Re Leek Aleer

Have they found out something? Similar to offering two top ten picks for JUH last year and then withdrawing after doing their due diligence?

Not to cast aspersions on Aleer, but having him 99% over the line with a contract offer to make him walk out of the club, then just abandon him seems like a move that would have no-one trusting them with a contract offer again - unless - they can justify it by saying they've uncovered something untoward.

I figure they spent his money on the list manager's son.

This board now: “why don’t we trade Sanders or Sam Darcy for Leek Aleer”
Yes because Sanders and Sam Darcy have identical values and this is a fair assessment to make???

Id be keen on Aleer but not for the price Saints we're paying. It's remarkably crappy dealing to get a player to nominate your club and turn away other potential suiters aswell as burn bridges at their current club before pulling out at the 11th hours. Im principle deals had already been done with the Giants aswell.

To me it has to be a play for SDK. Once Marshall nominated the Cats they were very keen on uniting the two DeKonings but it relied on Steele moving off of the books. Steele refusing to entertain the thought put a stop to that plan.
Also, they had to cough up extra cash for Wilkie. :mask:

Just bring frost in on the cheap.

Unless he’s done something really bad, then managers shouldn’t look to business with the saints. 5 days to go and withdrawing interest for Aleer is a pretty crappy way of operating. Just considering the human element of this.

I think GWS were still keen to retain Leek so maybe stays there on a 1-2 year deal still and tries to get the big offer somewhere else down the road. If he hasn't failed a medical or done something wrong, that's pretty shit by the Saints to get him to ask out after committing to him, to just walk away now.

Reeks of Dodoro.

iF it's a play for SDK and they pull it off. Then I'll go from mocking to applauding their trade strategy.

Even if it's shiity way of doing business. It will turn out to be a ruthlessly efficient one.

Personally I think it's more likely the inevitable consequence of Cal Wilkie getting a huge bump in salary. A portion of which really should be kicked back to Sam Power for making it happen.

It was going to be a future 3rd for Aleer and he had 4x 700k assigned to him from the Saints.
GWS currently have 2x400k infront of him.
Would 3x500k get a deal done at the dogs?

My amateur opinion on him aside, I just don't know that chasing another raw KPD that has a long way to go is in our best interests.

Id hope not.

Aleer is athletic but thats about the extent of his ability.

Like Khamis as defender. If the ball isn't going directly towards him, then he's completely clueless as to how to position himself or defend his direct opponent.
