So we've established that there was a philly crowd who were going bonkers (acceptable term at the time of the riots), that may or may not have been caused by a sporting event which has not entirely been determined as to whether it's NFL or MLB related but is highly likely to be MLB related.

I've seen enough IASIP to know that a sporting event is not required for bonker-related activities.

That's the only thing easing the pain. Knowing that dickhead goes for the Pats.

I’m gonna try to use this during our season.

*Port lose Showdown by 10 goals*
Suck it, thundercloud.

It could literally be the difference between drowning your sorrows and drowning yourself.

^put that in a fancy font and whack it on a bus stop #savelives

I was really impressed by Gerard Whateley's coverage of the Superbowl on SEN today.

Called the game very well and actually knew what he was talking about.

I'd much rather listen to him talk footy, or anything for that matter, than one of the boys who only get airtime because they played the game and were mates with the right people.

Minneapolis got a new stadium because their last one, the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, the roof collapsed.

A rare instance when a city needs a new stadium and actually gets it, it's usually somewhere that doesn't really need a new stadium that gets one.

It was also groundshared with the Minnesota Twins, used to be the worst stadium for baseball, imagine playing outfield and looking up at a white roof under bright lights, trying to find a baseball

They had been talking to build a new stadium for several years before they finally committed monies to develop it when they had after the incident you youtubed from 2010. The amount of snow in Minneapolis has always been an issue with average snowfall per year being about 45 inches or 1.15 metres over 100 days or so of their fall and winter. That much snow added significantly to the cost of a new stadium. In December 2007 on the BDC board in the original stadium thread I quoted this from the wiki page on the proposed new Vikings stadium and how costs especially related to the snow issues made it difficult to raise funds from governments.

This proposed stadium in Minneapolis Minnesota, where the Minnesota Vikings of NFL will play, has a roof like the one in Telstra Dome.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikings_Stadium
The cost is estimated to be $953mil of which the total breaks down to $616,564,000 for the stadium, $200,729,000 for a retractable roof, $58,130,000 for parking, $8,892,000 for adjacent land right-of-way, and $69,601,000 to take into account inflation by 2010

No proposals have been made yet as to how it would be paid for!

The Metrodome's roof collapsed on December 12, 2010, which forced the relocation of the Vikings' final two home games of the 2010 season so that lead to calls for a new stadium from various sources in the local and national media. The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stepped in because the NFL had a $300m stadium upgrade fund, ie it was established under previous NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and then after withdrawals to the fund it was topped up. Ex NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue was the boss for 17 years between 1989 and 2006. He oversaw and in some cases, also arranged financing of 17 new stadiums or major redevelopments. So Goodell like Tagliabue used the prospect of hosting a Super Bowl as the carrot for government to commit funds to build new stadiums and have ownership or in public-private partnerships with NFL team owners.

The original design post 2010 roof collapse was to get rid of the expensive retractable roof and use a a basic Norwegian Viking house architecture design with slanted roof to help overcome the snow issue . They also slanted it in such a way to look like a Norwegian Viking ship's bow. They have pipes that pump heat along the steel and aluminum frames used to fix the in the sheets of ETTE. Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene film is durable, translucent, and a hell of a lot lighter than glass, so engineers use it to form roofs, windows, and facades with much less structural support needed and therefore save a shit load of money and let in light and allow for more interesting designs. There is also a snow gutter, which lines the top of the stadium with a snow melting system to further limit the roof from collapsing due to snow weight.

The new design from 2013 with a lot more modern features than the 2007 design had a budget of $975mil marginally more than the 2007 design. It was supposed to be funded 50% by the Viking Owners 35% by the state government and 15% by a Minneapolis hotel tax. But it blew out to $1.13bil and the state government had to raise cigarette taxes to pay for the $150m blowout. There were protests and court challenges trying to stop both state and local government committing funds to the stadium. The city of Minneapolis must pay over the 30-year life of the deal, $500+m to cover some of the costs that include interest, operations, and construction costs.

Breaking and burning stuff when you win seems like an odd thing to do but when we win the GF this year or next I'm going to personally set Paddy Ryder's recycling bin on fire.

Smithson you've been warned

He was on with Cornes and Blight about 15 minutes ago and you can tell that he has been an interested fan for a long time and not a complete novice to the game. But I listened to a lot of his call from part way thru the 2nd quarter and it was bloody good. His American co-host Bob Sansevere who works on sports radio in the twin cities but from St Pauls, was a lot better than NBC's Al Michaels and his co-host ex Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Collingsworth. Their call of the final play was pathetic for a host broadcaster and their commentary of the 2 reviews was confusing compared to Bob's call.

Chris Collinsworth

He straight up sucks. Phil Simms the ex-Giants QB was recently put out to pasture in favour of recently-retired Cowboys QB, Tony Romo, who won rave reviews for his play reads and analysis on CBS.

NBC should strongly consider doing the same with CC.

Heard a good rock song on triple J today. How thoroughly irresponsible to play such an unexpected variety of music, I nearly crashed such was the shock.

Anyhow they were an Adelaide mob called West Thebarton, anybody here more familiar with them?

Brothel Party? Yeah.

Lmao. Anne Moran commenting in the "Opposing Everything Because I'm from Adelaide" Facebook page. There is some poll about who would win between a new team in the city and old Anne in the city.

She's like "I really want to win this."
