In today's Herald Sun the following trade was suggested:

Steven Armstrong and pick #29 to West Coast for Ashley Hansen.

Personally I think this a decent idea but we wouldn't need to use pick #29 to get this deal.

A much more realistic deal would be Armstrong and pick #45 for Hansen.

Hansen is a very good KPP prospect and has kicked a fair few goals this season when given a chance. Being a Victorian stuggling for chances at the Eagles, IMO he would thrive returning to Victoria and playing as Melbourne's 3rd tall up forward. Hansen is 21 years old, 198cm and 96kg - very similar to Holland. Only difference is he can run, jump and kick.

Surely he would be a better option that Holland.

It was also stated in the Herald Sun that Essendon is going to go all out for a quality midfielder in the upcoming trade period. Scott Thompson, Cameron Bruce and Chris Heffernan were mentioned as possible targets.

IMO we would never do a deal with Essendon regarding Thompson or Bruce as the Bombers would only try and screw us over.

Heffernan on the other hand I would look to trade as he's chances at Melbourne appear to be very limited in 05 and beyond withthe imminent emergence of Sylvia, McLean and Bell.

If we can get something decent for Heffernan I would jump at the opportunity as I have never been a fan of his.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

we must not give essendon bruce. let essendon suffer, and see them produce their quality midfielders out of stanton bullen and nlm. bruce we have born and breed, and he has become the player he is because of melbourne. he wants more than 350 grand a year... akermanis doesn't even get that! i wouldn't mind seeing us in a 3 way trade with west coast and adeliade. would love to get judd in our midfield. trade thompson and rivers to adeliade and receive judd from west coast?

I said we wouldn't trade Bruce or Thommo to Essendon so where did you get that idea?

As for trading Rivers and Thommo for Judd? HELL NO (in African-American mans voice)!!!!

What do you think of the Hansen proposed trade?
 
I for one would like to have Armstrong in the Blue and Gold and think that the offer of Hansen and pick 29 would be about right. With the draft supposedly being really thin this year, Pick 29 is going to be a real gamble anyway so I wouldn't place too much value in the pick.

If the draft is going to be fairly thin then I guess Armstrong and pick #29 for Hansen would be a good deal for both clubs as I would love Ash to replace Ben "Crazy Dutch Bastard" Holland.

With that being said I rate Arma pretty high and it would be a pity to let him go but we certainly need another tall forward option with the uncertainty around Nick Smith's development.

If we could get Haddrill for Armstrong I would be over the moon.

Glass for Armstrong would still be good too.

Both would be 99% unlikely IMHO.

Essendon won't get Thompson or Bruce, both them offers made are crap.

Agrre with you there..

except the glass deal, west coast would take that..

to get haddrill, something wolud need to be added, probaly the likes of smith..

Would be touch and go.

I'm a big fan of Haddrill but Smith is a good prospect. Would most likely do it with that being said.

Any word on Ash Hansen and Andrew McDougall?

Thing is Cupido has skills and showed a lot in 03.

Would prefer him to Heff anyway - but that's just my own opinion.

He might have the skills but Cupido is proving that he hasn't the Mental toughness to cut it as a consistent performer at Afl level.

With that being said I would pick him over Heffernan anyday with the Melbourne list as it is at present.
 
We definately need to look for some tall defenders, preferably young ones. Both Fremantle and West Coast have an abundance of trees in their land, so hopefully we can use Armstrong as trade bait.

I haven't heard anything yet, just going by the "Channel 10 said", "SEN said", etc... comments. If they are true, then it makes me very sad. It's not fair, but then again I'm sure we will be compensated well.
 
Why do people want to get rid of Heff for he had an all right year. And if we lose Thompson or Bruce we can't really afford to trade Heff.
 
I think Bruce is ok but he isnt in the top 15 Midfielders in the League, imo.

I think Melbourne needs a KPP and Scotty Lucas at 26 is a proven winner forward or back. He can kick 50goals a season or hold down a key defensive post.

Scott Lucas in a direct swap for Bruce would seem more than fair but then you guys probably rate Bruce higher than all other clubs. Has he done much before this year?

The player I would love to get my hands on would be Rivers - cant believe a few Dee's fans have thrown his name up as trade bait.

Who has thrown Rivers up as trade bait? Haven't seen it mentioned once.

Sure you can have him for Lloyd and J.Johnson.
