I don't think Zantuck will play in the midfield and i doubt that we will get Johnstone. But seriously what is wrong with Coughlan and Rodan in the midfield, thats where they will play the majority of the careers might as well get them in there next year. Maybe not next year but a couple of years our midfield should be Rodan, Coughlan and Schammer/Salopek depending on who we get with pick 4.
On Campbell i know he won our Best and Fairest but i reckon next year we play him across half back. Bowden, Tivendale and Fiora are all similar players left footed wingman and probably at least won of them should be traded it will probably have to be Tivendale.

tiva, bowdo, fiora

it appears to me that everyone is blaming Tivendale, Bowden, and Fiora for the teams poor performance. I don't agree!

Bowden is a great Half forward and thats where he should play.

Tivendale and Fiora are outside receivers/wingman but so what! We need players like this, every team has them, these guys could develop into two of the best.

Tivendale, Bowden, and Fiora should be kept at all costs.

The people responsible for drafting Hudson, Houlihan and Biddiscombe are at fault here.

Knights, D Kellaway, Sziller, and King are the the under achievers at this club. These guy are supposed to feed Bowden, Fiora, and Tivendale.

Frawley didn't have the best of years either.

Dear Richmond Football Club

Please Delist or Trade

King
Biddiscombe
Houlihan

They are a disgrace!

I agree with crackertiger on this one ... let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater by blaming or, dare I say it, offloading our more polished players like Tivvers, Bowdo and Fiora - I COULD envisage each of these guys as part of a premiership team.

Even the better teams of the last few years have had their fair share of "finishers" - Caracella, Blumfield, Heffernan, Lucas, Power, McCrae, N.Lappin, Notting etc ... It's just that these guys have been complemented in their respective teams by really tough midfield blokes like JohnsonX2, Misiti, Denham, Voss, Black, ScottX2 etc ...

The key is ... our more polished players need hard-nut support. It's not a disparagement to our "free-running" players to say this - it's just that it is simply not their role.

Just like it's not necessarily Richo, Staff or Otto's fault that we don't kick enough crumbing-type goals. It's simply not THEIR role ... just a bonus when they DO bag such goals.

Let's use our draft picks to pick up young, hard, in-and-under midfielders. Or trade the players that we do have that are MEANT to be playing this role, but have been deficient in doing so ... I think you all know who I mean ...

In my opinion Bowden lacks one of the fundamenal ingredients in the game ....his ability to kick to a targett. i've watched on many occasions when he is floating off half back or the wing his diposal.... quiet frankly is poor . The only position that i'd like to see him in,is as a forward

The prospect of trading him dosn't concern me and im sure that another club would more then consider him. As for Tivendale and Fiora, well i think they are still developing and should be kept.

Despite the fact that vardys tall, he should also go and along with some hard nuts in the middle we need to develop or find another ready made replacement down back.

I wasn't blaming Fiora, Tivendale and Bowden for our poor form, I was just suggesting we could maybe afford to trade one of them as they might have some trade value. I believe one could be expendable because they are all pretty similar players left-footed wingman. If we want to try and trade for one established hard midfielder then lets face it we won't get one by trading King, Vardy or Biddiscombe.

I agree with you on Bowden mellowyellow, for someone who is such a good kick he misses the target so often which becomes frustrating. I also like the idea of playing him across half-forward which someone else suggested earlier in the thread.

No one is suggesting that, however certain players will be axed, traded etc .. not all will agree on who, but be in no doubt there will be changes .

midfielders not in the draft or trades

Does anyone Know of any other midfielders who might make the
grade who are not at an existing afl club or new afl recruits.

ie: VFL,SAFL, and WAFL etc.

I've watched an 18-year-old kid at Gisborne in the Bendigo League this year - Matt Fitzgerald. This year he finished second in the League best-and-fairest, and he was BOG on Grand Final day in the Gisborne premiership team. He played one game with Essendon's VFL team, but did not get much of a go, and was an integral part of the Calder Cannons premiership team in 2001. Looks and plays very much like a young Buddha Hocking ... The only problem is his lack of height, but it didn't really stop Hocking now did it ....

Just one from left field there for you .....

Interesting... Beck managed to pluck Steve McKee directly out of the Country Leagues (Myrtleford) though he didn't play with Murray Bushrangers because he had to help out on the farm or some such bollocks and couldn't make it to training.

The question may be asked why Fitzgerald wasn't drafted in the first place and why isn't he playing in the VFL. It would be a big call trying to recruit someone from a 3rd tier league.

Played second fiddle to Dave Rodan at the Cannons, CJ. Has bulked up tremendously in the last 12 months by the looks of him, and has really responded to the coaching of Mick McGuane.

