Training

went down to training last monday at Vic Park. Here are my obsrervations.

Jones and McLean dominated the time trial, these two seem to be streets ahead of the rest of the squad. Sylvia was 4 or 5th which was a great sign. Expected players like, dunn, bate and bukcly to be higher placed but where back with the main group. But yeah Mclean and Jones where dominate. Meesen as reported ran solid.

Moloney completed the whole session as did sylvia which was excellent news. Morton, Maric completed the whole session, where Grimes ran laps and did 200mtr sprints. Bartram ran laps with Whelan and kicked the ball at times. Didnt seem to be in any trouble. Flash didnt do the time trial but did join in the drills.

Stephan martin, and holland trained in the back line group. As did Pettard.

Shane Valenti, moved very very well and looked good. Other players to stand out Jones, Miller and also impressive was Bode. Frawely has bulked up and although his kicking style is at best described as awkard did hit the target each time. Warnock also looked as if he has bulked up, i think he will get his chace as the third tall in defence.

All in all a good session with 85% of the group completing the session. All goes well for the season proper.

I've been to quite a few training sessions at the Junction and i totally agree with you on expecting more in the fitness area from some players. Jones, Brock and Meesen were tearing it up but Bate and Dunn were coming last in the runs. Good to hear about Sylvia. Would love to see a big year from him.

The usuals have been training the house like ur mcleans, jonses n so on, also alot of the newer drasftees are showing potenital liek Archre, Morts and Grimes. I watched the zebras train on friday and one youngster in particular stood out with the running, built like a greyhound but runs everybody into the ground, anyone know his name?

It's a shame Godders isn't still training at the club, he's always kicking everyone's arse on the track. If he was there and Brock and Jones were going better than him I'd know for sure they were elite fitness wise. (Someone else try to use Godders and elite without a negative in there!)

who are some players that are training the house down or look as if they are due for a break through year at Melbourne ?
Col Garland, Simon Buckley, Isaac Weetra should all come through nicely this year.

Any news on how Chris Johnson is training? Also will Meesen be ahead of Jamar and Johnson if he continues training like this?

I think he'll deserve first crack at the backup spot if hes tearing it up on the track, neither PJ or Jamar have done anything special to date to warrant a grace period.
