Are we seriously gonna lose Simmo next year? Anyone know anything for sure? I've only heard rumours.

I think his first preference is to stay, but the deal offered is not good enough for him.

I don't really care if he goes, will free up a space in the forward line for Murphy and we should get something of value for him, but if he goes to richmond in the psd i'll be livid :)

I doubt he will go to Richmond via the PSD. He knows we gave him a chance to make it in the AFL and I doubt he would jump ship on us.

I honestly think we should consider trading him though. He is in high demand so we will get something good for him. Also, it will allow him to play in the ruck which is his more suited position and will open up FF for us for Murphy or whoever... and it will let us develop a forward line setup that will suceed in the future. Let's be honest, sticking Simmo at FF was only a temporary thing. All good sides have gun FF's or CHF's (or both), and we have neither at the moment so it's time to start developing.

hahahhaah Total Package, you are an absolute legend. Bringing back all them excellent memories.

Just for the dockers supporters, does anyone have a picture of the wooden spoon they won a few years ago?

It's okay, you can stop contributing here now. :)

I will tell you this plane and simple. Richmond are going to go after Troy hard and i am sure they will get him for the fact that we have alot of younge players on low salleries and we can offer him a large wage.

Im not up to speed on the sticking points surrounding his contract, so maybe people could clarify it.

Is it purely monetary, length of contract demands, a change of environment etc,or combination of factors?

A rumour circulating on dockerland was that Wallace was in in Perth earlier this week and given Millers comments regarding simmonds, richmond along with North & the Saints seem to be chasing hard for his services.

I cant value his worth as i rarely see a dockers game, but if he were to leave what do dockers fans believe would be a realistic trade for him.

Would they accept Simmonds and pick 27 for Ottens?

That was my exact thoughts.

Richmond get a ready made, less injury prone replacement... and a sweetener as Simmonds is a year or two older, and prob doesn;t have the same natural talent as Ottens.

We get a CHF that can ruck, which is what we need.

not having a go freo fans, but why do u rate troy so highly. I'd be very surprised if u get a good deal out of it. After attending all dockers games this year, he really struggled up forward, and isnt that great in the ruck either. Good luck tho

Personally, I don't. I think he's handy, but he's also very very expendable.

ok ill give u that.Expendable yeah.Sure he is handy, but ppl are demanding a large compensation for losing him. I just reckon that freo will struggle to get much. The greatest hope could be to get heath black home, although i dont believe he is the player that u are looking for. Just throw murphy up forward, give him time, he'll be very good. U have longmuir and sandilands, polak and mcpharlin. I dont see y u need him, nor do i see a massive need to replace him with a like for like player. So maybe the best bet is to get some early drafts, although im not sure who would give up an early draft for such a player

I see Troy as being slightly over rated. But so is J Carr. It really depends on each individual club and how they see worth of the player, based on there current needs. Some clubs seem to be pretty desperate for a ruckman. Simmonds tap work is not fantastic, but he does well around the ground and can go forward and kick goals. From a fremantle perpective he has done well and contributed to some of fremantles sucess last year, he is well liked by the playing group to. It will be a intersting trade week to see what eventuates. Personally i would like freo to take a conservative approach to trade week.

i reckon u will lose him. Fair enough i agree some clubs may want him bad, but at the same time they realise that freo doesnt really need him that much. If someone wants a ruckman, west coast is the place to visit , althought i doubt that they will give any of them up except maybe johnson who has played up forward all year. It will be interesting for sure, i cant wait to get it all under way.

This year he did reasonably well considering the poor delivery he got this season, we struggled to get clearances and delivered poorly into the forward line. Hence why Medders and Wiz rarely set the place alight. Our forward structure was very poor, part coaching - part personnel. We broke down through the half forward line when we got clearances and that often resulted in Snake leading too far out which limited his chances with goals. He needs to be within 50 to be a chance at kicking goals and not outside as he was.

I thought he did well to kick 35 goals and very few points on the opportunities he got. He could do very well I feel, he needs to improve his marking (had rubber **** at times) and leading (so hes not too far out when kicking) and also could be abit more physical but then thats a Freo weakness but personally would love to have him for one more season up forward, could be what we're missing until Murphy comes of age.

He will be a loss if he goes which I cant see any other way if we're to get Carr

Yeah I didn't rate him as highly as others seem to, but I thought about a few things he does and thought his worth to the team is pretty high.
It was his first year at FF, and while I think he wasn't brilliant, he was okay. I also think, however, that at 26 he is not the answer unless he could turn it on in the next season, and frankly I don't reckon we have the time-frame for that. Murphy (19), McPharlin (22), Pav (22) can all be trained up as key forwards, each have more natural talent, could learn quickly (esp McPharlin - footy brain and a half that young man!!) and I reckon they'd all do better than Simmo.
However:
He's very agile for a big bloke - how many times every game was he picking the ball up off the half volley, or grabbing it around his toes. I reckon sort out the delivery and Simmo improves 10-fold immediately. Get Medders and Farmer to work with him, around his feet, get out of his way when he's leading, get others to honour his leads and get it in there faster, and Simmo improves another few percent.
He also cleared space for J-Lo to drop into, take some good marks and kick goals... so the goal doesn't get marked down next to his name, nor the assist, but he had his part. He is also a long and straight kick - his conversion rate is around 70%.
He's a VC which shows he is very highly regarded and respected around the club.
I do believe whole-heartedly that he should be using his size and bulk in a way that does more damage to opposition players than what he does now.
Double black belt and keeps snakes as pets - he should be scaring the freaking bejesus out of the opposition!! I'd be more keen to hang onto him if he was mean and nasty - we have enough nice guys in our team.

He's good, but definitely expendable and the perfect sort to use as trade bait. Worth a lot to a club who need what he offers - agility, a good leap, athleticism and an ability to play forward when required. The fact that Richmond and Norf are both very, very keen and that the Saints are interested shows that they all rate him to fill a gap in their list.

Just out of interest Sinepari, who do think is more valuable come trade week, Simmonds or your "blue chip" (according to local press?) Morrison?

According to the worst journo in the southern hemisphere, Barra (I would have said world, but you gotta give him the benefit of the doubt!!); Simmo has told the club he wants out, and wants to be traded to either:
Kangaroos, Carlton, Richmond or Sydney.
He (Barra) just announced it on Dockerland.

Freo will now have to make a deal that works, or it will be "go directly to jail, do not collect $200"... oops I meant Richmond via PSD.

I'd be alright with him being traded, and a bit sad to see him go. I don't think he has solved the full forward problem. If he wants to go, let him.We need players with their hearts 100% in it. You need relatively good players to trade, and Snake will be worth something. I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

Would pick 10 straight up get it done?

Reckon Freo might jump at that. We likely need a first rounder to give to Port as part of the Josh Carr deal - that would enable us to still have a first round pick and the chance to pick up another good young ún.

Unless we could get a player that can do what Simmo does but who comes cheaper, I would think a first rounder would be more than fair. Also means salary cap space for us.

I think we'll offer pick 10 to your mob if we get outpointed in the Ottens situation. Getting Jesse W Smith in the third round means we are effectively getting a top 10 pick there, so using pick 10 on a readymade ruckman like Simmonds makes sense as he would slot straight into our first 18 in that position.
