Looked a bit out of form at times but that is expected for his first game of the season. Really shows how much we have missed his forward pressure. He really is a very important player.

I don't think he looked out of form at all! Contributed directly to our first 4 or 5 scores. Commentators criticized him for a couple of 50/50 decision making errors, but by that stage they were nitpicking to find anything wrong with the way we were playing. Travis was bloody excellent all day.

Top post. With Bomber wanting to continue with the three tall forward set-up, what is needed is a pacy small forward to put pressure on the rebound, which is what Travis provided in spades today. Bring Stokes back in a few weeks, and our forward line will be extremely dangerous.

Some of his field kicking today was a joy to watch, and I bet as the game went on, Moons, Pods and Tomahawk would have licked their lips when they saw Varcoe swoop onto the ball across half forward.

Defensive pressure was outstanding, and good work zipping at the feet of the talls. We have missed him.

I wonder if we can fit him, Byrnes and Stokes in the same side, and I get the feeling we might be about to find out.

Well done Trav :thumbsu:

Yep, I thought that he made a few bung decisions approaching goal. But as stated above, it was his first game so we can expect a few skill errors early. But he did make space with his good pace and his forward pressure was something that we sorely missed last week.

Changes the whole dynamic of the team. Not only did he get 9 score assists but he also had two tackles that lead to goals which I don't think counted.

He is a unique player who is only Now starting to reach his potential.

Who was that tank wearing the number 5? Someones been in the gym.

Was great, thought he started a bit shakily but was nailing forwards on the chest by the end of the game. Welcome back Trav!

When plays like he did today in big games will be regarded a star..was ablett like today, i know its a big call..

Actually that's what I thought too. I also notice when Ablett plays Varcoe shadows him (and vice versa) and they feed off one another and the talls really well, they're a really devastating combination. Good to have them both in next week, think we'll need them.

I've always been an unashamed Trav fan so it was great to see him back, playing a career best game and really giving us a taste of what's to come.

Today he added three vital and obviously until now missing ingredients, speed, tackling and genuine defensive pressure.

The questioning of his place in our best 22 was absurd even prior to today but should now be put to bed for quite a while given his impact and his obvious uniqueness in our forward line.

He had an extraordinary 7 goal assists today.

To put that into perspective, through 6 rounds our current leader has 9 goal assists.

He was real bottom aged when drafted and injury crippled him for his first twos, but his talent (and believe me, it's still untapped) has never been in question and now we're starting to reap the rewards.

All he needs is an injury free period and if he gets that, watch out.

Thats if both play next week - we rarely have only one week injuries these days, plus I am a bit worried about head-high contact that Varcoe made over on the "outer" side. Who knows with the MRP but thats one thing they are hot on.

Travis was an awesome addition to the team today, it was just fantastic to watch his game.

Varcoe is all class....... an absolute star! 7 goal assists today after being #1 in goal assists in our Premiership year.

People have totally underrated this guy.

IMO..the best indigenous player in the AFL, and by end of year, barring injury, will be recognised as such. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Just hope he doesnt go into his shell when GAJ comes back.

Its your time Trav.....do your stuff son!! :thumbsu:
