Trade: Andrew Lovett

I have mixed emotions.

Lovett can be an amazingly talented footballer but unfortunately, he's much too inconsistent.
I'm happy to keep him, but he needs to sort out his priorities and decide whether he actually wants to commit to this football club.

I heard that he was very unhappy about not getting traded...

news travels fast

Especially considering this news has already made it's way to Tassie.

I'm wrapt he is still a Bomber.

Would have been OK with him leaving but only if a super deal came our way.

Mate, every club in the AFL is so s**t scared to trade any pick under 20 for a player that the market values are now completely skewed.

One day a club is going to decide to trade all of its picks from 6 and beyond and make an absolute killing.

Its a nonsense but thats another discussion.

You can not admit you over rate him :D
The market is only skewed in your opinion. Clubs don't wan't to give up top 20 picks because every year we get more and more information about the kids that go top 20. The draft is a bloody good tool if used propelry and every year since we have had draft camp/state screening the results have been better.
There are good and bad years but the trend shows clubs will not fork out picks in trades in the stronger years.

Well I just heard it on the news... Is that sarcasm?
We're pretty intelligent down here in Tassie ;)

Most opinions on BigFooty were that he wanted (wants) to stay at Essendon. So the truth is he actually wanted to be traded? If that is true then i hope it doesn't affect his commitment, which wasn't the best even before all of this.

Hey now, Don't blame the Tasmanian, blame Tasmania's news!
They're obviously full of...

so is lovett going to have a career best season next year to keep this from happening again?

I think the question is 'Does he want to have a career best season next year?'

I personally was hoping he would stay but with all the reports of friction between Lovett and the club it will be interesting to see what happens next season.

Personally, I think he'll put the conflict aside and hopefully just focus on his football. He's arguably the most exciting player in our side, he just needs to find some consistency and string a few really good games together to build some confidence. He's got the talent, but does he have the passion?

I have no idea where he stands now. At first i thought he wanted to stay at Essendon, then was apparently disappointed at not being traded, now his manager has said he will work hard and try to make a successful time at Essendon. I agree on all of your points, he is talented and very exciting at his peak, just hope Knights and Lovett can get friendly.

By the way I am not blaming Knights for anything that has happened, i think he handled it pretty well, just Lovett needs to get his head right. Time will tell.

i see the lovett issue as a good test for knights so early in his coaching career.

can knights put aside what must be a fair amount of disappointment & anger at lovett's attitude & behaviour & help develop him into one of the premier smalls in the comp which we all know he could well be?

or will he be banished to the two's & discarded next year?

i wait with much anticipation

He'll be in the side round 1 aslong as he doesnt ---- up over the summer IMO.

How do Lovetts contimual problems an inability to do the team things on the ground become a question mark on Knights.
Knights has always been very up front with the players. Absolutlely straight down the line. If you stick to the team plan and values you will get your chance.
The ball is well and truely in Lovetts court here.

I am worried about Lovett, Stanton and Prismall in the same team.

give it a rest mate, every time you post it's negativity towards Prismall.

A classy user, a ligntning fast matchwinner and a posession accumulator in the same team couldn't possibly work.........

where have i suggested that??

i will be a test for knights as to how he approaches the issue of coaching & developing what is still a young player that he has made clear he no longer wanted in his group

i see such a situation as a development issue as much for knights as a coach as it is for lovett as a player

My comment has nothing to with Prismall but an observation that we probably have 3 players in the midfield who lack DEFENSIVE PRESENCE.

And there are other players

Nash
Laycock
Nathan Lovett Murray

You know nothing about Knights then do you. If Lovett sticks to what is outlined by the coach and leadership group he will get a game. He has always been very clear about that.
He has been straight and open in everything he has done and i doubt it will change now.

i would know as much of knights as anyone looking from the outside in, which no doubt includes yourself

i applaud the solid stance on player behavior etc, however you seem to suggest there will be nothing for knights to learn or gain in his dealings with lovett going forward

he must be the most 'complete' senior coach in history if that were the case, & that he is not

No i am saying he is straight up and down with the players.
Lovett will know exaclty where he stands.
Knights will have no hesitation in playing Lovett if Lovett is doing everything right. That is the system he has put in place.
What is there to learn from ? The coach has to have his system in place and if one or two players fall by the wayside then so be it.
Knights will tell it straight up, as he has already done in numerous situations with players and the players involved will know exaclty where he is coming from.
It has nothing to do with being a complete coach.

Knight is employed by EFC to obtain results !

This suggests that if Lovett follows Team Rules and his form is good he will be in the 22 each week.

I would also suggest that Ant has good connections within the club.

Apologies for bringing this thread back.... but I was intrigued last night to see that Lovett had been used in EFC marketing materials throughout this period of supposed uncertainty.

My parents have been away for a while and returned home to find an EFC Birthday card (as usual) which had both Lloyd & Lucas in the background.... with Lovett as the focus of the design in the foreground of the front cover. The birthday was actually during trade week (and I assume the card was therefore sent around then), so I was quite suprised that he was the club figurehead selected for this.

I would interpret this as suggesting either i) internal communications at the club are poor (i.e. between football dept. and marketing); or ii) that we were never planning on trading him at all?

Did anyone else receive the same b'day card?

iii) or that the deal wasn't done at that point and they still had stock(birthday cards) to use?
