Yeah, gotta agree with you guys Houla and Whitnall... cos Houla is abit of a **************** and Lance.. well we all know his had time to prove himself and his just on and off..

I have been one of the biggest houlihan doubters on this site!!! but we have to be very careful if we trade him - we deserve something good for this guy . Have perservered with him when he was scared to go near an oppenent and have now got him to the stage where he lays a few tackles and will run hard defensively aswell. If he keeps improving could almost be worth keeping him - and i HATE saying that. Obviously if we were offered an alright deal, id love to accept it - otherwise we should aim at getting some in and under players and use ryans skill on the outside when the likes of campo and lappin r gone.

Where are all the RYAN loyalist who are always on me for asking him to step up?

The sort of player who finishes well and looks good in a very good team. At the Blues he is not much help.
Do we trade him for hard inside players who will instantly help?
Or keep him for when we have those type of players and he can shine?
The reason he turns the ball over is that he TRIES the difficult kick to set someone up instead of banging it long to a pack. I would keep him for this year and if he has not improved nest year then look to trade him then.
This years draft is not looking great and the following one looks like we will need to keep our options open to some dealing to get hold of better quality youngsters.

Yeah im with you there, keep him unless a very good deal comes along. Unfortunately we are not going to win a flag next yr, so no point in trading this guy for a one or two yr solution. Build a team of hard ball winners and develope Ryan into a hard running player, much like Travis "weakdog" Johnstone at Melbourne. Travis kills oppostions with his precision kicking and classy finishes.

Ryan bring this to carlton and even add a little bit more defensive game than travis, plz!

if you dont want big lance send him this way!!!

what would you realistically expect for him... would you still trade him if he continues to underperform and subsquently lowers his value?

I dont think he is playing badly at all. He actually has been reasonable. Pagan has played him down back at times but when he is deep in the forward line and the midfield actually get the ball and deliver it to him he looks good. Our problem is that we have 4 midfielders only in Camp, Stevens, Kouta and Scotland. They get tired and overran easily with no relief. Stevens and Campo are carrying knee injuries and Scotland is in poor form.
In a side like WC or Adelaide, Whitnall and Fev would be doing a lot more. The club probably feels that Waite can take Whitnalls position for next year and there are planty of other marking options for next year and the future already at the club (Setanta, Raso, Fisher, Hartlett). Just a case of trading a relative strength to fill in what we dont have.
Not a knock on Whitnall but just trying to improve things for the club.

Carlton would want your first round pick which looks like being the very last pick in the first round (pick 18). We would probably like it a few picks down. Not sure if you have any players you would be willing to swap. Jones and Wooden are 26 or older and you wont trade any of your regular midfielders. Gardiner is older than Whitnall and is injured most of the time so no to him.
Wirripunda?

So that's a NO to a Michael Gardiner - Lance Whitnall trade??? I would jump at that any day of the week.

I think with his knee injuries he might not be able to ruck anymore? Not sure about that but definitely for this year Woosha said he will not ruck.
Gardiner played 16 games in 2002
18 in 2003
3 in 2004
7 so far this year,

If he could ruck and then move forward he is very valuable. If he cant and is just a forward then Whitnall is twice the player he is.

I seriously doubt whether Whitnalls output would be twice that of Gardiner's playing as strictly forwards. Lance has given us donuts most of the year albeit with a lack of decent ball.

Gardiner does appear a tad injury prone, but with good management he would hopefully be able to overcome these and be our No.1 ruckman for the next 5 or so years, (Don't forget French is 30) and it would allow us to blood a young ruckman as a second stringer and fill the void of the imminent retirement of French.

I thought Gardiner's injuries were mostly hamstrings??

Gardiner has knee problems. Thats why he may never be a good ruckman again. I know he has done his knee once and had a full knee reconstruction but I also think he had other knee injuries as well.
A tad injury prone?

since 2000 Whitnall has played 104 games and Gardiner 79. Whitnall is injury prone as well in that time so it goes to show how bad Gardiners body really is.

this year

Whitnall 13 games 14 disposals 6 marks 22 goals
Gardiner 7 games 6 disposals 3 marks 11 goals

imagine what Fevola/Waite/Whitnall would do in front of the WC midfield and team before you build Gardiner up to much.

I'd take Houla. I don't mind him. I reckon he's soft but he can find he ball and use it very well.

Hey, with the club sponsor we've got, the last thing we need is Lance. He'll never leave HJ's! :D

You won't get any laughs on this board, idiot.

Very sorry to have ruffled your feathers! Wasn't looking for laughs, but I suppose there's not much to laugh about over here ATM anyway.

Thank you for your time!

Before I go through my list, keep in my that you NEED to give someone to get someone. So, that being said, here they are:

Lance Whitnall
Ryan Houlihan
Heath Scotland
Trent Sporn
Simon Wiggins

Not sure what we'd get for the last two, but IMO, we should try and get either 1st or 2nd round picks. We need to stock up on the kids and it's been proven that recycled players don't work.

These two were first rd draft picks, in a strong draft - something is wrong there. Unfortunately this years draft is deffs not the strongest

Some people in here are soft.

Saying Houlihan should stay etc. He is trade bait and I'd prefer to laugh at him in another club guernsy.

I don't want the younger plays to look up to Houla, skirting around the packs, trying to be fancy. His pathetic.

i think it would be good for houlihan if he changed club, i think that he would be a better player given the oppurtunity at a more sucessful club