I can also tell you he made Aaron James' look pretty darn good (no mean feat !!!) by pumping footy after footy onto his chest during the half dozen or so games I saw this season ....

1st of all im a North Melbourne supporter and am very good mates with The Houlihans, and Ty Zantuck..... now in order for Ricmond to be successfull they need to have a goal not what Wayne fairy Campbell said (i want a premiership) because everyone knows that is not going to happen in the next 5 years, even 8 years.
Be realistic with the goals that you set, make wise decisions on draft day, make the right decisions in trade week, etc, etc
Delisted or Traded : Craig Biddiscombe, Clinton King, Kayne Pettifer (what a sissy) Royce Vardy (cant even kick 50) Matthew Rogers, Greg Tivendale, Duncan Kellaway (is finished) Hilton should be considered for trade, what just because he put his body on the line against David Neitz it makes him hee man??? have a look at Nick Daffy, he did it in last years semi final against Carlton and that didnt help him retain his spot on the list.

Ezra Poyas should be given moregame time cos this boy can play, his kicking is pretty good. Maybe rebounding flanker.
Put it this way In all honesty Richmond dont really have and what you wouldcall tough and initimidating players..... Campbell: fairy........ Bowden: gets the ball 25 times a game but for a guy who can kick 55 metres he friggen does these little crappy 10 metre chip kicks, and then receives it back to make his stats go up, ive noticed that he plays on alot also from the kick ins ...... yeah thats fair enough but if u play on dont kick it only 10 metres :\ i reckon he is stat hungry to make himself look good

Greg Tivendale doesnt do enough and at least Bowden receives.... this guy doesnt do anything, too lazy.
Clinton King: Just gets brushed off the ball like a bit of ****, has some potential but too slow and too skinny.
Biddiscombe was unlucky after doing his knee because he was doing alright up until then, but will get his marching orders.
Fiora: has real talent, but hears footsteps, Rogers had his 2 or 3 reasonable seasons, his time is up at tigerland.... frawley may keep him one more year but i doubt it.
Cameron needs to recapture his sprakling 2001 form... i waswrapped to see him playing good footy last year but i guessage caught up with him thisyear and when the team is playing pathetic i suppose you cant kill it, as we saw with nearly the whole richmond squad.
Ray Hall is developing into a good player but will take time with the likes of ottens and stafford there... will he ever be a ruckman?
Vardy looks like a dud, acts like a dud and shouldnt be in richmonds 2003 plans seriously, usewant tough players not sissys like him and alot of other fringe players.
A few trade deals i would be looking at could be: Torney to Adelaide in return for Daniel Schell and a draft pick? or Evan Hewitt and a draft pick.
Tivendale and 2nd round pick to Adelaide in return for Kane Johnson. Clinton King to Fremantle in return for Andrew Shipp.

Royce Vardy to Sydney in return for Heath James? injury prone but have given him big wraps in defense.... or perhaps someone like Rowan Warfe? Brett Kirk... cos u wont get much.

Matt Rogers to Brisbane in return for Craig Bolton.
Duncan Kellaway to Western Bulldogs in return for Patrick Bowden? Rory Hilton To Kangaroos in return for Shannon Watt.
Mind you these are just made up trades but i think some would be more than handy assets to the Richmond football club, with the players i have selected as possibilities to be traded.. the players who were mentioned to be traded by the other clubs were the best ones i could think of for the fact that Richmonds arent that crash hot :|
Cheers. any thoughts just private message me ok?

I have read all the posts and I can only see that a few things have been over looked this year from a player point of view.

We did lose a few players that exposed others (holland, richo). And a few players who were injured who did their recuperation on the field because we were short of seniors.

The fact of the matter is that Richmond had a **** year on the field, and pointing the finger at a couple of individuals that were not high profile this year is not the way to go.

Bowden - No, he did not have the impact this year. No one else did either.

Tivendale - His goal kicking let him down, that was the major flaw in his game. I cant argue with his form.

Matty Rogers - Has played as well as he did 2 years ago, he could be tradeable because of his age. But still good service, not as much impact as he did.

Clinton King - Had frustrating year with injuries. But another year of that and he has the door. May be tradeablet this year.

Rory Hilton - Great service the year before, he gets injured everyone wants the knife out for him. He has earned another year due to his marked improvement since coming to Richmond.

Houlihan - Probably tradeable.

And remember we have had retirees.

And one other thing, I have been to enough VFL matches to know that Ezra Poyas may have trouble cracking a AFL game consistently. He has a lot of problems sometimes coming up to VFL standard which I find a little worrying. (Yes, I know he won the VFL B&F last year, but this year he has been diabolical at times, hope he gets some form back.)

Just seems to me that a thinly vailed attack on Richmond's tradeables by another teams supporter is fairly typical fare in Bigfooty.
