Todays training session marked the 1st day of full season work as the pre-season stuff has now concluded.

Training was scheduled for a 2:30pm start on max basheer but without notice it started in the Wespac Centre as they would on game day by completing roughly a half hour warm up. This also caught out all the camera crews that were setup on the oval awaiting the players.

The warm up was quite different inside the centre looking down over the players. Most of it was very up-beat as we draw towards the season and selection thursday arvo.
The boys were very sharp in the drills hitting targets and running hard to create options both attacking and defensive.
The drill that stood out the most was the squad were split in 2 (green Vs Blue) and they would go head to head 5 on 5 at a time. It was a end to end on the shed floor where the teams had to move the ball by hand without it hitting the floor or getting tackled by the opponents. the teams of 5 had roughly 90 seconds while on the floor then would swap over.
Scoring was by handballing the footy to a coach inside 1 metre wide goal.
This went on for a little while but to change things up, over the sound system was loud crowd noises to simulate a match enviroment. This would help the players talk and listen better.

After the warm up the players put on the boots and headed to Max Basheer.
This is where alot of match day stuff took place.
For most of the session the squad were once again split in half but this was the A team V the rest. Most of the A team are who we all expect to field our best team included the likes of Danger, Walker, Maric, Sellar. Some surprises in the seconds were Davis, McKernan, Sloane, Cook, Armstrong and Radar.
Alot of work was the teams working on kick out plays and stoppages inside a defensive 50. Both teams swapping roles by learning to clear the ball in different ways and also applying hard forward pressure.
The B team set kicker from the goal square was mainly Armstrong while the A team swapped between Goody, Danger and Dogga. All the players hitting targets with ease.

Thanks for that Chief. :thumbsu:

Interesting that they're simulating crowd noise, maybe the players struggled with communicating in the semi-final once Collingwood got on a roll.

That was my favourite drill this whole offseason when I saw it in their first ever shed training session (open to public), would of liked to of been there today to of seen it but I thought the times had changed from now and there wasnt training today

eh, I was watching the Superbowl anyway, so wouldnt of made it there

Don't know about pool noodles, but the crowd noise in my opinion is vital and I'm surprised they don't do it more often. The Crows put so much emphasis on voice in their drills, but what use is voice if you're not hearing it over 50,000 screaming fans? You have to get used to hearing the right voice over the noise and dealing with the effect of sheer sound.

Thanks Chief, I was hoping we'd see a training report today :) Does anyone know what time/where they are training on Thursday?

Of the players in teh B squad the only one I find surprising is Reilly. No way Craigy is going to give away which of the new guys will play in round one or even the NAB cup, that's his game.

Davis SLoane and McKernan are all likely to play in the NAB - or maybe not;)

Thanks for the report Chief.

I just want to thank everyone for their training reports over the past few months. Your efforts have made the off/pre-season (almost) bearable for those of us that cant make it.

Im sure the supporters of other clubs are very jealous of the in depth reports we get each week. Not to mention the photos as well.

Thanks everyone :thumbsu:

Now they are into game season mode so training times and days have changed. Mondays on either Max Basheer or aami, fridays on Max Basheer. Wednsday arvos in aami but more then likely closed sessions.

Just going by the B&F reilly in the B Team isn't that much of a surprise.

I was actually thinking that about all the names listed.

What im more interested in is how many players per team were out there

15 vs 15
or do we actually have enough fit players for 18 vs 18

Mondays training session had the defenders, midfield/rucks and forwards split up at one point to work on specialised drills.

The defensive group had 4 small (dogga, Pup, Goody,Stiffy) 5 tall (Philthy, Truck, Stevo, Sells, Youngy). This is the group I paid most attention too as they were doing the drills closest to me.

Of note Bunji was with the midfield group during this time.

Forwards had Knighta, Tex, Birdman, Tippo, Gunner, Douggy, Rowdy, Smack, Jacky, Talia.

The rest were doing stoppage work

Off the top of my head the A team was made up from Burton, Danger, Dogga, Douggy, Zooma, Goody, Rowdy, Stiff, Knights, D mac, Maric, Macca, Truck, Sellar, Stevens, Thomo, Tippo, Vince, Tex.
Thats 19 players
