Anyone know the latest news on the to and fro for the TV coverage in 07 ?
Last I heard Foxtel had been snubbed and 7,10 and SBS Digital were to go it alone.
This is all well for those in some centres. In Darwin we do not get Channel 10, so does that mean our covearge in 07 will be worse than when we had Fox Footy ?
Answer is yes, last season I saw all of the Blues games on pay tv, nearly all were live.
Now it seems if we can not work something out to get a 10 feed here we will only have the 7 coverage, meaning we will get 4 out of the 8 matches, as opposed to seeing all the games on Fox Footy, both live and delayed.
The SBS Digital service I believe will only be sent into NSW and Qld.
So, in short, will we in the NT be sent back to the dark ages in terms of footy coverage ? If a deal is not struck, and considering 10 is not here, it would seem so.
Considering our AFL fan base that would be a disgrace.
Just look at our population size and the AFL players we have produced to see what interest there is up here.
Just to mention a few locals who went onto the AFL.
Fabian Francis
Nathan Buckley
Roger Smith (Bris Bears at the time)
Michael McLean
Jason Jones (StKilda)
Russel Jeffrey
Maurice Rioli
Dean Rioli
Nathan Djekurra
Joe Anderson
Lynch
Michael O'Loughlin
Michael Long
Shannon Rusca
Alwyn Davey
Aaron Davey
Gilbert McAdam
Adrian McAdam
...........and some who I know I have missed.

Need I say more, shame if our TV coverage is short changed in 07, depriving us of seeing our kids playing AFL and providing inspiration for the new generation.
Hope it all works out before the first bounce.
RIP Fox Footy.

What??? Nathan buckley is not from the NT! HE's a south australian, like our young boy Gibbs.... and the comparison's d ont stop there! :)

Seriously, I live in Tas and its terrible not having footy on tv like they do in Victoria. I'm feeling your pain pauld. :p

IIRC he moved down from NT to play in SA.

Hate to correct you, love your training reports by the way.
However, Nathan Buckley is an NT boy. His Dad came here from SA to play footy years ago and never left. His Dad was, and may still be, the Manager for Colliers Commercial Real Estate here in Darwin. They have a nice big house in the suburb of Nightcliff near the beach, or did have when I knew the family back then.
When I played for Sthn Districts around 1988-89 here we had Ray Buckley (Nathans Dad) as our senior coach, and a young 16-17 year old Nathan was in the seniors. He had spent time in boarding school in Melbourne, and went on to play SANFL at a young age. Make no mistake, he is a Darwin boy. He was drafted to the SANFL from Darwin, with Sthn Districys receiving payments for that transfer, and the transfer to the Bris Bears.
From memory Ray Buckley came from the SANFL when in his late 20's to play, I think ruck/forward for Nightcliff in the then NTFL, liked it and stayed.
I have a photo somewhere taken at Sthn Districts training back in 1988-89 with a skinny kid called Nathan Buckley (who was one of the top players in the side) talking to our star recruit back then , an 18 year old Allen Jakovich, before he went on to the AFL.
Actually, for a small club Sthn Districts produced and developed players like Jakovich (who was a Sth Fremantle player, but we got him when he had a stint with Pt Hedland Rovers in WA). Districts also produced Michael O'Loughlin, Roger Smith, Nathan Buckley, Shannon Rusca, Fabian Francis and is being coached today by Michael "Magic" McLean and has Daryl White in the side.

thanks pauld. I never knew he was an NT boy :)

Also, i dont write the training reports, and i dont do the pictures - they are normally from thesexysquad.com or talkingcarlton.com and i have asked the people that take the photos, and they dont mind me sharing them.

But yeah, thanks to everyone who does go to training adn shares their info :)

Yeah, Pauld, Ray was the Manager of Colliers in Darwin for a few years. he is a valuer by proffesion. Before he coached Southern Districts in Darwin he had a few stints coaching at st Mary's and Nightcliff. He also played for both sides. Was a ruckman. He did play footy in the SANFL prior to coming to Darwin. I think it was with Woodville.

Ray moved to Melbourne quite a few years ago.

Whilst Nathan played junior footy in Canberra (along side James Hird) he also played junior and senior footy in Darwin with Southern Districts and is an NT State of Origin player as well as an Allies player when Interstate sides are selected.

And, on the TV coverage.... SCTV 7 in Darwin does take a number of Channel 10 shows as well as the 7 network stuff, so hopefully we will get all the free to air games. If not it is possible to get a satellite dish and receiver for a few hundred bucks and get Golden West (GWN) and WIN TV from the Kimberley as well as Imparja.

From what I have heard, Foxtel is miles away from Channels 7 and 10 and it is looking more and more likely that the footy coverage will be all on FTA TV in '07.

I feel for you guys who live in NT and TAS, as you just don't get the footy coverage like we do in Melbourne. All I can say is to remain hopeful that a deal is struck that will see some games shown live on Foxtel.

Its not looking good at the moment for 07 coverage here in Darwin.Hopefully something is organised because we have been spoilt up here for a few years now and going backwards can only suck hard.Over the past few seasons something like only 2 Carlton games a season have been delayed. Not bad for a team thats at the wrong end of the ladder.

The few people in the NT who have pay tv (how many would that be, anyway?) will be a bit worse off. The vast majority of people in the country who don't have pay tv will be better off.

TV coverage in 07 sounds great to me!

AFL on free to air is the way it should be,but what people from Darwin are trying to say is that we dont have Ch10 and without pay tv we will get less games. No one is trying to say the vast majority should suffer just to accomodate us.By the way you will be surprised how many people in Darwin are mad passionate footy fans (especially Blues fans) and have pay tv mainly for the FoxFooty channel and C7 before that.I know many who have full memberships with reserved seating and fly down frequently

You're right, that is very very good IMO. I really hope the the FTA channels can come to some sort of arrangement with Foxtel, but it is appearing less likely as the days go by.

So Darwin residents cannot watch any tv shows on channel 10? Not even Neighbours? Neighbours is televised in nearly every country in the world and not in one of it's own territories?

Im 99% sure we dont get Neighbours, unless its on during working hours and I didnt notice. In 06 Ch7 up here were showing Ch10 games which was weird.

Being such a football mad joint like the NT is, i'm sure the FTA stations will come up with something so NT residents are not disadvantaged.

Actually the football coverage in Tasmania is second to none. Last year every Saturday and Saturday night games were shown live and commercial free on Southern Cross (7/10 affiliate). Then on 10 Digital & 10HD we got the delayed Melbourne feed at 3.30. And of course we got all the NINE and Austar games. So all bar the NINE Friday night delay and Sunday replay, were live.

Next year I imagine they will be split between SC and 10 Digital, so the small percentage who can't get digital coverage here will be very annoyed. But I do hope that Austar get some of the games. Only for the football programing like WLF etc, and the replays.
