What a great footballer
290 games, about 270 good ones
Imo the third best Crow ever
really good year again, second half outstanding
Yet again he stood up yesterday in a big game with key goals when we needed them
I'd love to see him win our B&F this year. He'll go close (maybe second or third behind Bock/Thommo)

No All Australians (Adam Mcphee, Andrew Kellaway????) no B&Fs but a star

agreed; never recognised for his efforts with awards or anything like that, but one of the best players the Crows have ever had...i wouldn't say 3rd best though...there's always Modra, Jarman, Ricciuto and McLeod, but definitely up there.

Hope hes still around next season.

300 games for a club stalwart.

never recognised like the behind the scenes workers at the footy club

About 6 years ago I was a massive fan and saying the same things. About 4 years ago I saw something else. He runs forward of the packs to pick up his kicks and never mans up.
When he is in the midfield his bloke destroys us consistently. I hate to say it, but this sort of thing seemed to flourish under Ayers as they all did it (Roo, Goodwin Macca etc...)

Still I will say he is a very good player and has been very important to our club. FWIW he is, depsite my criticism, also underated by other clubs.

Unappreciated by whom? Not me.

His first 30 to 50 games were a bit up and down but after that he has been Mr Consistency.

No way should be asked to retire, one more year left in zooma

No All Australians

This bit puzzles me. He should have 2-3 AA jumpers, no doubt. I dont think he is underated here in SA though, only by the Vics. Everyone starts from behind even the mildly talented Victorians in the eyes of the very bias AA panel.

Just wish he'd stop bringing Little Leyton to our changerooms.

Imo the third best Crow ever

From an outsiders point of view, I'd rank them --

1/- McLeod
2/- Ricciuto
3/- Modra
4/- D. Jarman
5/- B. Hart
6/- Rehn
7/- Edwards
8/- McGuinness
9/- Smart
10/- Bickley

I think a lot would agree. Mcleod, Roo 1-2. Depends on longevity, consistency (Hart, Edwards) vs sheer brilliance/impact (Rehn, Modra, Jarman) for 3-7

Modra's 1993 was the best individual year by a Crow but there weren't enough good years to rank him that high for mine

Me too, I'm guessing Bock will take the cake this year but he has been down the past few games while Edwards has been good. Hopefully he'll come through and nab it for the first time.

Edwards has won the Merv Agars medal this year in the Advertiser and was the members MVP a few years ago.

He is not underrated any more, simple fact is there are so many premium midfeilders in the comp, All Australian is very hard to get. As far as Club B and F's go, he is unfortunate to play with so many champions, unlike Scott West for example or Robert Harvey who had it all their own way for years.

He is a smokey for our B and F this year and I hope he wins it even though I think Thompson, Bock and even Doughty have had better years.

Can't believe he's never nabbed a B&F, could very well have the most votes all up of any Crow.

I believe he came 3rd in the Brownlow, the year Judd won it...or Cousins? Around that tiume he was right up there, very close, mite not have been 3rd, but very high up.

HAs been members MVP 3 times since 2001. Always gets my vote. When you have stand outs like Roo and Bungee and Goody, its hard for a bloke like him who works hard without all the recognition of the other blokes. Hope he plays on next year, will undoubtedly get to 300 if he does, because I cannot remember the last time he missed a game! :thumbsu:

like all underrated things, they end up overrated.

3rd best crow ever? c'mon that's just silly.

maybe equal with Hart but remember Jarman/Rehn/Modra all played 150 games or less for Adelaide. Longevity/consistency counts when rating players you know

I am not sure if longevity plays a HUGE role. It plays a role no doubt but pund for pound, Rehn, Modra, Jarman et al were more talented than Tyson. They were genuine match winners. Modra was an excitement machine that was damaging. 118 games and 440 goals for the club. No one comes close to matching that scoring output.

Rehn, if not for knee injuries would have be know as andoubtedly best modern day ruckman. He was just a freak with a courage and a heart of a phar lap!

Edwards has been a great servant to the footy club and yes its tragic that he has never won a B&F or AA selection but this club has seen better players than him. He would probably be top 10.

As for this year, I agree with Jars458, Bock, Thompson and even Doughty have had better year. Tyson started off slowly but lately he has been VERY VERY good.

I was worried about him in the first few rounds of this year, he would run in circles once he got it and got caught holding it a lot, he looked as if age had really caught up with him but to his credit he worked his way through it. The only thing you can say now is that he has lost about 5m on his kicks, 3-4 years ago he would have made the distance on that set shot after the siren the other night.

He's about to become our 4th 300 gamer (he'll play on), there are what 60 of them in the history of the game, no hacks have made that list, he stands in the top 5 of our club for that alone, above Rehn, above Modra. I think most Victorians will be surprised when he makes 300 and then start to appreciate how good he actually is.

I probably should have included Goodwin, my mistake

Toughest, durable, most consistent player we've had (Ben Hart-except for his last year, and Rocket Maynard right up there). Often our best player in tough or losing games. Doesn't speak unless he's got something to contribute, doesn't sook or look for recognition, a real "players player". Always respected him and realised he is one of the corner stones of the club. Should go on next year and get 300- look for VB or Vince to inherit his mantle after that.
