I take Spencer White or Josh Simpson for our Pick 29

Definitely agree on this, for pick 29!!

Name: Josh Simpson
Position: Midfielder/Forward
Age (by draft day): 18
Height: 184cm
Weight: 72kg
Quick Notes on Josh Simpson

  • Lightning quick
  • Kicks goals
  • Hard to tackle
  • Great acceleration
  • Uses the football well
  • Will attack the footy and the man as required
  • Dual sided
  • Slight build
Josh Simpson in detail

Josh Simpson will be rated very differently from club to club, which makes it hard to get a read on where he will get drafted.
Simpson’s evasiveness is probably his biggest strength, he has that rare combination of acceleration and agility which makes him dangerous in any situation. Once he gets himself outside of the contest his ability to use the football also shines.

Can you imagine the pace in the future of the Hawthorn team with the likes of Hill, Anderson and Simpson running around!

I'm sure Buddy's kicking for goal would look superb if you made a 5 minute of goals that he's kicked and overlooked any behinds.

Which is exactly what they've done with this kid.

True!!! But you've got to admit the kid's got some nice moves in that short vid!!

Well yes, but name a kid who hasn't looked good in their highlights video pre-daft.

Dear Mr or Mrs Simpson.

We get it. You think we should draft Josh.

Please stop posting the same thing over and over again in this and every other thread.

Sincerely.

When will we be announcing delistings? Or have we done all the culling that we need to for this year?

If we are to announce things then here is a list of dates, it can still drag on for another 6 weeks of tweaking before our list is finalised for next year but would imagine unless there is something unforeseen then the delistings will take place in the next 2 days. Noticed quite a few clubs are taking heavily to their rookie lists, wonder if we will follow suit:

Wednesday, October 31 - List Lodgement One.

Thursday, November 1 - Commencement of Gillette AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period.

November 13, 2pm - End to Gillette AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period and Out of Contract Listed Player Draft Nomination Deadline, New Player Draft Nomination Deadline. Deadline for Nomination of any use of 2012 GWS Giants Compensation Selections.

Thursday, November 15 - List Lodgement Two.

Friday, November 16, 2pm - Delisted Player Draft Nomination Deadline, Non-Retained Rookies Draft Nomination Deadline, Nominated of Queensland Zone Priority Selections and Nomination of NSW/ACT Zone Priority Selections.

Thursday, November 22 - NAB AFL Draft, Gold Coast Convention Centre.

Friday, November 23 - Second Gillette AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period commences.

Wednesday, November 28, 5pm - Second Gillette AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period ends. Out of Contract Listed Players Nomination Deadline, International Players Nomination Deadline, Players Not Registered / Played Three Years Deadline, NSW Scholarship and International Scholarship Players Deadline.

Thursday, November 29, 2pm - List Lodgement Three.

Tuesday, December 4, 2pm - Delisted Player Nomination Deadline.

Tuesday, December 11, 11am - NAB AFL Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts.

Cruize Garlett, wasn't he touted as the indigenous Greg Williams? Which is odd, because I think Williams was aboriginal. . .

Anyway he's available. Thoughts?

It is interesting that few players they we were supposedly interested in over the last few years, have been delisted and are available. After selecting the best midfielder with our first pick, I think are next 3 picks are in round 4, which we can pick at least one, maybe more of these guys. It all depends whether we see them being better than any other guys on our list, who do we delist or do we put them on rookie list. Matt campbell, bate, gillies, joel tippett. We could still go for another young guy depending on depth.

I think he is keen to go back west, so will be interesting if we do go for him.

He's a solid guy to bring in as back-up.

hardly ever post just read. A friend whois always right with inside news says Mtahew Cambell from North will be a Hawk next year. Was seen having coffvee with Ratts tonight.

With some of the talk that Grimley may be in line for the chop in the next two day I went back and had a look at the 2009 draft to see if any names pop out that we may of missed out on. Only two jump out at me one is Ben Stratton and we got him:thumbsu: and the other is Allen Christensen taken with the very next pick by Geelong. Does anyone know who we may of drafted if say Sydney had taken Grimley with the pick before ours?(This would throw Sam Reid's name into the mix as well)

Well the fact that we picked Grimley indicates we were after a ruckman, so had Grimley been taken before our pick, I assume we would have selected Nathan Vardy.

hahhaa oh man...

Well yes, but name a kid who hasn't looked good in their highlights video pre-daft.
While I agree that all kids look good in their highlights video. White can do some amazing things for his size. Like I have said too he is inconsistent but when he is on he is very, very good. When he is off he can look quite ordinary. If we could get the best out of him though I have no doubt he could become a freak in future.

I just realised, if Adelaide lose their first pick as punishment for their salary cap breach, our pick 29 goes back to being pick 28. 68 and 72 would become 65 and 69 if they were to also lose their second and third picks. Essentially losing no(less) ground in the Anderson-Gilham trade and Spangher trade.

Scotts slightly older brother.

Id like Hawthorn to take him on as a rookie, looks to be a ready made AFL player in waiting and would be great for that bit of depth down back, which we have recently lost (Gilham/Murphy).

Has anyone seen much of his game to give us an insight?
I don't really see where he'll fit in at AFL level. KP sized for VFL level but (IMHO) not big enough to do that at the top level, and not quite good enough or fast enough to play half back etc.
He *might* be good enough to be a straight replacement for a Murphy as that mid-sized stopper, but (with Cheney still around) is that anything that anyone actually needs?

Another 4-5cm and he'd be looked at (like Pedersen & Boumann & Markovic etc) but I just think he's one of those guys that falls between the cracks a bit.

Then there's the Melbourne tanking investigation. If this keeps up, we may end up with the first pick in the draft!! :D

Go us!!
