In the immortal words of Gag Halfrunt...
"Vell, Travis iz just zis guy, you know?"
Can't like a quote from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy enough. I have updated my opinion of you to "mostly harmless".

Watched him a year ago in the VFL at Vic Park and some punter near me and Pablo Discobar on the wing gave Cloke a moderate sledge... nothing particularly rude or offensive from memory... just about him being in twos, or being no good....

Cloke immediately turned around and gave him back such venom... that i thought there and then that Cloke was way too affected by such a common and mild sledge... that he must be really struggling with his circumstances. And clearly this year hasn't gone to plan for him either.

In saying that, his problems may not be related to football. Hope he feels better soon.

But old man Cloke said he was happy and flying at the dogs after it all being Buckley's fault?

Probably not the right time to gloat.

Feel guilty about starting this thread, especially as I've suffered major mental health problems in the past .

All the best Travis. Be kind to yourself.

Depression is not a a matter to take lightly but afl players need to toughen up.....becoming a get out a jail card now......before ppl bite my head off i have had depression.....and i couldn't take time off work

I don't think Trav's toughness is in question. He returned faster than I would have this year after having his ribs smashed in with a cheap shot...

I know what you are saying pablo disco bar but mental health issues can effect people in many different ways. Fortunately for you, you could work but some people who are effected can't deal with life's challenges in general and may need to take time off. Every case is different.

He's still training isn't he? So technically he's going to work.

For too long the stigma of mental illness has kept people from speaking up, its good that Trav feels he is confident enough to open up and say he needs help.

Unfortunately there are still Neanderthals around who refuse to recognise this illness as a genuine illness but their stupidity is slowly fading

I doubt this thread has caused any problems.

Although on second reading some morons are trying their hardest

Not all situations are the same, and not all people are affected in the same manner; it should not matter what the job of a depression sufferer is.

Can you remember when you coped with depression how the suggestion to "toughen up" would feel? In my case I can tell you it wasn't helpful, because if I knew how to toughen up when facing those circumstances I would.

Please don't assume I'm having a go at you mate, I have had similar discussions with my own family when they at times offered similar "help". :)

I reckon he has been carrying this burden for awhile. I alwYs think back to when that gossip mag invaded his privacy and published those nude photos along with Swanny. He never seemed the same to me after that, must have taken a toll on personal life - regardless how he may have tried to act in social media like it was all 'happy families'.

Wonder how those low life gossip mag leaches feel about likely contributing to this. Maybe they can dig around in his bins and find some new material.
I had forgotten about that. Wonder what impact it had. Pity the slapper that sent the pics to the mag didn't get charged.

At the risk of getting shot down in flames most of us all had a good laugh when the same thing happened to Riewoldt and Dal Santo.

You are responsible for your own actions imo. Dont blame the messenger.

That said it may well have affected Cloke at the time, as well as his relationships with those around him.

Not saying your mental health wouldn't have affected the quality of your work, but being in the right head space is such a crucial part of performing in elite sport so I fully understand the need for him (and Fasolo, and anyone else in the same situation) to be given the time they need.

Had no choice

Had no choice
No offence mate but you did have a choice and that was to go to work when you were mentally unwell. You were obviously still well enough to work or you wouldn't have rocked up. Every persons situation is different. Some people are just not well enough to cope with the daily grind.

Some people need to go to work to get paid...
