Fantastic Game Tonight - He is better then Lumumba

Not sure about that career-wise but certainly been better this year, and that's what counts :) In fact I'd say he's probably been the best of the three included in the trade, but Geelong & Clarke need until the end of the season to assess that as the forward line might just be taking a while to gel.

Looking like a very good pickup for us. Along with Crisp and (eventually:)) Greenwood, our trading in is looking very solid this year, maybe better than solid. And if White can keep his form up...we can start to be really pleased with ourselves.

Great four quarter effort from Varcoe, adds another dimension to our team and has polished skills around goal.
Very good get along with Crispo.

Great game from Varcoe. Granted it was against severely weakened opposition, but hopefully it's enough to give him the confidence he needs to play that way against good opposition.

Have you added 'against a severely weakened opposition' to every post in the last 12 hours or am I just imaging it?

Possibly. Am I wrong? I believe any excitement (not that I've seen much) should be severely tempered for that very reason. We played a Gold Coast reserves team and didn't look great doing it. If we get over North, there'll be far more reason for excitement. If we play the way we did last night against North, they'll destroy us.

"Travis Varcoe has registered 26 disposals for only the second time in his 146-game career. These disposals have been recorded at 100 per cent effectiveness, alongside eight marks, four inside 50s and two goals." AFL.com.au/match-centre

He ended up with 29 disposals, still at 100% DE. :thumbsu:

It treats the rest of us as idiots who are too stupid to understand the situation. It also comes across as faint praise. It is almost the equivalent of the 'I'm not racist but.....'

Will always have a soft spot for Travis and he was good last night. I said yesterday elsewhere that this trade is shaping as a rare win, win, win trade. Looks as though that all Lumumba, Clark and Varcoe needed was a change of environment.

He had the best game of the year yesterday.

After every possession he just keeps on running and running. You'll often see him in the back pocket/deep half back flank and see him streaming through the middle or the wing up to the half forward line. Whenever our backline linked up with him good things happened up forward. He didn't make one mistake and worked at 100% efficiency. Even kicked 2 nice goals when he spent time up forward. He also has great decision-making skills and just plays his role week in week out. Will be interesting to see how he is played against NM.

It's difficult to say whether he should be positioned up forward, on the wing, or on the half-back line, he is just so versatile for us right now!

If we can get something between StKilda game (didn't get as much of the ball but got his hands dirty more) and the Suns game (got a lot of the ball and was damaging with it) then I'd walk away happy with his performance every week. The doubt on him is his ability to keep working (even if it is more on the defensive acts and then doing what he can with the possessions he goes get) when the ball isn't coming his way as much or when the game is more of a tough, contested affair and that's what he needs to find within him.

Might just be me....but I haven't rated North since Archer retired. Unless Lindsay does some fancy ducking (and we know he will) they're just a middle teir team like the rest of us. Don't let their soft draw results of the last few years suck you in. We will need to nullify Goldstein's influence but then pound for pound we're at least as good as them. North are like Richmond...there or there abouts. Our kids should see it as another chance of picking up a scalp. Wish Greenwood was playing!
Marley onto Lindsay might be interesting (if the umps give the tackler a chance) but look out for Scott Thompson acting for frees and Boomer trying to get stuck into our young defenders. Very "ordinary" side are Norf.

Travis has been very good from the get go. His work rate is exceptional. A number of times he has given off the handball in our defensive fifty and then he follows the chain of possession into our forward fifty to be at the drop of the ball or ready for a hand pass. Unfortunately I do not know what this means in regards to our ball movement, either Travis is very quick and fit or our ball movement is very slow. He also does the gut running in the opposite direction away from our goals. He deserves every inch of the credit that should come his way this week, he has been a great pickup.

An unashamed TV fan, as I said pre-season, he finally looked to have recovered from ALL his former injuries at the end of 2014. Baffled me that he was then put on the trade table.
Nevertheless, he is doing as I had hoped he would--elite gut-running, and now, lots of accurate possessions. His role at Geelong was often criticised by "fans" as if he was only an outside receiver, but you and others are seeing what he brings to the team.
I am not related to him, am old enough to be his dad, have never said a word to him, just happy he is not past his use-by-date as was claimed by many.

Meanwhile, Clark is proving to be nuisance value some games to opposition defences, so could well be a win-win.
And then there's Lamumba...

With Varcoe going well looks like we have secured the upgrade on Young.
Our recruiting of mature players has been good of late.

He loves playing GC. The only time he recorded more disposals than he did yesterday was also against Gold Coast.

I reckon you're looking too far into it.
