The boys really stepped up their intensity at training today preparing for Sundays matches. Heath Black was among those spectating. I overheard Barra say he thought it was the best training session of the year and they didn't have the cameras there to capture the footage.

Roberton appeared to suffer an ankle injury early in the session and didn't return to the track. It didn't look like there was much in it, so hopefully it's just a lightly sprained ankle injury.

Hill, Fyfe & McPhee didn't train with the main group, that suggests maybe they will miss Sundays matches. Hill and de Boer ran a few laps and joined the squad for some light kicking drills before hitting the bikes and gym. With de Boer kicking it makes it hard to believe the reports of a hamstring injury from last week. Hill has a slight limp, there's something still bothering him.

Mellington continues to impress, he has a decent body size and doesn't back away from the contest. His disposal is first class. I think we have a real player in this kid.

After Roberton went down today, there were just 28 players left in the main group, so they look like the 28 players that will be selected for the weekend. They are:

Anthony, Bollenhagen, Bradley, Broughton, Clarke, Crichton, Crowley, Duffield, Faulks, Griffin, Grover, Ibbo, Johnson, Mayne, McPharlin, Mellington, Mundy, Mzungu, Palmer, Pavlich, Sandilands, Schammer, Silvagni, Suban, Van Berlo, Bucovaz, Lower & Pearce

Thanks n77.
Surprised McPhee may be out - thought he was 'training the house down'.
Has he picked up a niggle maybe?

There wasn't anything noticeably wrong with him from what I could see, so maybe it's just part of his individual plan. We'll soon see when they name the side on Thursday.

Wonder why Fyfe didn't train with the main group. Can't wait for Sunday, i got good seats. :thumbsu:

How did Ibbo look? I'm toying with the idea of putting him in my dream team. I think he is primed for a big year.

So much for Schammer's thigh strain!

Any sign of Michie?

I was thinking the same about Schammer. It's hard to believe a lot of the things that are written about Freo these days unless it comes directly from the club. Schammer is still trying as hard as ever.

I didn't notice Michie, but that isn't to say that he wasn't out there. I'm still familiarising myself with all the new faces, so I apologise if I missed him.

I couldn't see anything wrong with Fyfe. They may just be wrapping him up in cotton wool.

Ibbo trained strongly, but wasn't a stand out for mine.

Why you would even joke about that after our awful injury luck in the pre season I will never know!:thumbsd:

This.

cannot wait for this sunday- even though its only the NAB.
What jumpers do you reckon they'll wear considering we've worn our clash strip in the nab cup previously. im guessing our away strip so as to not clash with west coast.

Just quietly watch for palmer to tear it up this sunday- he has a point to prove that hes an A grade midfielder

Pretty difficult to balance the 18 on the ground from this group. Lots of talls, too few runners. Lucky the opposition is going to be pitiful. Sorry to upset a couple of you with a throwaway line re Roberton. Harves will cheer you up tomorrow when he comes out and says he's only being rested.

We can do our part on here to clear Roberton (or any player for that matter) from injury just by creating a separate thread about a 'rumoured injury' . We then simply let the post build up in hits until we manage to troll a hack journo who runs with the alleged injury rumour... to be followed by the club releasing a press conference the next day clearing the player of any concerns and boost moorale for all us on here :thumbsu::p

What was that about Robertons ACL? I heard he could miss the entire season.

I think I was watching channel 7 news last night and they said Freo had a very intense training session and there were 4 injuries including Pav with a cut to the head (Obviously wouldn't keep him out). Roberton must have been another.

Any idea who the other 2 were?

There's an article about it here.

Matthew Pavlich required stitches above one eye, Jay van Berlo received a corked leg and Chris Mayne also took a heavy knock

Looking further, towards round one of the home-and-away season, there was better news with Stephen Hill (shin) and Hayden Ballantyne (foot) completing strong running sessions to stay on track for games later in the pre-season.

Shin splints for Stephen Hill!!

If thats the worst I'll be v. happy:)

From experience shin splints are very painful and can take a long time to get over. Typically assocaited with growing. By the sounds of it they are improving if he is running, but they can come and go through the season if not managed properly.

As I mentioned in another thread last week, I was told Hill has been battling very severe shins splints. Hopefully they can manage it correctly and get him back to full fitness asap.

personally, i had pretty bad shin splints last year for practically the whole year. it is extremely painful but u can eliminate the pain by taking anti inflamatry tablets. of course u wouldnt want to live on anti inflamatry's for obvious reasons so training hurts a bit but for game day id start taking tablets from 10am in the morning and in total about 6 for the day and would feel zero pain during games. not sure if that is an option?????
on a lighter note, monday was my first training for the year and the boys looked super but not quite as good as the sexy blonde hanging around as well. top marks.......anyone else spot her??? :D

Are anti inflammatories like your codein sort of drugs? If so, I dunno how you'd play while on them. I've worked while on those things, and it's like your walking on a cloud, not so much high, but the dopey factor definately goes up.

yeah muff, it is like a bit of a downer but nothing a couple of nodoze cant fix.....plus wen u smell the smell of the changerooms and u get the leather in ur hands nothing can stop u...

Definately NOT like Codeine... I'm pretty sure that Codeine is a banned subst for high performance athletes.

Anti-inflams just rot your gut if you take them on a prolonged basis... they certainly increase your risk of bruising / bleeding. Not ideal for a contact sport...
