Was one of my favourite second-tier players during his time at the club, hard as nails and could jump like a kangaroo (remember the game he played for us at Waverly as our only ruckman when we had no tall players, and absolutely smahed it?)

IIRC the broken cheekbone they mention him coming back from in that clip was suffered against Carlton after he smashed one of their mob with a huge hip and shoulder and got belted behind play by Beaumont or someone as a sqaure up. Can't remember if this was also the year where he got glandular fever in preliminary final week or just around there and missed out on the flag. Would have to have been one of our unluckiest players in his time, could never stay on the park.

Went back and played with Port Magpies after he was delisted by us, from memory.

Was he another defender that we rescued from the Dee's? Pretty sure he was. If so, we've had a pretty good record trading with them in the past - received Ormond-Allen, Bassett and Thompson, and given Meesen, Williams and that other guy whose name escapes me but played in the 2000 GF.

Thanks aneale, Collins it was.

Vardy also, correct, what did we get in return for him? Didn't really rate his work at Melbourne to be honest, not as much as his form with us in 96-98.

I wonder if TOA was one of those players who kept playing local/country after he retired or just left the game entirely. I could see him being a gun forward for some country sides with his leap and body strength.

I'm pretty sure I read an article last year on TOA that said he was still playing. He's still only be what 35?

I have a feeling he played in the VIC Amateurs last year for the Mornington Peninsula team fellas.

I think he played Amateurs with either Port DIstricts or Phos Camden for a number of years also?

Anthony Ingerson.

Anthony Ingerson.

They keep coming! Part of the Darren Jarman deal, Essendon got upset afterwards because they thought they'd been promised Wellman and Ingerson. Bet they didn't stay that way for long.

And people thought Perrie was a bad shot for goal.

Hahndorf recruite TOA for a year in '06, in a vein attempt to beat the all conquering Mt. Lofty Devils:p:D Not sure whether he stayed on after that, KingsCrow could probably fill you in on that.

I'm pretty sure i read in the Sunday Mail a few months ago that TOA played in a league way up north last year, somewhere like Roxby?? And is a fair chance to return there again this year as well.

When he played in the Hills a few years ago, i think heard he didn't dominate as much as would be expected. Ditto for Surjai Cook when he played in the Hills as well.

As for Vardy, he seems to have made news for the wrong reasons the last year or 2.

On the topic of Peter Vardy he was so massively underrated IMO, in 1998 the guy was winning games off his own boot. I remember the prelim final in 98 he was literally on one foot and still managed 2 important goals. I would say that he is the best small forward we ever had at the club and to this day could never work out why we ever got rid of him.

Yeah, sounds about right, its a pretty strong league up in the hills, especially the top 4-5 sides, Hahndorf were 3rd halfway through the season with TOA, don't think Lobethal with Cook even made the finals, if they did it was a first round exit.
