I admit, my response was a bit over the top. I hope to keep my passion under control henceforth. The banter here should be friendly and civilised.

It's all good...thanks for saying that. We're all friends on here after all!

Even if I do belong to a 'tragic' club, I'm not all bad ;)

We'll have success, I don't need you to warn me. What makes me sure we'll have success? Nick Riewoldt. Kossie. Ball. Black. Hayes. Milne. Dal Santo. Maguire. Clarke. Hamill. Gehrig. Lawrence.

That list is scary. Ouch.

In the past we have many great individual talents, but now we have a team bursting with young talent, it's frightening.

But we aren't a corrupt club. We haven't had much success in the past yes, but over here we are looking to the future, not gloating about the past. We have off-field unity, on-field strength. If the football god lets us have at least 1/2 of our full team on the park this year, I have no doubt where we will finish.

One thing you forgot to mention which casts a shadow over this optimism - Grant Thomas! ;)

Are you hunting me down KM? Damn stalker! I can't hold a grudge against Adelaide supporters...for reasons I can't post on bigfooty ;)

Grant Thomas; why do you object to him coaching? Played about the same number of games as Chris Connelly, nobody has any problems with him. Both will achieve success in the very near future.

We are happy with Thomas, he will be around for a long time yet I hope. The time to rate his performance will be in the next few years. If he can't get the Saints to perform by the end 2004, then his contract won't be renewed. The chances of Thomas being sacked because of poor on-field performances in the next two years, are about 100/1. All Saints fans hope he'll be around for years to come.

He may well be the man to bring us a premiership, I really don't know, but let time be the judge. For the time being, I am very happy.

Nah, not hunting/stalking you - just couldn't resist a comment about Thomas. I don't have a problem with the number of games he played, but more is ability to coach. Fortunately he doesn't coach the Crows, so I'm not too fussed!

No, supporting the Saints will get you nowhere evertonfc. How was your financial loss this year? How many million? And remember your off field strength is based around fair-weather supporters, (you were barely better than us in 2002). Prey you do have the joy on the park you proclaim will be heading your way, because if you put any more spoons in the cabinet the red, white, and blacks will become New Fitzroy.

We have one spoon. You have one premiership. You have neither history or the present to warm you. You want to ****-stir and you're a Saints supporter? You cant be blissfully ignorant and have an opinion too.

Your original message concerning trades was a farce and that is why you have received such a cool response. Don't delude yourself about Carlton fans being suddenly angry at St.Kilda people. You're don't win enough to be a threat. I don't wish for you to vanish, but if you do, don't come and support the Blues as a result. We're popular enough.

Supporting the Saints has got me nowhere? How do you figure that?

Our financial loss this year was between 1.3 and 1.7million A$. I am not here to start a slanging match, thus I don't want to remind you of Carlton's debt and the white Elephant with *that* scoreboard.

I don't prey that success will be heading our way in the next few years, I know it will be. I am also sure, that with the benefit of some GOOD youth (not Doering, Cranage, etc) and a superb coach, Carlton will also be joining us if they can get their act together.

I want to ****-stir and be a Saints supporter? I'm not sure what you're saying by this...I am "warmed" by the history and the present. I love football 'Orangewhip', it has brought me a lot of joy even though I have followed a team that hasn't brought me a great deal of success in recent years. The future however, is difficult to keep a lid on. I am excited by what we will do, not what we have done, because that's in the past and I'm not living there, my club and I are living for the future.

Carlton too, with the investment in youth, a fine coach and hopefully a new board are also heading in the right direction.

The original post was simply my opinion. The Campo trade was undervaluing him, yes, but I don't rate him highly while he displays the attitude he does at Carlton. As I posted earlier, I saw him destroyed by Steven Baker, a bloke half his size, when Camporeale needed to step up and take responsibility for Carlton's midfield. He looks disinterested to me, but I believe a new club could turn that around. Maybe he'll recover some of his form of days gone by under Pagan, it's difficult to predict. The Allan trade, well, I think that was more than fair and in hindsight I'd be more inclined to take Begley than Allan.

