From reading all the reports I reckon Buller will have to be 2nd ruck which means that we still have a couple of talls if West comes in. If Howes did play he can play alongside Howe which would be a fun line to read out if they still read out the teams. ;) Am worried about Grundy absolutely dominating because Steene surely cannot ruck for most of the game like Brodie does.
We here the word "monstered" quite a bit on here but I haven't seen a ruckman truly monstered since Guy Richards in the early 2000s. The rules just don't allow for it. Grundy gets a lot of possessions but his disposal and decision making is only average. The other thing is that Grundy can't take a mark to save his life. As long as Steene offers a contest, he'll be fine. I'd take Grundy to the square because they won't put him forward very often because he can't mark.

Training - Wed, May 13.

Absent:

Sullivan
Cochran
Hill
Reef
Membrey
Perryman

Rehab:

Moore & Lippa - Doing some running side by side, having chats as they run. They looked pretty unhampered both of them.

Things I noticed:

  • Josh and Sidey played mid in match sim
  • Long was down forward
  • De Mattia wing, Steele the other wing
  • Pendles trained, and down back in the white.
  • Steene took first ruck duties

Black:

  • Maynard
  • Howe
  • IQ
  • Houston
  • Nick D
  • Parker
  • Harry D
  • Steene
  • Jordy
  • Steele
  • Josh D
  • Szhultz
  • Jamie
  • Beau
  • McStay
  • Buller
  • Long

Frampton did train, but he may not have done match sim.

We had Teakle and Brady Grey join us for training this morning. Might have been for a numbers pov and just in case DC wasn't training

Here's one outside the box. I think Howes will come in and play forward/ruck. According to some track watchers, he does a bit of rucking at training. Not good for West but his time will come. IDK, I'm running out of idea's

West is your last option?

Not really but I don't think they'll drop McStay or Buller this week. My personal opinion is that West isn't ready yet, especially against the swans in Sydney. Maybe the week after.

Doubt West would play next week IF does not play vs Swans as they putting everything into that Game

Howes is even further away then West

Who really knows Dave. I'm just guessing according to my own beliefs. I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again.

IF you think of Howes to play Forward Ruck we might as well play Smit

His contested marking is on par with DC’s this year and he is =2nd in all rucks for goals this year. I would like to not worry about those things, but they’re not in line with how Grundy has played this season

Bugger. That was my last hope. Oh well, he might have a bad night

Mate u think every kid is a few weeks off. Time to bite the bullet and play the kids who are performing when the spots open up.

One for the track watchers - Nick has appeared hampered in the last couple of games, maybe a foot problem.

Any sign of this at training? It may not exist, or it may be exacerbated in the heat of a game.

I think there might be some trolling of the Westies going on here. He's a cheeky old bugger is manicpie

I agree. The SCG isn’t the ideal ground to debut on for a leading full forward. Wait a week & give him a west coast defender on a spacious MCG in front of a massive crowd to cheer on Pendles.

West has already had his debut.

Yes I forgot his 1 game. Still think the SCG against a very good defence that will also welcome back McCartin to bolster it is a tough ask.
Yeah, but what a way to make a name for yourself!
Come in and kick a bag against the Swans - now there's something I'd like to see.

He's a better position now than he was then. Much fitter. He'll compete.
