The more you hear about the lad, the more you know he's born to be a Pie. So many kids get knocked back in these "Talent quests" because of perceptions (too small, too slow, goes to the wrong school.....etc)....seen it so many times. Mick Turner (GRHS) was famous for telling local kids to switch from local public schools to one of the Geelong feeder schools (Grammar, College, Oberon or St. Joey's) or they wouldn't get a look in at the Falcons. It's all about perception....but this kid Tyan...he's busted down his own doors with hard work and persistence. Can't wait to see what the future holds for another blue collar Pie.

Always good to have a player who has a point to prove and a bit of a " I want to stick it up them!" attitude.

I'll be interested to read from track watchers if he has a reliable right foot / right sided game to match his skillset on his left. Clearly knows how to get it and a nice one touch distributor. Would be keen to see if he can also carry / bounce the ball and accelerate / burst through heavy traffic. Looks a capable mark for is size from available footage.

no offence to young Tom McGuane, but you can see why we preferred this kid, already physically developed
Left foot is a weapon
I am not sure it was choice between him and Tom as Tian was our 1st pick and it is becoming clear why this was so, I think Tian is a good chance to get early games and it be interesting to see how he goes when intra club and practice games come around. It was interesting to me that they have already identified that he has the body and nearly the fitness level to be playing early, he may lack a little strength now but the body is AFL ready now.

I actually get M Voss vibes about this kid with the way he conducts himself and no nonsense attitude, now before anyone gets after me comparing him to Voss who was 1 of the best players I ever saw but I do see a lot of similar traits in the 2 of them at 18. It is very easy to see why he was the 1st one picked and I am stating it now the Lions have made a huge mistake with this boy and I would not mind them making another with his brother but I think that chance has gone because the Lions have put him in their academy already.

Luke Parker is the one I'm wishfully thinking.

I like the attitude. I like the footy IQ. I like the toughness. I like the skills. I just want him to get there quickly. Pace please. The pace may have to come from others/list balance.

According to Annabelle,s report from today,s training session he has plenty of toe to go along with many other attributes, she also said if he stay,s upright and continues like he has started he may even be a chance at rd 1. I am not sure about that but he debut this season probably before KB game v Dees. It is interesting they have him doing the same amount of work senior player,s are doing (this in itself could be sign he is in the frame for early games) but I myself would like to see him in pre season games before that.

I do not envisage the club playing him in many VFL games, I did say in another post that he had played against men already in the VFL 5 games for 21 PPG which is highly encouraging.

Parker has played over 300 games and 2 flags and if Tian get,s anywhere near this I would be over the moon with this as I think most of us here would be. If Swadling comes on and we get the expected improvement from Ned we may see an improvement in the midfield sooner than many expect.

Both are left footed centre man, clearly we were keen on Prindable, which wouldn’t bode well for McGuane as they play similar positions with the same kind of attributes, though Prindable is bigger .
Put it this way, I don’t think it helped McGuanes chances of getting picked up by us as soon as we got Prindable.

I think you are right mate, I think the club were surprised we were able to draft Prindable as I think the Lions did really want him but baulked at the price which I think will turn out bad for the Lions but they had many other options. As I said I think Prindable already has the body to play AFL which is a credit to him as he has done most of it off his own bat.

Tommy would take at least 2 pre season,s maybe even 3 before he would be playing regularly.

I keep thinking about what it is that impresses most about Tyan from training sessions to date, and his balance comes straight to mind… along with footy IQ, work ethic / coverage of ground, and calmness.

Gets in great positions, but then has those cat like / low centre of gravity balance / features that enable him to evade tacklers and execute an extraction. Then he’s on his bike again and knows where to run to to provide link up play and transition. And whilst not electric, slow he is not.

I can see why the recruitment team were rapt that Brisbane passed on this kid, as I’m genuinely hoping he’s a Priddis / Licuria type that comes across as vanilla at first sight, but builds and builds due to shear work ethic and a great all round game.

FTR I haven’t seen a right side yet, as he always wheels around onto his left like most left footers. So maybe that comes later…

I’ll also say that Shane Obree also looks to have been an astute pick up. All draftees are impressing so far. And given the draft hand he had, he might’ve pulled off some absolute bargains.

far superior kick to either of them, has a genuine weapon there, so thats a good start

Promising reading on this kid, looking forward to seeing his progress and even more keen to see if he makes the grade, seems to have worked his butt off to get here, hoping he has more upside in him.
With every further training session Tyan has he looks better than the last, obviously the Club were very keen to draft him and the more he trains the happier I am with this choice.I think a lot of it gets back to his size and level of fitness which Cityslick thinks it makes him look like a top ten pick or a lad who has been in the system for a few years and we know this is not so.

He is the 1 I want see most in practice or pre season matches as that will really tell us where he standing ATM but the early signs look outstanding and I know he was working with his boxing trainer right through the holidays so his work ethic is right up there with Pendles and Naicos.

Re Prindable, I’m easily convinced by the accounts I read on here - but does anyone with a contact or ‘source’ at the club know what the coaches think about this kid?

Have to wait until they get Asked about him I guess

Hopefully fewer Jakob Ryan’s in the post Hine era
