Nah.. what about:
Poppy into the back pocket, Birch up on to the wing, Young out of the side and Ossie into the forward pocket.

So the team is this (assuming everyone is fit):
B: Poppy Lake Goo
HB: Stratts Schoey Gibbo
C: Birch Hodge Smith
HF: Gunner Buddy Breust
F: Rioli Roughy Ossie
Ruck: Hale Mitchell Sewell
Int: Suckers Lewis WhiteX Burgers Sav (need to figure that out, help?)

From GF:
In: Ossie Goo WhiteX Lake
Out: Young Ellis ? ?

WhiteX will miss a good chuck of the season proper so that probably forces your hand.

Assuming WhiteX was fit, he would be in the starting 21 as would Lewis and Burgers so I guess it would be a contest between Suckling and Sav for sub.
But I'm still not sure of having Ossie in the best 22.

I don't like the backline, it lacks pace and creativity.

For Pup its defensive forward or bust, something was wrong with him in the last quarter of this season, his form and defensive pressure was seriously down from the first to mid half of the season.

If we're moving Birchall from the back half to the wing, then he will have to be replaced, a like for a like. (someone that can provide pace and creativity)

I'd be setting up

B:Guerra Lake Stratts
HB:Burgoyne Shoey Gibbo.
C: Birch Mitch Smith

Push Birch up on the wing?

OUT: Young
IN: Ossie
I don't know what everyone's fascination is with Birchall on a wing. Yes, he runs all day but his defensive work is some of the best at Hawthorn if not the league. I would much rather have Birch down back and push Suckling to a wing but instead of Puopolo down back, kick him out of the 22 and play Cheney in Suckling's HBF

The thing about Birch is that because he's such a quality player teams are now isolating him on the last line of defence....he's too good of a player to be out of the play for long periods of time (such as The GF and prelim)......with the addition of Lake I think we are set for big bodies in the back half (a combination of Hodge and Burgoyne rotating from the middle to the back half can cover him)....a combination of his run through the middle, big body around the stoppages and the contest along with his delivery in the forward half IMO will be invaluable.

Agree that Birch is too valuable to be moved from the back half. He's the prototype back flanker, fast, tall, hard as nails, good defensively, great disposal. Not many areas he's lacking in and would have to be one of the most valuable backmen in the comp. In a perfect world we'd have another Birch to put on the wing. Actually, scratch that. One on a wing and 2 in the backline.

But with Lake coming in, Suckling will probably push up to a wing or HF more. And maybe some forward time for Burgers? My ideal set up would be

FB - Gibson - Lake - Stratton
HB - Birch - Schoe - Guerra

Suckling off the bench and burgers rotating

Notice how teams were able to do this once Goo went down

I actually really like that idea :thumbsu:

And the bolded part is true which is made me weary of suggesting Birch going to the wing before now.

Does West Coast have anything we want?

Gilham > St.K

Cripps > WC

??? > Hawthorn

Pick 41 a bit cheap for Gilham?

It was happening at times before that also.......Guerra was taking the best small forward most weeks, Not sure how that has a connection with Birchall.

Dont base it on the sh*t to mediocre teams we play......the top teams are making a strategic effort of taking him out of the play.

A bit cheap....you do realize he can walk to the PSD for free.....anything below pick 50 is an absolute win for us.

It would be interesting to know whether we have offered Gilham a 1 year contract? or is he just leaving.....

You are correct, if anything is on the table for 3WBC's number 1 special comments man we have to take it, but I can imagine that clubs know Gilham can just got to the PSD for free so our hands are tied.

Losing Gilly and Murphy will definately hurt our defensive depth....but it would be in the their best interests to leave and continue their career elsewhere where they get gametime.

Anything....anything for Gilham and we will be happy, it will be laughable if we lose Gilham and Young (p'ship players) and Murphy for pick 62......

So apparently toy has asked to be traded to a victorian team and the front runners are essendon, doggies and us.

Pick 41 a bit cheap for Gilliam?

I quite like the sound of that and it could actually happen as Saints need a defender and could be forced to pay overs to ensure they beat GWS to his signature. The danger is that Gilham will go to GWS for nothing via the PSD so pick 41 would be a very good get for a 29 year old. We basically traded a similar pick to get Lake.

Toy is interesting. Don't think he would get a regular spot in our backline but his condition puts big question marks over his midfield abilities. Talented kid but depending on the severity of his heart condition (heard various things) it may be a very high risk proposition

I have no idea about his heart condition, but I assume all suitors will have access to his medical records that Marcus Ashcroft referred to and HFC will subject him to a full medical focusing on the heart condition also.

Just an FYI, elite sportsman can play with heart conditions, Chris Gayle is one of them

Does anyone know what Gold Coast are likely to be asking for Toy?

He was incredibly highly rated as a teenager only to under-perform at AFL level. Then there is the heart issue which we're told is not an issue at all. If i had to guess I would say that theyd expect something in the mid to late 20's for him. Fair to say?

I may be wrong but I don't think we would part with pick 28 for him and Gilham plus pick 65 would likely be unders.

Gilham and picket 28 for Toy and pick 37?

Thoughts?
