the situation and most clubs would be sympathetic. I would be surprised if he landed anywhere else but the Dogs, it just whether it is this year. Another father son may also be looking to relocate to Victoria in the foreseeable future. Not necessarily to dogs just Victoria.

Sanders hasn't extended with us and remains a flight risk. He also has failed to cemented a position in our best 23. Of course we should trade him if we can get good value. I'm not convinced his value is higher in a year than it is now. To me, we overpayed to get the pick for Sanders and should now cut our losses and move on. We have much higher needs than another average midfielder.

Zak Jones, Zak Butters and Jordan Butts has a lot of synchronicity. Would make us serious contenders next year.
Where does the synchronicity end though? then Jordan Boyd from Carlton? Then we get Tom Boyd out of retirement? Then we get Tom Fullarton?

Great interview by Sam Power regarding the 2025 trade period.

We talk a lot about Butts but I’ve never seen him play. Has anyone watched him play enough to give an educated profile and assessment of him?
He's a fantastic player but his body is made of glass. Has a history of getting subbed out in the 2nd or 3rd quarter.

Think Daniel Talia. He stops the opposition's best forward, but wont provide anything on attack.

I personally think he's best 22 but the coaches chose to pursue Nick Murray this year instead

I'm not even sure if this is a good strategy purely from a football sense because if he walks you only get 1st round compensation and by keeping him, if he wins games for you, that compensation pick isn't going to be top 5 or whatever.

And if he does stays you've screwed your salary cap.

And we'd trade much more this year than what the free agency compensation that they're going to get.

There's probably some game theory nash equilibrium strategy to this or whatever but + Butters, - salary cap room, -1st draft pick isn't worth +3 1st round draft picks, salary cap room or whatever.

Maybe Port simply know that their ability to materialise on-field value out of cap room and draft pick in the post-Hinkley era where they might be closer to the Primus era is just not all that great, which is fair enough.

Sanders for Butts in a straight swap? Hell No!

Although not sure how good Sanders will become if he leaves with JUH that would mean 3 of our last 4 single figure draft picks are gone. All for different reasons but not a great look.

Be careful saying that name around here :p

Adelaide won't even give a first rounder for Ah Chee the cheap pricks
I mean, should they be? He turns 28 in a couple days. Averages 13 disposals and a goal a game. He’s a good, but not elite, forward. Seems like it’ll get done for two 2nd rounders or something at that level. Definitely not first round pick territory
