Interested in thoughts on this as a possible trade we could do.

Heres is the scenario:
We offer Schulz and Meyer as a package to the Crows. In return we get their first round pick(12-16) and Meeson (developing ruckman drafted 04).

If we were to secure that deal along with the picks we are likely to get in the draft we would walk into draft day with picks 1, traded pick from Crows 12-16, PP 17 & Second Round pick 18. 4 picks in the top 20 of this years draft where we could focus on areas we need to focus on.

That opens up our options for draft day as we have secured a young ruckman, Meeson with 3 years of development already put into him. We lose Schulz who has not really delivered on the promise he showed early and Meyer who again has not been able to deliver on the promise he showed. Both of these are replaceable as we have players like Hughes/Riewoldt who would be not that far behind in terms of covering Schulz and Meyer could easliy be covered by a kid like Edwards who IMO has shown a little bit more than Meyer has recently despite being a first year player.

As I said we then have options open to us on draft day. Pick 1 can be used on a tall like Kruezer or a mid like Cotchin or whoever else is considered the best kid in the draft. Pick 12-16 can be used on the best player avaiable at the time same with the Picks at 17 & 18 used to add depth to the big man stocks i.e. back up ruckman, Key position player & a hard at it inside mid to increase our depth there as well.

****BTW I am assuming these are the picks we are going to end up with and in no way am suggesting we get rid of these players just throwing up an idea. After all our senior players have little currency that if we are looking at trading the kids are where we have something to offer. ****

:) IF we could pull that off, I'd be rapt! But don't see the Crows falling for it....they're far too smart.

Not sure how much value both Meyer and Schulz have. Talent is there, but arguably the laziest pair at the club. Both show no real urgency!

iv got a feeling we could get meesen in the psd. Adelaide have biglands, hudson, maric and griffin, very very strong. Im sure meesen is aware he'd get a lot more gametime at the tigers.

how are we supposed to get this priority pick?
I thought you had to win less than 5 games 2 years in a row...

That might be true but like most that leave the Tigers they seem to flourish once they have. The Crows get players in areas they seem to need help in. Tall forward and mid sized flanker/winger. We get help in the big man dept and also gain another high draft pick. If anyone could pull off that type of deal though, it is Miller.

pick 17 is the PP. You get a PP at the end of the first round if you win less than 5 games and get a priority pick before round 1 if this happens 2 years in a row

If you win less than 4 in one year you get a PP at the end of the first round. If we were to suck for 2 straight years we would get it before the first round. That is why the Blues need to win more than 5 this year, other wise we miss out on Pick 1 if we get the spoon.

yeh maybe after he's thrown our pick 1 in the mix!

meeson or maric should be our target in the psd no need to trade

schulz and meyer arent worth shit, the only thing they got going for them is where they were selected in the draft and not much else

What if Nick Riewoldt could be had in the PSD?

I would take this deal and bite their hands off only if we were to get a Nick Riewoldt in the PSD.

Pick 1, 12, 17 and 19 along with Nick Riewoldt and John Meeson would be awesome and could cause a turnaround for sure. With Mark Coughlan, Nathan Brown and Troy Simmonds all fit....could be awesome.

I still think both Schulz and Meyer can develop into very good players, but a deal like that could be very, very tempting.

A forward line consisting of:

Nick Riewoldt
Matthew Richardson
Nathan Brown

That would be a nightmare for any oposition.

Then having Simmonds and Meeson as the ruckman alternating makes us better already.

come on guys let's not be delusional. We aren't going to get nick riewoldt in the PSD. The Schulz and Meyer trade will only work if we also provide a pick to compensate adelaide losing their top pick.

Pick 18, Schulz, and Meyer for Meesen and 1st rounder.

looking forward to trading and the PSD?? oh my we are in trouble:o
Sorry didn't realise I wasn't allowed to look at possible ways to help improve the side. I mean its not like we are an shot at the 8 or perhaps you would prefer we were. We are looking more and more like finishing near the bottom in not bottom so why not toss around a few ideas and see what comes of it. Not like Wallace and Miller are going to read it and think shit lets do that.

Thought about that as a possible option but in reality we are taking an untried player in Meesen and another in the kid at pick 12 while the Crows get 2 players with 3-5 years of development already put into them and ready to step into a side straight up. Notsaying they would at Adelaide but you get what I mean. Why not play hard ball after all if Meesen walks from the Crows we can take him for nothing in the PSD and they would be aware of this.

How about this?

Richmond
in: Salopek, Meesen
out: Meyer, Schulz, Krakouer

Adelaide
in: Schulz and Meyer
out: 1st round pick, Messen

Port Adelaide
in: 1st round pick, Krakouer
out: Salopek

Crows wouldn't give us this.

I'm happy to trade of Meyer even though I know he's gonna be a gun when he finally gets to Crows.

Schultz is contracted till next year, I would like to see him play out his contract.

I'm not having a go at you RT, I just think all of these trade scenarios are pie in the sky stuff. IMO trade period & PSD is for supplementing your list and adding depth, not getting key players for key positions (unless you are very lucky, very good or have lots of green:D ).....that's what drafting and recruiting are for!! There's my 2 cents.....now speculate all you like;)

i think i would hang onto schulz for another year or 2
we all know he ahs talent he just has to realise it
but i dont want a player who still hasnt realised he has talent at 27 like tivendale

Maybe instead of trading these two players instead we invest some money into the strengthening and conditioning area of our club and get these and the rest of the club a lot physically stronger. I don't believe their talent is the problem.

The major problem Adelaide is facing is no forward line at the moment. Perrie, Welsh, Bock, McGregor and Hentschel (on the LT Injury list). A goalsneak and key position player returning home should be appealing to a Club who is fed up with the above misfits!
