I was keen on Nate Jones this year, not sure on next year.

He's a pure clearance mid, we may as well develop Ollie for that.

Nate jones....Yeah i am dreaming

Haha, I've always been curious to see how he goes in a decent midfield. Last year was his best year, but I noticed that in almost every Melbourne game I saw, he was receiving the hospital handpass right before getting crunched by the opposition. Surely he'd be untouchable at Melbourne.. but maybe he'd wanna leave if they don't improve this year...

We sound like supporters last year who were assuming all our players would leave :)

I would like to see a 1st round draft pick at the value that Watts is at now at Port, he could easily do Bobby's job down back who could provide that running fullback that Bobby doesn't do, and read the play.....

Trade Bobby for Watts......

The most similar player to Watts on our list is Westhoff. I think similar to the way Hinkley is playing Westhoff, getting Watts to follow the ball and keep him involved would be the best way of managing him.

I don't think Watts is cut out to be a full back, just doesn't have the mongrel - regardless, it would be a waste of his foot skills.

I wouldn't have watts before Westhoff or bobby that run up the middle that bobby did last week then laid that bump was awesome I reckon we'll be seeing a lot more of that to come!!!

I for one wouldn't be against recruiting Watts.

Having to move interstate and then having to train under Hinkley would be a rocket enough up his arse imo.

Agree. I mean what parent would want their son going to Melbourne to learn? Seriously though I would take Watts, especially if he's available for a second rounder. The new Dees coach will probably have other ideas.

The dream factory - I would throw the bank at Jon Patton. Will be a monster forward.

I haven't seen any evidence that Watts is the kind of player Hinkley would be seeking out.

On current form Lycett might come without much fight from West Coast. Would be a punt given what he's shown (or hasn't shown) so far though.

With all the talk about Watts, everybody seems to have forgotten about Sam Blease also getting dropped. Highly rated junior, taken at pick 17 in his draft year. Lightning quick midfielder with decent skills. Doesn't find enough of the ball yet but that could come in time. Would definitely be one worth looking like IMO if he gets sick of sitting in the VFL while inferior players get a game ahead of him.

If Mitchell doesn't prove himself as a best 21 player before the end of the year, I'd love to add somebody like Blease or Polec (but not both) to our side. It would add the missing ingredient of line-breaking speed that would be very handy in our midfield mix.

Agree against us....he gave them at something his speed was evident

i definately see that big pack contest forward as a need for port going forward.

i love those players in the game and looking at the way we enter the forward line now with shultz there as opposed to how we went in when ebert was our go-to guy it is our single most important position. i actually think shultz is ports most important player at the moment.

i never want to go back to playing the kind of footy we played when we didnt have a competitive forward to kick to anymore.

unfortunately no-one is going to trade us one of those so we have to look to the draft.

this year boyd looks the goods and if he makes it to us i hope we grab him. but i reckon he will go top 2-3.

other options i am keen to watch come champs are conlon 197cm vic metro boy and hourigan 191.5 south aussie key forward.

I am not overly enamoured by any trades or drafts atm.
The only thing i hope for is that Port have completely rejuvenated the processes they use to pin point and select players coming to Alberton!
This to me is the single most important process of any club get it wrong and you will go down quick!
I hope KH and co know what they want and recruit aggressively to those needs.

Hinkley wants players with intensity and hardness - Watts doesn't provide those characteristics.

Conlon's apparently very good, but very skinny. There aren't many key forwards that have a slight build that manage to be consistent enough to be worth a very high draft pick - Sam Reid and Jeremy Cameron (who are both a lot stronger than they look) are the two I would give up a top 10 pick for then there's Westhoff and Vickery who when played as solely key forwards are pretty inconsistent, but go better when allowed to roam and then theres guys like Watts, Grant who really struggled to deal with the physicality of the AFL. Obviously you would look to build him up, but as you see with some guys, it just isn't possible, I'd be wary.
