As opposed to * a few years ago!The boys are all looking very lean this pre season.
Yup it's incredible the difference it makes having somebody ensuring every player is set up exactly where they need to be.I could be wrong but pretty sure I have heard Clarkson say in the past that Hodge makes his job a lot easier given Hodges ability to coach and take control of the team on field.
I know the coaching staff feel the team is 2-3 goals better off just by having Hodge out there whether he plays well or not.
or lift a knee...Yup it's incredible the difference it makes having somebody ensuring every player is set up exactly where they need to be.
I think hodge is great tactically but maybe not so great at strategy. So he knows how to setup at a stoppage, or kick-in and he always knows when to kick or handball, tackle or corral, go left or right, leave his man or stay with him. He can see plays unfolding quicker than others that allows him to despite being the slower than other players to time his run perfectly and intercept a kick.
But in terms of coming up with a whole ground game plan and innovating the way the game is played, that abillity is yet to be tested. Mitchell has shown more evidence of an understanding of strategic plans like who to tag, using positional changes and exploiting teams weakness and utilizing our strength.
They are two vastly different skills, one is chess the other is boxing. Putting together a plan 3-4 moves ahead vs taking the open punches, watching the shoulder drop and knowing to duck and counter punch.

EFC were just following in the footsteps of what Geelong were doing under Thompson, anyone remember the mass that a lot of their players put on in a short period? Who was doing what behind the scenes? Ah sorry, let not go there. Just feel that a very large broom and rug have been brought into play by the AFL on this that one.As opposed to * a few years ago!
That's the other irony I love about the * saga. EFC were bulking up their players just as the league leaders like Hawthorn were trimming them down to become better running machines!

He also introduced Essendon to some of the major players in this scandal, including Dean 'The Weapon' Robinson, who in turn brought his 'trusted friend' Dank to the party. There was also the fella who imported various substances and had been close to people involved in the Geelong footy club. Coincidence? Who knows?Thompson was one that questioned what was going on wasnt he? Hence why he was outcasted
Yea I get the feeling he frowned on a lot of practices that happened. If people remember Geelong became good almost overnight. One weekend fans called for the coaches blood. The next they started winning and never stopped. Don't think it had a lot to do with injections. More so dumb luck on FS'sThompson was one that questioned what was going on wasnt he? Should remain best 22. Has a great, long, accurate kick which will be important in defense now that Suckling is gone.Do you guys run a BEST 22 THREAD? cant find it
Hows Taylor Duryea tracking this preseason any injury hiccups?
Do you guys run a BEST 22 THREAD?....?
Do you guys run a BEST 22 THREAD? cant find it
You reckon it doesnt matter? All about the process and system ayeEven if we did it would be meaningless as we're a 'horses for courses' type of team
I think squads win cups, you need 25-28 capable playersYou reckon it doesnt matter? All about the process and system aye
I think squads win cups, you need 25-28 capable players
You want best 22 to be your 22 in form players with a few others breathing down their necks and ready to step in
I dont think any footy astute wouldnt agree with that sentiment and logic.
However whats your best 22? The players available for round 1 which 22 do you pick based on what you know now? No doubt that changes after/during Nab cup
