Anyone know if geelong are going to be active at all during trade week, any possible recruits?

Cats really wanted Blake Carracella last year. but couldn't get him. Don't be surprised if they go for someone old. thats purring's tip.

No folded stuff left purring unless we make some room by off loading a player or two, but hearing Bomber talk after last years trading period, don't expect him to split this group up any further.

yep. you are spot on. but I know the cats looked at every possible angle to get carracella last year. I just think that if there is a player of that type open again, and $$$ permitting. I reckon the cats will pounce.

I still doubt we are paying 100% of the cap. Also a player like Lappin or Campo might be got on the cheap if other clubs wont take them. They are mostly useless at a team with a young list.

With campo, there is a small, but worth considering chance that as he enters the twilight of the career, he might want one last shot at a flag, even if he has to take a pay cut to get it.

Having said that, campo aint that great, although he always seems to play well against us.

I can't see us doing much unless something falls in our lap amongst the desperation come Friday morning.

spot on there phat. I was talking to the director of the company I work for just before who happens to be a passionate geelong supporter and throws in a fair sum of money each year to the club, and he said he was talking to brian cook on sat'y at the races - said that there will be very minimal trade activity (if any) this year simply because we have no room left in our salary cap. any trades done won't incorporate player/s with much ($) value that is for sure.

GFC have an excellent opportunity to play 'third wheel' during this years trade period with pick 15. A lot of clubs will be needing our pick 15 (1sr round) to seal a big name player, lets use it to our advantage and see if we can get a young rather than older player....

We could also try to improve our pick 15 by adding Haynes to the offer.

This go's against the grain but in the spirit of tossing up trades here go's

Scott Camperale has walked at Blueland. He would be on reasonable dollars and we havent got much if any room in our cap. Some thought tonight he would be worth only an R2 or an R3 as he might only have a year or two left but..
What if we swap our R1 (P15) to Carl on the condition they pay a high proportion of his pay. He does have classy dispossal and he may add a dimension that we lack currently for 06 and 07. We get a player that could add some imediate class and they get a kid. Probably depends on how close we think we are and how much talent we have in the system so that we dont rob our side around 2010.

Geelong will be the vultures of trade week. No real goals but will do something if it suits them very well.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go a youngster who is lightly built and let him develop and come through slowly. Maybe come in and play a bit when injuries hit but we aren't going to get a star without breaking up the group.

On a forum on sen's website the following players have supposedly been thrown around for trade:
haynes
mccarthy
gardiner
chambers

I share the same thoughts mrfloppy. did you have a particular player in mind??

??
I don't have a particular player in mind but I'd tend to suggest that those two players - Dunn in particular are worth more than the trade bait we are willing to offer. Haynes is the one gone if we trade for someone.

Due to having to have three draft selections on draft day, I'd suggest we will only trade player or player as we don't want to be acquiring extra players that would mean we have to delist another player.

McCarthy could make an impact as could Gardiner given the right opportunities at the club.

Chambers would be a risky trade just because of his heart, although could be a liability if he starts getting chuffed at not playing much next year.

I traded for Symes - a half back flanker/ midfielder because I think that in a couple of years with your Milburns gone we might start to get a tad light in the back line. Whether Symes of Port can do that is up in the air but thats where I would be looking. Has versatility too which always comes in handy with our side.

I'm quite happy for Thompson to don the Kevin Sheedy mask and sit in the corner with the what can we do for you mentality as well.

As for the youngster, how about Rischtelli (?) from Brisbane. Lightly built wingman, strong over the footy, originally from Melbourne. Not sure how highly is he rated though....

Was a late draft pick which suggests most clubs overlooked him. Has only played a couple of games, but might be worth some thought for a 3rd or 4th rounder.

I wouldn't lose any sleep if all of them leave Geelong. But seriously if one thing has been learnt from our last 4 years is the value of keeping draft picks, using them and developing your own players. Picking up recycled hacks from other clubs is what nearly killed us under Ayres (Martin McKinnon, Scott Bamford, Simon Arnott, Brett Spinks, Tim Hargreaves, Jason Mooney off the top of my head) so I would happily see us avoid that completely. For every trade that works (Brenton Sanderson, Tom Harley) there are 10 that don't.

This could be a very likely and realistic trade, but the question is would west coast accept and would the cats get rid of charlie.

I dont think GFC would let him go, as he must be someones secret love child high up in the team, but i wouldnt lose ANY sleep over him leaving. I dont think WCE would go after him anyway
