Trades 2007

Lets grow our own. No trades needed unless they are for picks. Even then its a bit dodgy. This years draft isnt anything special.

Dont get rid of Tivendale. Hes still pretty good ffs.

How many teams scrap together a list and win a flag?

An ideal scenario would be trading Krakouer and our third round pick to Port for their second round pick & gaining Meeson or another young 21-22 year old ruckman to develop through the PSD thus not having to trade away a pick/player. That would give us 4 picks in the top 25-30 of the draft, a promising young ruckman and suddenly we would have (hopefully) added a fair bit of young talent to our already promising list of youngsters.

This is about as likely as it's going to get. Krakouer may have just enough value to be used to upgrade our 3rd round pick to Port's 2nd round pick. Also frees up a lot of salary space.

Well, which players are we talking about?

I can't see us chasing a mediocre Tiger in the belief that he will miraculously become a good player at WC.

That might be how Richmond trade, but WC are a bit more pragmatic.

These are the guys I believe that Richmond would be looking to trade who might have some currency. It would be easy to just say they all stink, but they were part of the team which almost knocked over the Eagles this season.

Greg Tivendale
Chris Hyde
Andrew Krakuoer

The guys below are players whose name probably won't hit the draft table but who I think could (should?) be used as trade bait. Not because they are no good, but because another team might find more value in them they the Tigers in the short term. I'd be happy to retain all four of them rather than cough them up for anything less than their current value to the Tigers.

Joel Bowden (very reluctant to release him as our key playmaker, but I'd love to see him in a Premiership team, late 20's now only with 4 -5 years left)

Jay Schulz (with Richo still there, Jay just can't settle into a regular forward key position)

Kayne Pettifer (would excel in a team with more quality supply, potential 50+ goalkicker. Played better without the competition of Nathan Brown for supply)

Mark Coughlan (like Rodan, Hayes and Lappin in '07 coming off a serious knee injury in '08. Foley has gone past him in his absence. Would still have to be a very special offer to lure him away)

We shouldn't be trading for any players just for improved picks, altough I would consider a Myer foe Meeson trade, but thats it

It's supposedly a shallow draft, Krakouer would be a lot more value to us improving a 3rd rounder by maybe 10 spots, rather than just getting say a 4th or 5th round pick for him, if that is a chance at all anyway.

It would be absolutly stupid to trade for a 4th or 5th round pick, we would be much bettr off just delisting him.
If the rumours are true that Port are interested in him I would go
Port>Krakouer, 3rd round pick
Richmond>2nd round pick.

Pretty fair IMO

we need a quality inside mid from the first round, a back up ruck in a trade and a tall defender either trade or draft

What would you hope to get in return for each of these guys?

Chris Hyde probably has the most value.

Gunnar, sitting on the bottom of the ladder doesn't augur well for our "trading out" prospects. Currency of individual players will always suffer due to the ineptness of the collective (eg. if Rodan hadn't gone off at the very last pick of last years' draft then it is safe to say quite literally that we couldn't give him away)

That said, these three are ready made starting 22 players, all of whom would look far, far better in a team running on top of ground. However, with the possible of exceptionon of Chris Hyde, all three have the capacity to look really ordinary in a team performing woefully.

Here are their flaws/attributes.

Tivvers (28 y.o) - Like a long lost blonde Lonie brother. Very one-sided, with the capacity to pinpoint a pass millimetre perfectly one minute, and put in onto the shoelaces of a leading forward the next. Not your hard-edged in-under, but a reasonable conversion rate from 50 and inside.

Hyde (24) - A harder version of Tivendale without the penetration. Fairly adept in traffic. Good stamina and can run the lines. Disposal can be shaky at times, but generally pretty good.

Krakuoer (24) - Possessed with brilliant heavy traffic skills. Great tackler and very good hands. No stamina - plays 1/4 of a game at full capacity and is missing for the other 3/4. Often confused with a goal sneak. He can kick them, but he's not Milne or Farmer type at all. Rarely seems to have his head completely in the game. Desperately needs a change of scenery to develop further.

I would imagine each could garner Pick 30-50 in a team that hasn't already got a Jesse Smith/Travis Cloke earmarked for their 3rd rounder. Obviously age favours the latter two. Given his age, to chase Tivendale a team would need to be confident of a genuine Premiership challenge in 2008 or he's just not worth it.

Oh, like when WC picked up Richmond's Mark Merenda?

From a Carlton perspective, Schulz and Newman would be of reasonably high interest.

Tuck would also get a nibble from us IMO.
Schulz and Tuck for Pick 4 after all you blokes are going to screw us out of Pick 1. ;)

Newman is a no go zone.

We can talk about Schulz and Tuck. :)

Wouldn't want to give too much up for those 2, but Schulz would be a good get.

Assume we end up with picks 1, 3, 19, 35, 51. Which picks/players realistically would you deem to be a fair trade with Carlton for each of Schulz and Tuck?

2 options for you to consider:
1. Schulz and Tuck for Fevola and pick 51

or

2. Schulz and Tuck for picks 19 & 35.

I said be realistic.

The 2nd trade idea is average at best-there's no way that we will get both players, and we won't give up both picks for them anyway.

The first trade is laughable.

yeah both those aren't very likely. The first being too good for richmond.

If you want tuck than a tuck for your 2nd round pick would do it. Thing is tuck is prob more valuable to the club than his market value, same as newman.

schulz, tuck and our second rounder for fev - which probably won't do carlton - but thats one way you could get the two and a good pick.

russell for either one would work for me. i really can't see richmond and carlton trading with each other. both have the same problem - lots of rocks and a very few diamonds.
