Richmond players will take part in match committee meetings this year under an innovative new plan by coach Terry Wallace, the Herald Sun reports.

How about an innovative plan to make us win some friggin games..;)

Like against Adelaide last year??

Like against the "unbeatable" bombers in 2000?

TW is innovative off AND on the field ;)

is this like when geraint jones was on the selection commitee for england when the dud himself was meant be dropped

just another example of too many people in the leadership groups and 3 captains in a side

what happened to footy clubs who had balls?

i think its a good idea. should help unify the place as the players will feel more ownership of the direction of the club. this should translate into a better performance in all areas of the club. shall be interesting to see if it works.

Positive and sustaained media exposure is up their as one of TW's Key Performance Critereas.

He is charged with making news, even when there is no news.

I don't want to see his face all the time on the TV and Interviews.
If lightning flashes he starts talking and looking for the cameras!!
I just want him to coach.

I'd like to think he spends the same time coaching as a Worsfold. If he does, and the media thing is a pure bonus that he does on top of everything else, then we must congratulate him on putting our club forward as much as possible.

I like the football world looking at Richmond and saying "great young list, heaps of innovative techniques being used... they are on the rise"

Of course all because of the pre season everybody thinks we're going to almost win the spoon LOL but when reality hits in Round 1 onwards it'll be awesome.

Todays news: TW makes Tiger players log onto Bigfooty to see what the fans are saying.

Tomorrows news: Three retirements, two suicides, and a team running around with no confidence or self belief.

Well said haggard it's totally pathetic and TW has gone a little far with this new proposed style. It will be interesting to see how the Tigers handel it.

Here's an innovative plan.

Get your players to hit targets by hand and by foot.

Get your players first to the ball.

Get your players to tackle their opponents not corral them like pink cowboys.

dont forget to add........

play in front
chase
run on for the 1,2
punch from behind
i think they should play some footy where innovations for once are not part of the picture.

ahah exactly what i thought when i first read this. when you think about Richmond footy club has a lot of similarities with english sporting teams (especially cricket) of the last 20 odd years.

Classic and spot on!!

They guy is that full of himself he has actually forgotten that he is the senior coach of a football club!!! Came up with one or two good ploys and now thinks he can re invent the wheel. The quicker he goes the better we will be. This latest stunt is ridiculous. All it will do is create tension between the playing ranks as teammates will know one of their own has screwed them over in regards to team selection. No idea.

Even our ****** skills have gone backwards

Forgotten he is senior coach? He is no doubt doing these innovations ON TOP of his regular coaching hours. He should be applauded for putting in more work.

You are one of those clueless Richmond supporters that gives the rest of us a bad name. "The quicker he goes the better" - dumbest comment of the year.

Why will it create tension? Instead of making wild guesses with no reasoning try to at least explain such an opinion.

Note that TW will only have HALF the selection with the players, and half will be without them so he can make tough decisions and be totally honest. Great idea.

And if you think our skills have gone backwards go and watch us play in 2004. Go on. Were we better back then?? Or are we better now?? Oh how I miss the past!!

I have a different stance than the negativity displayed here too. My thoughts though come from personal experience in the corporate world. Here's an anecdote:

My company used to be quite segregated. Executive managers (CEO, MD and CFO) were basically unapproachable, the Board were a myth. Our work structure was very divided between those that made top level decisions, and those that actually did the work. No-one was listening to each other, there was no trust, the workplace was dysfunctional.

A complete cleanout was required, a different structure needed to be put in place, and this was implemented two and a half years ago. Finally, this workplace is finally starting to see results (only starting, a hell of a long way to go). The board now understand where the workers are placed, senior management understand what they are dealing with, the dealers/economists/back office (ie workers) feel a sense of power and pride, and now feel assured that they can achieve results they want. The most noticeable difference in the place is the moral. There is a distinct sense of trust and (dare I say it, I'm already feeling sick from the corporate crap i've already spewed out) mateship around the place. There's no doubt people work harder for those they hit it off with.

Pretty easy to see how this would relate to footy, but is there any real evidence of it? Do we want the playing group to fear the coaching staff, or be mates with them? There's different examples of each. Sheedy and Mathews seem distant to their teams, the Swans and Dogs would lie down in traffic for Roos and Eade.

Where do we stand? Can't say the whole mateship thing has worked in the past, we've all heard Danny Dudley is a great bloke, but he couldn't coach a fish to swim. Added to that, we haven't had any cattle to implement anything of substance either. One point that stick in my mind is the 1995 season (pathetic we fall back on a successful year that occurred 12 seasons ago, but anyway), where someone mentioned in an interview that Swooper kept instilling in the team "do it for your mates, don't let each other down, they'll be there for you, ra ra ra....". It worked for that season, they obviously trusted Swooper, and each other.

Long story short (sorry 'bout that), our youngsters are just that, youngsters. They're still learning, and will probably play with each other many years to come. While developing on both football and mateship terms, best they trust both those they play with, and those that give the orders. I'd rather the players hitting it off than hating each other. I actually do see this as it was marketed, developing a sense of unity among all those involved, by managing the trust discretely, rather than forcing everyone to be mates. I rate it.

Yes ,Harvey I've had similar experiences.

The more everyone is included and informed the greater the morale and productivity.

Having said that I don't think this is going to change the footballing world, and doubt it will have any significant bearing on who is picked from week to week .
It will however demystify the selection process and assuage possible 'us against them' feelings.
The fear is that a player can slag another player off and it can be traced back but I doubt they would drop someone because one player has a beef. If multiple players bring it up then it's best that the selection commitee are aware of it.
Inclusion beats exclusion a large majority of the time

Democracy is a funny thing tho. Some people in the lower rungs of an organisation want to be part of the decision making, whereas others would just prefer they had a strong leader who was decisive and told them what to do.

Ownership of decision making can be a double edged sword.

The decision making process itself was basically me ranting on to get to the broader point.

In essence, people work better together when they get along, are confident, have developed a level of trust, and know what's going on.

You show me a workplace where morale is shot, there's no undertanding or trust, and individual agendas are placed above the bigger picture, and I'll pass on the phone number of an Insolvency Lawyer.

Even the Eagles are all junkies together, they obviously work well as a tight, buzzing unit.:thumbsu:

The wider you make the decision making circle, the more everyone wants to throw in their 2 cents worth.

Rule with an iron fist I say, and threaten everyone with their job and where possible their life for underperforming

Decisions by concensus is for mothers clubs and sewing circles.

Too many of our players will start renting Winona Ryder movies

Thankfully I don't work for you

I think the misconception here is that the players are going to be picking the team .
I would say they will be doing much more observing than talking and it's the observation and inclusion that counts.
Anyone who says 'this is my view and I want it acted upon now' will get the black mark against their own name .This is also a way for the coaching staff and selectors to find out a bit about the character of the player.

As for concensus being for mother's clubs etc. ... well it must be hard being as tough as you are

Lighten up man.

I just miss the days of Barrasi smacking his players around.

We got better results from tough guys like GR, than PR experts like Miller

I wouldnt mind losing so much if Tivendale got bashed at the end of the game
