Recent video interview indicates that Troy would prefer to play for the Cats (for the Dan factor), but that's not going to shake off any other team if they're interested. This kid has talent to burn!

Also, said he was a Pie supporter before Daniel was drafted to us, however all of their picks are after us. If Collingwood pick him up after we passed on him, I'll trust that Wells had his reasons.

All of Collingwoods picks are after 16 though aren't they?
yes they are....

however them Pies are a shrewd (amongst other adjectives) lot and with 3 picks in 18 - 22, it would not surprise me at all to see them package two up and move up to get whom they want... not necessarily Tenzel but you get the idea.

Also not beyond Wells to let them have 16 for say 20 and a second.....

Will be interesting to see. Would be curious to see their list space too - ie how may of thosr picks can they actually use or is the trade up theory a reality for them...

Trade period has ended though or can draft picks be dealt to move up these days?

This trade/FA/Draft period has gone on so long I'm questioning my sanity

Not sure CA. I figured, perhaps wrongly, that it was a tradable commodity. When did Wells move back to get 40 and 42. That was before the draft wasn't it.....

Perhaps not possible now. Im sure PO would know....

Wells already toyed with the idea of swapping our first rounder for 2 picks in the 20's. In fact more than toyed, as I've heard the only thing stopping it from happening was WC not agreeing to trade out Mitch Brown. St. Kilda wanted our pick 16 to bundle with Cripps for Mitch Brown (WCE). In return we would have received picks 24 and 25 (?).

However, the trade period has officially closed so the picks a team has now are what they take to the draft, as far as I'm aware.

This and the experience of the Bundy and Vardy picks led me there too. Wasn't sure if it was still viable - sounds not...

Wells will not lead us astray....

The draft order is now final (barring any penalties the Crows may get for the Tippett saga) so Collingwood can't pick Menzel ahead of us. If he is to go before we get a chance, I'd imagine Port or GWS would take him.

Port at 7 I think is too much of reach for Kenny from Camperdown ( geez he was great when he played for us) in his first draft. GWS at 14 however is a major issue. They have 4 picks before this ( 1,2,3,12) and can afford to burn one with a little risk - and Tenzel is that.

A fall to 16 would be epic.

And to digress, GWS will just be monsterous in a few years with the picks they have.

It's funny too, I just don't get the go home vibe either with the GWS players... Bigger threat that the GCFC I think...

Kinda like the big one (earthquake) that will hit California sometime. You have NFI when its gonna hit, but like death and taxes you know its coming...

GWS are going to be a massive force with a big window... you just don't know when its going to start.....

And I was woken by a 4.0 this morning...

Everyone's falling for this theory. They have no culture or history. No leaders. Many of their guns will want to go home (Caddy, Toy etc). Salary cap issues will hurt, particularly in a FA environment. They are really no different to any other club. Geelong have won 3 flags without a pick under 7. Melbourne & Carlton have a ton of Top 5s and where are they at?
I'm not saying it won't happen but I think if they are Top 4 in 5 years time they will be doing well.

Fair point. But its like carpet bombing. Sooner or later with enough ammo (picks) you are going to get it right. And they surely have had enough picks...

Melbourne have had high picks and missed with plenty. Need a better bombarder!

Time will indeed tell...but it's far from a fait accomplit!

With our list squeeze, I would think we want quality rather than quantity - not that picks in the twenties can't be quality, but you know what I mean. Best possible quality, and that is pick sixteen, for us.

GWS will probably go for him, unless...

...picture the scene...

Troy exits the family home and is walking up the street...
The side door of a parked van slides open...
A voice from inside calls "hey, kiddo!". Troy peers in and sees his brother beckoning him closer...
Troy steps nearer...
Suddenly, two brutes in balaclavas (josh hunt and chappy) bundle him into the van, which then speeds off to KP.

Hey presto, two Menzels in hoops! ;-)

he could also pretend to do a serious injury and cause everyone to back away from him, perhaps turf-toe?

Ha hahah, wouldn't that be considered Draft tampering!! We could up losing pick 16:D

A mate of mine works in recruiting at Hawthorn. He has stressed to me numerous times that there is NO WAY Troy will make it to 16, no matter how much I complain & argue with him!

He reckons without any knee injuries he would have been top 3 according to the guys at the Hawks. HUGE wraps on the kid, and even with his knees, won't make it past top 10.

I'm still praying he's wrong.
