What do people think of the fact 6 of the 8 matches this week involve one team that's had a week's rest and another that hasn't? Seems a bit stupid to me.

For example, Hawthorn get a 6 day break before playing in Brisbane, while the Lions get a 12 day break and don't have to go anywhere.

Anyone think this will affect the outcome of any of the games on the weekend? Will it be an advantage to the team with the week's rest, or a disadvantage because the other team has a game under their belt?

That's a good point Goalden Hawk. With a week rest I am resfreshed and raring to go. I feel a bit sorry for Andrew Dunkley who will struggle to match me for pace and endurance this week. I am setting myself a pre-game target of 30 posessions, 10 marks and 6 goals. Hopefully the other players on the team can provide me with some support this time, i can't take all the workload week in, week out.

Don't worry Menschie

I plan to run off you alot on Sunday so I can go on dashing raids up field to create a loose man so that Kel and Schwatta can pinpoint passes to me and I can take towering marks and kick beautiful long goals with that wonderful kicking style I have.

So you can play with yourself in the Paddington Goalsquare on Sunday mate - I've got other things to think about rather than waste my time trying to spoil a champion FF from behind like you !

Hope you boyz are staying in Sillytown on Sunday night - there is a Camomille Tea Bust and Handbag exhibition on at the Albury afterwards

cheers

Don't know how it'll effect them, as some teams were starting to build up some momentum, whereas for others it was a godsend to recover from injuries/loss of form etc. How Carlton comes out against us will be interesting, as they've played themselves into form, but in what looked to be a fairly draining game.

Simple solution to it though: cross over matches between the teams that played last week, and ditto for the teams that played the week before.

For example, if the draw allowed, this week we would have:

Kangaroos V WC
Carlton V Sydney
Collingwood V Brisbane
Richmond V Port
etc.

..... where all the teams are coming of the same one week break, and are games that are yet to played this season, with the draw remaining 'consistent'.

So yeah, the AFL could have organised it better. ;)

PS- David and Andrew - love your work :D

Hear Hear! As if the Crows need this advantage on top of their scientifically proven unfair home ground advantage. The AFL has got this one badly wrong - it has Wayne Jackson's DNA profile all over it.

Interesting to note that there has been varying views on whether it is advantageous to have the long break or the short break, after this weekend's matches. I heard various journos saying how Hawthorn's performance could be partially attributed to the fact that they had only a 6 day break......but then the next day Terry Wallace was moaning that the bulldogs (only!) had a 14 day break compared to Carlton's 6 day break......????????

Unbelievable!

It seems that either way, if you lose you have something to blame it on!

Sorry Chicago1 if this seems like my first anti-bulldog post in a while!!

Where did you see him complain about "only" having 14 days off?

He didn't say that at all, Blues2001.

From the article I saw, all Wallace said was that some teams perform better with the longer break, whereas we seem to fall apart under the same circumstances. He suggested the league have one week off altogether (like we used to have with State Of Origin), where all teams are playing on a level playing field the next week. Similar to my idea, actually ... very smart man is Terry. :D

Ok, maybe 'moaning' is too stronger word. But don't you think it may have been at the very least, a thinly veiled excuse?

I reckon if the Bulldogs had won he woudn't have said anything about it.

Of the games played last week:

6 involved one team coming off a 2 week break and the other a 1 week break. 4 of these games resulted in wins to the team with the 1 week break, with only Brisbane and Geelong winning after having an extra week off than their opponents.

So it didn't appear to affect results that much, but I think if the AFL is going to continue with the split round it would make sense to make sure teams have equal breaks so the media/coaches can't use it as an excuse the following week.

GoldenHAwk you have to rememebr that you too had a weeks break in there somewhere. You just had it at a different time to the Lions. I suppose that it just depends on how your team fairs as to how you take the idea of the break....I'm sure that if the lions got the rare end of the deal i would be chucking a stink, but this year it was good for us, so I'm not complaining....

I'm not complaining Joshhem, as much as I'd love to say the extra week's break allowed Brisbane to kick 15 extra goals, some how I don't think so! :D

I just think the 8 team that had played in the 2nd week of Round 12 should have played each other in Round 13. That way every team would have been playing someone else who had the same break as them and this argument wouldn't happen. Maybe next year the AFL will get it right, after all the fixture this year is an improvement on last years.
