Will brodie off to the dockers. I hope a few people in here have stocked up on tissues

No, that's what it cost Melbourne because they had fu** all picks. It SHOULD have cost us a few picks in the 30s and 40s that we already had locked and loaded.
And now Melbourne don’t have a first round pick next year, dangerous strategy trading future first or second rounders imo. Just ask Pies and Saints to a lesser degree.
Only thing I want out of this trading period is either retain CCJ or get a reasonable return for trading him. The rest I could not care less about as our draft hand is damn good as it is and we have a good recruiting crew.
Upgrade those picks where we can but if not a good deal, take what we have

For those currently playing at home…

It is good Collingwood have 22 and WB have 23… means 26 and 28 will hold their position (i.e. two less players will be taken before those picks).

It also looks like…

Pick 38 will become 37
Pick 42 will become 41
Pick 47 will become 42

*Pending Dunstan compo.
Dunstan is a delisted free agent. There is no compo.

Not sure there is. Western Bulldogs and Collingwood wanted points, Gold Coast want rid of 19 for some reason.

Who else wants to trade out of the first rounder? We wont use our third rounders this year, so we may now need to forget about this years First round and trade these for next years draft. I would of bet we should of obtained another first rounder this year with the depth of that first 20.

Whilst I know our guys are good at their craft, I know Blair has presented a dossier of how we are planning our list build, but we can still be disappointed we seem to not be as active with the club with the most draft collateral in the league. We are not very aggressive in general, the last time we were we obtained 3 Premiership players in the trade period and still had a good draft.

Plenty to play out, let's hope we can still recover this period to be a success. Harder now with both gettable picks in 17 & 19 off the table. Here's hoping our guys have got something planned.
Brisbane's first next year might be on the table .Pretty sure Ashcroft looks a player for FS pick .They have two firsts this year so something with them maybe .

Reckon there's a balls up in this, we currently 47, must mean Saints 67 goes to Melb.

Just did a points analysis on this and the Dogs have done well, Melb has paid a hefty price for 17 and Adelaide similarly have paid large for essentially a 5 pick upgrade.

Adelaide:
Gave up 23-37-44-62-66- F4 for a total cost of 1863 pts
Got back 33-75-F1 (Melb could be 17/18) for a total benefit of 1548 pts (net loss 315 pts)

Melb.:
Gave up 33-45-F1 for a total cost of 2077 pts
Got back 17-37-67 for a total benefit of 1577 pts (net loss 500 pts)

Dogs:
Gave up 17-75 for a total cost of 1025 pts
Got back 23-44-45 for a total benefit of 1524 pts (net gain 499 pts)

Not gonna worry about the Saints as they gained 2 x 4th round picks. (net gain)

Can't say I'd be all that happy if the Tigers did what Melb. did to acquire a 1st this year. Or what Adelaide did for just a 4-5 pick upgrade.

I think Melbourne with their situation hardly lose a thing like the Bulldogs first next year

Sign Stack now! What's the effing holdup?

Apparently pick 17 was vital in the resigning of Stack. He prob joins lolNorf on a 10 year deal now

Not sure why everyone is melting. We have retained Garthwaite, Parker, George and Aarts. That is what’s important at the end of the day. Just need to get Caddy to sign that four year deal and we’re good to go.

Has Garthwaite actually be re-signed? Surely not

We went through this last year. Dead were being done and the usual trust the club bulls hit was being padded out. Active clubs grabbed the pies 1st and GCS end of 1st for fu** all while we were “happy” to take our picks to the draft… then we traded it out on the day which suggests we weren’t that fussed on taking it to the draft rather we were too risk adverse to use it when it might of got us something good.

Rather than suggesting the club are all over this, simply accept our team are overly risk adverse and will take what we have to the draft and probably accept mediocre trades on the night.

Collingwood didn't trade their first until after a bid came on their NGA player, which was after we'd traded pick 20 to Geelong for what became 15 this year. Collingwood wanted and got multiple picks in the 20s last year, which we didn't have to give.

you do know getting 'beaten to the punch' just means we were outbid yeah? If you're buying a house and have a budget of $700k (ie the house is worth taking on a mortgage of $700k) and someone comes in and bids $800k, you don't go and try and top that, you just walk away. Yeah ideally the other party wouldn't have bid and you'd get it for good value, but it's bad list management to pay overs if we don't consider it worth it.
We don't have a budget of $700k, we have the biggest budget at the auction just too scared to pull the trigger to get the deal done. To use your analogy.

Yep and we're still stuck with a bunch of picks in the 30s and 40s that we can't use.

Yeah but Melbourne know what they paid Dunstan in terms of compo and where they lose in points its later picks anyway, which I am sure they are not losing sleep over