I'm not deluding myself about Carlton fans being angry all of a sudden, but in the past couple of years, it seems a real anti-St.Kilda sentiment has sprung up. I'm not sure if it's because of Livingston and Cranage, Lappin or what. But hey, if it means that Carlton vs St. Kilda develops into a blockbuster game, then I'm fine with that. Better for both clubs!

I'm not concerned about 'jumping ship' to Carlton...it won't happen because St.Kilda won't die; our finances will improve - just like Collingwood who were racking up debts annually that were twice as bad as us some years ago. I don't think the titanic debt that Carlton faces will put it under either, or at least I hope it doesn't. I really do hope you guys stick around. If you do go under, and I don't believe it will happen (in the short term at least) you're more than welcome to join St. Kilda, I am proud enough to claim that my club welcomes people regardless of race, colour, religion, sex or even past teams! If any Fitzroy fans wanted to join, I'd be totally cool with it!

Presently, Carlton, given its future as against ours, doesn't pose a forseeable threat to St. Kilda and hence we aren't concerned. And perhaps, rightly so, Carlton fans may want to believe St. Kilda's past doesn't 'warrant' a threat to the Blues. Personally, I don't see either club threatening each other, or anyone else for that matter! Both clubs are concerned with making themselves as strong as possible; mud-slinging doesn't do anyone any good.

If this post was anywhere else, I may have been tempted to let loose, but this is ODN's turf, and the ground rules have been set ;)

Carlton is going forward, so is St. Kilda. Lets just enjoy our football, eh?

Good luck in 2003 and beyond.

How can the finances and fortunes of St Hilda ever get back on track>???
They have a president who lures the messiah out of retirement, pays him a mill, sacks him half way through a season. A good honest footballer in hamill, who is way overpaid. A ruckman they cant get rid of and if they do, still may have to honour a part of his contract. Membership bout 20k and not really growing. St kilda have been gonna be's for umpteen years now and, while their may get a year Out of the box, (97), have not been a success on or off the field. Will a good year, possibly 03, see their fortunes change.....dont think so

Yeah, they're all reasonable points, I can't really argue with them - only to sort of gel out how I see things through rose-coloured glasses!

President - He's a talker. And a doer. Unfortunatly he talks a lot of bull****. Fortunatly I've never seen such a president being so pro-active for building club unity - something we've never had. I'm happy with Buttress - as long as he keeps our 15 or so kiddies at the club, gets the club making money once we get in the eight, I can't complain. I think a lot of heads will roll before his does.

Hamill - Overpaid? I thought that at first, but Hamill is an absolute brute. Spent the off-season 01 with Lenny Hayes, who really was struggling and nothing but a spectator. Now Hayes is an emerging superstar. Hamill's leadership at the club can't be measured in dollar value. On skill, Hamill is overpaid, but he's so fierce and committed, that he earns every cent. The big argument is whether he or Andrew Thompson should be captain - I've give it to the Hammer for sure.

Membership - Not growing...well...how many Vic clubs have expanding membership bases? For a club that's finished 10th, 16th, 15th and 15th, it's amazing we have as many members as we do. If we make the eight next year, we will (should!) have 26-8k members in 2004. Most St.Kilda fans are still a long way from Telstra Dome, most of our fans are in the South-East area and don't like the set-seat format...which is a crap excuse in my book. Once we start playing well, fans will come and see us, realise Docklands is a sensational venue and hopefully sign on up.

Future - It's very hard to see us not being a force by 2005. We'd probably have to lose Hayes, Kosi, Riewoldt, Hamill, Dal Santo, Clarke, Ball, Milne, Hudghton, Moyle, Begley, Baker, Beethem, Blake, Gehrig, Jones, Maguire, Oliver, Montagna, Schwarze, Black, Lawrence, Salopek, (You guys can take Wells and Goddard...PLEASE leave Salopek for us!!), etc all at once to injuries for us to miss the finals. The sooner we begin our inevitable rise, the better. Unless we find a way to accidentally blow up Moorabbin while the players are training, we'll be a top side and the sooner, the better.
