We want a LEADER off and on the field....Boak as Captain was a significant reason/influence as to why Rockliff, Watts, Motlop etc joined the club....Ollie is not at that level of player and off field leader YET...does Ollie have the capabilities, absolutely ...and is possibly 1 maybe 2 years away and may still require a transition year if Boak does not capt in 2019. IMHO would still have Boak as captain....and by the way if the captain of any club whose form drops away, guess what... he can be dropped....wouldn't be the first time
McDermott says he rates Boak as one of the best if not the best captain in the AFL.
But Tex was voted best AFL captain by a landslide by the very people that would know best.........
Boak 29, been in serious decline for 3 years already.
Motlop and Watts will be 27, should be heading into their absolute prime.

As long as we get his off season right, something I don’t think we have managed for the last two years he is top ten BF and lifts the cup.
There were a lot of calls from various posters last year for Boak to be dropped...
Travis has been targeted the last 2/3 yrs. Ken mentioned it and got stuck into the group for not sticking up for the skipper. He was All Australian in 2013-2014 and close to that level again in 2015.
The last two seasons have been a little below par by these high standards but he has still managed to place 5th and 9th in our B&F meaning he's hardly a world away from playing great football.
Well said3. The guy went overseas on his own dime and worked on improving his running. When Wines does that he can be captain (imagine him actually having the endurance required to run out a game).
4. We don’t need the best player to be captain, we need the right player to be captain. Boak might not be a natural leader, but he displays the work ethic of a captain.
Or run out of gas in the 2nd half of the year. We have to manage his work load better if we expect him to be the bloke that is regularly covering 120m between FP to BP. Give him a rest for one or two games so he is fresh when it counts.B\\oak has been putting in some serious pre-pre season work and played in the International Rules, he is going to be flying next season!

Not going to happen for a while, certainly not the next two years! Unless he decides he doesn't want to do it.If Boak does lose captaincy. I am of the opinion that Ebert/Hartlett (ducks head) should be captain for the one year, Wines still just off it imo

Who is the benchmark in the league for the HHF role that Boak currently plays? How does he stack up? It is pointless measuring him against current mids in the team or against his performance within his previous role. Of course stats will point to a drop off but has his value to the team dropped off much? Not according to coaches votes.
It worked for Russell Ebert.Travis became captain in his 7th year at the club. Ollie's 7th season will be 2019. Hardly infallible logic but that time line sort of seems about right at this point.
