Hey folks,

I am taking my son to his first and second games at the MCG next week. ANZAC Day followed by the Richmond game. We come from the ACT so we've been to the SCG to see the Pies a few times and we saw them play pre-season at Manuka this year.

I hoped they would do a fan day in ACT this year so my son could meet some of his heroes but alas it was a fly-in fly-out job and wasn't a thing.

We are hoping to get to a training session between ANZAC Day and the Richmond game on Sunday. At ths stage http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/season/training-times only shows times/dates of training prior to ANZAC day.

Is there likely to be an open training we can attend? How does an open training usually work? Do you just show up at the Holden Centre and hang out around the fence? Will my son likely have a chance to get some autographs? An other info you can provide would be greatly welcomed!

Thanks!

EDIT: We are interstate members. In case that makes a difference!

Not sure RE open training between the Bombers and Tigers games, the quick turnaround may mean they dont have one.

As an alternative though, if you head to the games earlier than when all the regular events are happening (might need to be a fair bit earlier for ANZAC day as they have about an hour worth of Pre-game stuff), a few players are usually out kicking the ball around and are usually happy to sign some stuff round the boundary and get some photos. Depends on where your sitting and stuff but if you get there earlier enough its usually not an issue. The Richmond game is probably your best bet as you dont need to contend with the rest of the ANZAC day festivities.

Not quite as good as open training but if its confirmed its not on atleast its something. If open training is on they pretty much do everything you've asked for (Photos, signings etc...). They do all that stuff usually at the end of training.

Good in theory - But coming from the ACT that's just not going to happen. We'll more than likely just have a footy (To get signed) and be kicking it to each other when my son's eyes aren't poking out of his head seeing all of his heroes up close!

Given the HC is open to the public, all sessions are open so it's just a question of if they schedule training. Given ANZAC day is the Wednesday I'd have assumed that as per normal they'd still have a light run Friday morning, just to blow some cobwebs. Imagine they'll do the StKilda beach thing Thursday morning.

Players are all pretty cool.. if you call em over.. they'll be more than happy to sign autographs for ya.

He'll be rapped.

It is great fun to see the boys at training. I hope your son enjoys himself.

I go occasionally, and recall one recent session when a young boy who was watiching kept saying to his father 'Is that really Pendles, Dad?' 'Is that really Grundy?' Was pretty funny, but a reminder of how important some of these guys are to the kids. They are God like!
